Because single payer politicians tend to support other policies unpopular with centrists and conservatives

Not only that, single payer politicians become associated with policies unpopular with centrists and conservatives, regardless of their actual positions on the issues, because the media ecosystem reinforces these beliefs.

So, it isn't just "I like single payer, but dislike AOCs position on the environment (or whatever), it is also "I like single payer, but don't like that AOC wants single-payer so that she can prioritize giving sex change operations to criminal immigrants"

I troll right wingers

I've heard this exact argument so many damn times. That exact sentence of "but I don't want tran's right, so I hate all leftist ideas".

Before Donald made this election about tran's rights, I would hear the same thing about immigrants getting free healthcare, and gays being allowed to be out of the closet.

If you tell people that your current non-government insurance will be canceled and you will be forced into a government run program, single payer is already really unpopular. And that's not even an unfair description, thats what would happen.

Obama was at some of his least popular in 2014 when tons of junk plans were cancelled for not meeting ACA standards to be insurance. Millions of people were paying for insurance that wouldn't cover almost anything, and yet when it was cancelled they were pissed off.

Just like people hate congress but like their congressperson, people might not like health insurance companies but they like the plan they have. Less than 20% of people with private insurance do not like their insurance plan.

Less than 20% of people with private insurance do not like their insurance plan.

Those ratings are heavily correlated to how healthy the person is. Yes, people that don't use insurance outside of their primary care, and have their job paying a sizable percentage of premiums are happy with it. Until they aren't.

Just under 20% of people in any given population have atleast one major health issue.
