Question/Advice What are these tools for? found on swiss army knife

Post image

so I didn't notice there were tools on this side of my pocket knife, any idea what these two are for?

the pointy one is definitely some type of knife, but for what purpose? why does it have a hole in it?

can't even begin to guess on the hook.

Question/Advice Should I get the SOG PowerPint?

Post image

Pic for attention, not my own. My buddy has one of these and I was messing around with it and really liked the compact size. I’m thinking about getting one but had a couple of questions:

  1. I see a lot of you have the Stonewash version is there a reason other than preference? Does the black wear poorly?

  2. Does it come with a removable bit to put in the top? If not, what size bit should I get for everyday use? How do you store your bit(s)?

  3. What mod would you do to it right out of the box? Has a certain mod been your favorite and made this that much better?

Thanks in advance for the help. This is a pretty cool Subreddit. I have a Leatherman Sidekick that I like but I found I’m leaning toward something smaller and more compact so my pockets aren’t so bogged down between my knife, flashlight, extra mag and multitool.

Did all kinds of things (with wood and animal flesh mostly) and over time it started to get harder and harder to open and today i cut my finger trying to open it up. I'd appreciate a lot if anyone can fill me up about how to clean it properly.

Question/Advice Got a strange question...

So while I was pouring through different multi tools up until today I noticed that they all have bottle openers on them? Is this just to throw in an extra feature? I'm a girl and I don't need a bottle opener for my beer and i'd probably laugh to see a guy whip out a multi tool just to open one.

Question/Advice Which Leatherman should I try next

I have a PST and a Blast, and I really love the compact size and form factor in both. Which LM should I look at next? Tools don't matter, just things like optimizing size for plier strength for example. But prefer a full-size tool as far as the category goes. Pricing, prefer not to go over $100, and some slight preference for older models. Thanks 👍

Question/Advice Is this normal?

I just got my SOG powerpint multitool from the mail. Upon opening I noticed this black liquid smudged all around the tool. It's kinda slippery so I guess it's oil? But I wonder if this is normal or defective. My first time owning one btw.

Question/Advice Is this Mossy Oak a Chinese clone of something? It's by far my favorite tool set and form factor of any multi-tool that I have but I'd love to see something like it with a more premium feel.

Question/Advice Leatherman promised a replacement model for Squirt

I remember reading here ages ago that Leatherman were lining up a squirt replacement (presumably that could be more easily repaired). Has anyone heard any more about this? Does the forum have any contacts at Leatherman who might be able to tell us anything?

Question/Advice Victorinox Swiss Tool MX vs Swiss Tool Spirit MX

Hey there!

I've been wanting to get a Victorinox Swiss Tool for a long time now, and I'm stuck between these two models. So I was hoping that you guys could help.

I would like to get the Spirit MX, but I don't like how the blade is much smaller than the other Swiss Tool models, and I don't like the style of scissors the Spirit MX uses; I have loved the scissor design on my previous SAKs, and I feel like these scissors are a complete downgrade.

On the other hand, the Swiss Tool MX is bigger (the pliers are comically fat) and heavier, and maybe a little uglier too (at least in my opinion), but I prefer the design of its tools more.

I guess it comes down to what I value more: dimensions and weight, or tool design?

But what do you think? Thanks for your help!

Question/Advice Other "Out the Front" plier multitools like Gerber?

I've had a blunt nose MP600 for over a decade now, and it's served me well, but I'm looking to upgrade.

The center-drive is an obvious choice, but I want to explore other options.

Are there any other multitool manufacturers making "out the front" style pliers like the Gerber tools have? This is a must-have feature for me and I've been unable to find any other manufacturers using this style.

Question/Advice ROXON and GOAT products long-term/heavy duty reviews?

Hi all,

I'm looking to get a new multitool. I owned a Leatherman Core which I bought in 2005 or 2006, and then a Victorinox Spirit (first gen, pre-scissors w/ the bread knife) which is now nearing the end of its life. The new "hot swap" modular tools that have come out recently are very interesting. Unfortunately I've been unable to find any reviews of the ROXON and GOAT multitools that go further than "Here are the tools". I keep my tools a very long time, and I'm hesitant to go in on a new platform that I might just have to abandon after a year because of faulty or defective design. These new designs seem genius, but of course the mechanism for swapping/locking tools could be a point of weakness which is a concern.

Does anyone here have long term (or heavy use) experience with the ROXON or GOAT multitools? I use my multitools every day at work, and often in the field and outdoors. I never misuse or abuse tools, but if I can't be convinced that these can be more than "pocket princesses", then I'll probably just get a new model Victorinox Spirit and stay with what I know.

Thanks!

Looking into buying one for myself but I'm wondering how it holds up to use over time since I've heard anything from "they're indestructible" to "tin can is more useful." If you've got one and use it regularly, how does it hold up over all?

Question/Advice Flex Companion Scale Tool Mod?

I got my Roxon Flex Companion and found that the included tool holder with the tweezers, pen, and needle takes up two whole slots in the tool. Since this tool is supposed to go up against the SAK which includes those tools as freebies in the scales, I'm surprised that Roxon didn't implement those tools in a better way. Does anyone know if there is a scale tool mods coming or if anyone has figured out how to modify the existing scales to hold at least the pen and tweezers?
