Reeled in: A DNR rule against carrying guns while fishing has been repealed Legislation

Indiana DNR used to have a rule that you couldn't carry a pistol during archery deer season. They also had a rule that any legal weapon had to be unloaded if in the field before or after shooting hours. They got both of those shoved up their ass.

The vote to repeal the firearm ban for anglers was 8-2, with state Sen. Kelda Roys, D-Madison, and Sen. Chris Larson, D-Milwaukee, casting the lone no votes.
During the committee’s public hearing, Roys referenced Monday’s school shooting at Madison’s Abundant Life Christian School, which left two students and one teacher dead.
"I think there are still good reasons why we should not have more guns in more places, especially given recent events in my district,” Roys said, apparently confusing schools of fish with educational facilities.

Yup, keeping lone fisherman in remote areas unarmed is what's going to save the children

Good. I've done a ton of bear hunting and the only times I've been charged have been while fishing

Game Wardens seem to be pretty based agencies so I would think the lack of writing citations is that no one really believed in it and therefore didn't enforce it

Wardens in wisconsin are generally reasonable people, yes. The actual WDNR management however, seems to be just another government agency lacking real oversight from our elected officials.

They were gonna lose in court anyways and they knew it. A lawsuit was already underway. This rule was nakedly unconstitutional.

One clarification on the title. This was a wisconsin fishing regulation, but the rule didn't specify that it only applied while fishing. The actual text of the law prohibited carry anywhere near water if the firearm could be used to take fish, which frankly could be any firearm for any purpose (such as a shotgun for duck hunting). It was very clearly bad rewriting of a regulation and needed to be fixed. The fact this made it past a simple request to ammend the law was ridiculous on the part of the Wisconsin DNR.

It's crazy how often this happens.
Washington has a law like this. When they combined the old separate Fishing and Hunting departmental regulations into a single state law, they kept a rule that "you can't have a loaded rifle or shotgun in your car" which used to only be a hunting/fishing regulation and applied it to the entire state at all times. So something that was intended to mitigate poaching and hunting from vehicles means that you could catch a misdemeanor if you drive your home defense rifle to the range in a case and forget to unload it beforehand.
It also has a clause:
(5) For purposes of subsection (1) of this section, a rifle or shotgun shall not be considered loaded if the detachable clip or magazine is not inserted in or attached to the rifle or shotgun.
that I'm pretty certain means that it's not technically "loaded" for the purposes of this law if there is a round in the chamber as long as you remove the magazine. So it doesn't even really prevent an ND from the rifle getting bounced around in the trunk.

wow. I (alabama) am trying to think back and remember a single time I have ever been fishing that there was not at least one forearm on the boat...

Not to lessen the ruling, but this only applies to Wisconsin.
