  1. Comment a cozy game

We'll be picking reasonably affordable cozy Steam PC games based on replies to this thread and a few like it. We need as many suggestions as possible so we might post a few times.

[Meta] How to avoid having your posts removed.

A number of people have inquired about why certain posts have been removed, so I thought I would write this up as a quick reference (with a bit more description) about our forum rules and how to avoid breaking them.

Rule #1 - Your game must be playable for free

  • There must be some way at the time of your posting to play your game for free.
    • Acceptable options are:
      • A totally free game (obvious)
      • A paid game with a totally free demo
      • A paid game where you will give out keys
      • A paid game where you will allow free access to a beta or alpha
    • If your game meets any of these qualifications then it is acceptable under rule #1, otherwise it is not acceptable and will be removed. ** For this rule I personally will send a chat to anyone I have doubts about, failure to respond or change the post to reflect a free game will be grounds for removal **

Rule #2 - Avoid posting low effort submissions

  • Games should have a degree of effort put in to making them, clones, reskins, stolen ips and build box apps are examples of games that are considered low effort. Additionally when posting about your game you NEED to post some information telling players what it is about.
    • Acceptable posts will include
      • A unique interesting game
      • A short paragraph or two about what the game is about
    • If your game meets these qualifications it is acceptable under rule #2, otherwise it is not acceptable and will be removed. ** For this rule I personally will send a chat to anyone I have doubts about, failure to respond or change the post will be grounds for removal **

Rule #3 - You must be part of the game

  • You must be part of the game design team in order to post here. Part of the charm of PlayMyGame is interacting with the developers (This is not to say you have to make the game entirely by yourself, you could have done music, or art, or any other part of the game and still have the qualifications to post here)
    • If you meet these qualifications your post is acceptable under rule #3, otherwise it is not acceptable and will be removed.

Rule #4 - Please flair your posts

  • When posting make sure to add flair to your posts to designate the platform. You first have to submit the post and then add flair to it afterwards.
    • Acceptable posts will have appropriate platform flair and also NSFW flair if applicable
    • If your post has the appropriate flair it is acceptable under rule #4, otherwise it is not acceptable and will be removed.

Rule#5 - Do not post more than once a month

  • Do not post more than once a month. This resets on the calendar month not 30 days since your post.
    • A poster posting during one month should not post again during that month. You can of course still reply and interact with other people's posts.

[Meta] We have Officially hit 100k Members! The game jam is on... but delayed due to holiday season.

Yes it is true we have officially hit 100k Members, as of this post 100199 Members. So our 100k game jam is on. However it has been discussed that the holiday season may prove difficult to get as much participation as we are hoping for so to that effect we are going to delay the jam start until Monday Jan 6th.

I will release full details about the jam on the 6th (Don't start designing because there will be curveballs). I hope to see a lot of participation, I am going to try and make videos of all the games I play.

Any questions feel free to reach out to any of the Mods or just post here.

[Meta] The Game Jam is ON!

Game Jam Theme: "100 Seconds to Chaos"

Description: Players have 100 seconds to complete a challenge, facing increasing intensity and chaotic gameplay as the timer counts down.

The Jam is on, from today anyone interested will have one week to finish their game. After that there will be a two week judging period. First place will receive 100$, Second will receive 50$, and Third will receive 25$ via Zelle or PayPal (whichever your preference is).

Time Frame

  • Game design 1/6/25 - 1/13/25
  • Judging 1/14/25 - 1/28/25

Judging Criteria

The following criteria will be judged by a committee. Each category offers a score range from 0 to 5 points (except Juiciness, which offers up to 3 points).

Creativity (0–5 Points)

  • Definition: The originality of the game's concept, mechanics, and overall design. Does the game present fresh ideas or combine familiar concepts in unexpected ways?
  • Scoring Guide:
    • 0 Points: Entirely unoriginal or copied with no unique elements.
    • 1 Point: Slight creative elements but still too close to a clone.
    • 2 Points: Some creative potential, but lacks depth in execution.
    • 3 Points: Moderately creative, with interesting ideas.
    • 4 Points: Strong creativity with unique mechanics or design choices.
    • 5 Points: Highly innovative with fresh concepts or storytelling.

Fun Factor (0–5 Points)

  • Definition: How enjoyable the game is to play. Does the game engage the player and keep their interest? Are the mechanics smooth and satisfying?
  • Scoring Guide:
    • 0 Points: Unplayable or frustrating.
    • 1 Point: Playable but lacks engagement or reward.
    • 2 Points: Some fun moments, but pacing or controls need improvement.
    • 3 Points: Enjoyable but has rough edges.
    • 4 Points: Consistently fun, minor improvements needed.
    • 5 Points: Highly engaging and immersive throughout.

