I loved my Dime, but as pliers they're weak. I've broken a couple of them by using them. I found the SOG PowerPint Mini to be an excellent replacement. It's a not bigger, but still small enough to poop in my pocket every day.

You Poop in your pocket everyday. 😆 🤣 😂 J/K Sorry, I had to. I have the Dime and I never carried it because I don't want to break it. I can feel give in the handles and I probably came close to breaking something, the 1st time I used them. The Powerpint is good for regular EDC, but since I deal with construction screws and I need bigger tools than the Powerpint has, I switched from the Powerpint to my Leatherman Knifeless Rebar. I just put it in my coin/5th pocket. The Powerpint does have some amazing pliers, and I loved the bit holder it has.

Great catch. I though I proofread it... 😝. I don't use the bit holder much, but it is useful. I'll check out the Rebar.

The Rebar doesn't have a pocket clip though. Amazing toolset and smaller than the Wave, but no pocket clip. It doesn't bother me but if you want a pocket clip and don't mind slipjoints that are strong, the Bond is amazing for it's price, but you do have to buy the pocket clip separately.

Depends if they are going to honor their limited warranty.
This is pretty common for dime. If it is replaced, you will experience the same thing if you use the pliers as pliers. Better to take it apart and salvage the tools and forget about the pliers. The design is just flawed.

You could get these replaced for free if you bought them 24 years, 11 months, and 29 days ago.

Wow, that’s pretty dramatic. May I ask how that broke? I imagine some strong forces were applied…or it was a bad batch of Dimes? I would never expect to see this unless the metal was bad.

it broke when I tried to screw in a screw eye. didn't tale a whole lot of force to break sadly

This is why you just buy 3 of them. I bought 3 Nextool mini sailors they are great. Who the hell wants to deal with doing a warranty claim? Literally no one. Throw it away

Gerbers warranty service is pretty effortless. I get having a backup but why throw away $20 when a free one will show up in the mail a few days later?

Bro you think I want to go to the post office and wait in a 20 person line? Hell no, like everyone I hate the post office!
My solution was to purchase 5 nextools
Tools are meant to be used to get shit done they aren’t accessories

First thing Gerber will ask ... What did you use them for.
If they suspect you abused them, and attempted something too big or not suitable for small pliers, they may reject the claim.
So take photos of the broken area, as clear as you can, as it may show metal fatigue, or a casting fault.
I'd go direct to executive complaints , as I often find first level CSAs dont have the ability to think away from the computer prompts. ... I was a CSA for almost a decade, and I know who I worked with! ... Exec team seem on the whole to be a better group of people???
Best of luck.
Praise them up, and return to how shocked you were and how you're feeling let down but this happening. Total shock such a great company had this happen. Etc etc etc.
Also try and use any sound bites against them (such as , the best by far or whatever).
Good luck.

Crazy suggestion just buy a new one… Even crazier suggestion if you need a small keychain sized multitool get the Nextool mini sailor, Or multiple of them. They are built much better then the Dime and has better toolset in my opinion…

You should call up Gerber, I'm pretty sure they have a lifetime warranty like Leatherman.

Maybe buy something of quality? Gerber is getting what you pay for. How cheap are you for a cheap warranty of cheap materials?

Gerber’s warranty is very good, but it can be a slow process. Rest assured you will receive another excellent bottle opener with pliers you should never try to actually use within a few months.
