The didn’t want my water bottle mead in r/mead so I’m here to show my creation Experiment
This is my water bottle mead that I started making yesterday in my garage
Before I hear about ventilation I got some holes in the cap and it’s worked out fine so far I was able to leave it over night and it still had no bottle pressure
The recipe so far was (and there’s no exact measurements) 1/3 of the bottle honey 1/3 of the bottle cranberry and the rest water and 1 packet bread yeast
Also instead of taking a pic from this morning I used the original one I took on the mead Reddit page lol and I’m also lazy
My idea for how long to keep it in there was ranging from 8 days and today would be 2/8 and I’m excited to see my finished product

If it can get me drunk it’s good enough for me

Nobody was being rude to you. They just advised an airlock so you could have better tasting stuff.

Didn’t say they were rude just not as welcoming lol

The water bottle stuff is a really good way
to experiment and get better. Want to know how apple juice and earl gray taste mixed together? Don’t want to blow a bunch of money on an experimental combination? Keep doing the water bottle stuff. Also, apple juice and Earl Gray is a terrible combination.

An airlock doesn't improve taste It lowers the probability of contamination which could ruin it

Contaminated mead with mold is going to taste bad. An airlock would prevent contamination as you said, which also improves the flavor of the mead.

Don't drink anything that has had mold, that's very very dangerous, I meant that bacteria and other yeasts can get in and make it taste shit, or if mold gets in dangerous to drink

Exactly. So why did you take issue with my saying that an airlock would provide a tastier mead? Of course it keeps out mold, but I didn’t want to spend five or six paragraphs explaining the benefits of an airlock when they probably already knew what it was.

Because the airlock doesn't make it tastier, just lowers the risk of anything ruining it, it will be equally as tasty with or without it if nothing gets in

You drink some mead with mold floating over the top of it and tell me it tastes just as good.

I'm actually pretty active on both subreddits. And I like both, but they are definitely very different

r/mead is just a bunch of stuck up asshats. Every time I've had an interaction with someone there they have been a cunt.
Their wiki is useful. But I'd avoid conversing with them and just observe for ideas and info at most.

Hey man, it's not your fault they don't understand us, you keep on crafting that taboo ragu brother

Just make sure to ventilate the garage. 2 people died in Poland of co2 poisoning while making mash for hooch in their garage. The bottle exploding isn’t as big of a worry as your lungs potentially failing

I like the mead sub; they've helped me out, but they can be no fun sometimes.