Theme Usage (0–5 Points)

  • Definition: How well the game incorporates and interprets the jam's chosen theme. Is the theme central to the gameplay and narrative?
  • Scoring Guide:
    • 0 Points: No incorporation of the theme.
    • 1 Point: Theme is loosely present but minimal.
    • 2 Points: Theme is present but secondary.
    • 3 Points: Theme is well-integrated but could be more prominent.
    • 4 Points: Theme plays a central role in the game.
    • 5 Points: The theme is deeply and creatively woven into the game.

Polish (0–5 Points)

  • Definition: The technical quality of the game, including visuals, sound, and smoothness of gameplay. Is the game bug-free and well-executed?
  • Scoring Guide:
    • 0 Points: Unplayable due to major bugs or technical issues.
    • 1 Point: Many noticeable bugs or poor design choices.
    • 2 Points: Playable but with significant issues.
    • 3 Points: Runs smoothly with minor bugs or inconsistencies.
    • 4 Points: Well-polished with few technical issues.
    • 5 Points: Highly polished with smooth performance and professional quality.

Juiciness (0–3 Points)

  • Definition: The artistic and sensual quality of the game, including visuals, sound, animations, particles, and general appeal of the game.
  • Scoring Guide:
    • 0 Points: Game lacks basic graphical assets, music, or SFX.
    • 1 Point: Game is artistically complete but nothing stands out.
    • 2 Points: Game has a unique art style, captivating soundtrack, or stands out in quality.
    • 3 Points: Game creates unforgettable experiences in an artistic sense, synergizing media like music, visuals, animations, or other elements.

Community Engagement Bonus

  • An additional 3-point bonus will be awarded for appropriate community engagement. This includes:
    • Posting the game on the subreddit with a request for feedback.
    • Actively responding to feedback and showing a willingness to improve the game.

Curveballs

You must choose at least one to incorporate into your game design (you may choose all four if desired):

  1. "Limited Visibility": Start with normal visibility but reduce it by 10% every 10 seconds. By the end, players may have only a small circle of light around them, forcing reliance on memory and skill.
  2. "One Life Only": Players must complete the 100-second challenge with only one life. This curveball adds high-stakes tension, encouraging players to think carefully and make every move count.
  3. "Chaos Multiplier": Every 20 seconds, the game’s speed doubles (or halves), increasing or reducing movement, attack, and animation speeds. This makes the last few seconds increasingly intense and chaotic.
  4. "Mime": No text allowed: Your game must communicate instructions, objectives, and mechanics to players without using any text. This requires creative use of visuals, sounds, and context to guide players through the chaos.

Entries can be posted to https://itch.io/ and then linked to this sub with the 100k Game Jam post flair. All sub rules should be followed when posting your submission.

Thank you all and hope to see greatness.

[Meta] How to avoid having your posts removed Version #2

A number of people have inquired about why certain posts have been removed, so I thought I would write this up as a quick reference (with a bit more description) about our forum rules and how to avoid breaking them.

** Tip **

Reddit only allows you to post one type of post, in order to comply with the rules on PMG you will probably need to post and then add a comment to include the rest of the requirements.

    • An exception to this rule is on Tuesdays where we allow paid games to be posted with [TT] in the title or the Trailer Tuesday flair used.

Rule #2 Game Description Required

  • Your post MUST include a written description of your game. Let people know what they are looking at in writing.
    • If your post has a written description then it is acceptable under rule #2, otherwise it is not acceptable and will be removed.

Rule #5 - Do not post more than once a month

  • Do not post more than once a month. This resets on the calendar month not 30 days since your post.
    • A poster posting during one month should not post again during that month. You can of course still reply and interact with other people's posts.

Rule #6 - NDA Posts are not allowed

  • If playing your game requires a Non Disclosure Agreement then it is not allowed to be posted on PlayMyGame
    • All posts that require an NDA will be removed.

Rule #7 - You must provide a direct link

  • You must provide a direct link to your game. For clarification a direct link is a link that takes you directly to the place where the game can be downloaded.
    • If your post has a direct link it is acceptable under rule #7, otherwise it is not acceptable and will be removed

Rule #8 - Avoid posting low effort submissions

  • Games should have a degree of effort put in to making them, clones, reskins, stolen ips and build box apps are examples of games that are considered low effort. Additionally when posting about your game you NEED to post some information telling players what it is about.

[Meta] Connecting game developers and streamers

We've been working on a Discord in which game developers and streamers can connect in a live event in which streamers can play your games.

They will also be sharing what they need from you as game developers to stream your game.

Rather than the passive services out there that throw a request out to the void, this Discord is all about connecting game developers and streamers in live events where both can talk to each other.

As you know, we've already done this once, passively, and we thought we would this time take things on much more actively and empower people to build genuine relationships with streamers that will help their games succeed.

If you'd like to support this idea, the new PMG Discord will be dedicated to just that.

https://discord.gg/dNMqCPrsgj

Happy 100,000 PMG!
