This is going to be one of the biggest flops of 2025 and honestly I’m looking forward to the content roasting it
84
u/Hygochi 1d ago
Maybe in a perfect world the constant underperforming live actions would stop them from pillaging their nostalgia reputation. Yet now they're trying to pillage Moana, a series from 2016
28
u/AKSpartan70 1d ago
Speak No Evil isn’t even 5 years old and got an American “remake” that genuinely doesn’t even understand what makes the original so good
The constant demand for content was never going to be a good thing. It’s killing so many IPs and fandoms
12
u/LordManders 1d ago
I didn't hate the Speak No Evil remake. I thought MacAvoy acted his tits off in that.
2
u/Rough_World_7063 22h ago
That’s not a new thing. The Ring, The Grudge, The uninvited, Shutter etc all had American remakes within a few years of the originals
2
u/CinemaDork 11h ago
Yeah, there's a pretty big difference between Disney making more Moana movies and someone remaking a foreign film for American audiences.
1
u/genuinely_insincere 1d ago
I think it's weird how you are so concerned about things being quality, but then you make such an inane, parroted, empty statement about "internet bad."
6
u/fang_xianfu 1d ago
I was going to make a comment about how they will adapt animated properties into live-action but not the other way round, and then I realised that a modern CGI-filled movie a la Marvel is the animated version.
12
u/30fps_is_cinematic 1d ago
No original ideas - too risky. Live actions, sequels and superhero slop is all you’ll get and you’ll be happy with it
4
u/polchickenpotpie 1d ago
Maybe if people actually went to watch the original ideas we'd get more

These movies don’t flop, they make Disney a lot of money. I mean they totally suck, but there’s a reason why they keep on making them.
It’s definitely a case of for terrible or worse for us who are on a sub reddit for movies but for Disney? It’s a case of for better or money
That last paragraph made a lot of sense in my head…
5
u/Hygochi 1d ago
I used "underperforming" and not "flop" very intentionally.
The LA movies are definitely underperforming compared to when they first started with them and have downright bombs like Mulan (granted COVID) and underperformers like Mufasa and The Little Mermaid. These movies don't just cost money they use Disney's reputation which as of late is floundering (pun intended)

u/Stop_Sign 1d ago
They're pillaging freakin Lilo and Stitch for a live action. Nostalgia is all they have
19
u/KingCarbon1807 1d ago
I got dragged to mufasa and they'll be hard pressed to excrete a more noxious pile of dung. But casting gadot is certainly a step in the right direction.
7
u/AKSpartan70 1d ago
Funny enough Gadot isn’t even their biggest problem in terms of casting

u/hlessi_newt 1d ago

MMW, it’s going to get roasted here in Reddit and online…and yet it’s still going to make a billion dollars. Because 98% of this movie’s target audience is not on Reddit or Letterboxd and DNGAF what the Rotten Tomatoes score is.
6
u/AKSpartan70 1d ago
Members of that target audience have already outspokenly been upset about various actions/statements of the stars of the movie
If this movie makes a billion dollars, I will Venmo you $500 - set a remindme or whatever. It won’t happen.
3
u/ZeppyWeppyBoi 1d ago
Eh, maybe it will flop. Who knows. I figured the Lion King remake with its uncanny valley lion faces would bomb as well. It made $1.6 billion.
But I think the real target audience is kids, so if it hits the right notes to captivate 8-10 year olds, I think it will do just fine regardless of the actors.
2
u/AKSpartan70 1d ago
Do you have a source for that $1.6 billion figure? Because I’m not finding anything close to that for that movie, despite it still leading during the holidays.
→ More replies1
u/WakeNikis 1d ago
Does it need to make 1 billion to be financially successful?
Like, are you certain it will flop, or just certain it won’t be an absolutely massive smash hit?
There’s a big difference there

1
u/urkermannenkoor 1d ago

No? That's definitely not the target audience.
I do expect it will do badly, but not because of the silly pearl clutching over some unremarkable interviews.
2
u/AKSpartan70 1d ago
You don’t think the women that have talked about how Zegler doesn’t even seem to respect the IP are part of the “target audience”? This movie is playing on nostalgia. It’s hoping to milk previous generations love for this classic IP and bring it to new audiences. And the older generations have already voiced displeasure with this cast and the style of this “remake”

Idk why everyone always makes a big deal about this line. It’s barely 0.5 seconds of bad delivery.
20
u/pooooolooop 1d ago
It’s 0.5 seconds of excruciatingly obvious bad acting
2
u/Bennington_Hahn 1d ago
Until the internet collectively turned on Gal I never noticed it. Marion Coltiard’s (a great actress) death scene in Dark Knight rises was far worse than anything Gal has done (which is mid at best)
14
u/Longjumping-Buy-4736 1d ago
Gal Gadot wishes she was half has as good an actress as Marion Cotillard. Cotillard was poorly directed in one scene in TDKR, the setup of that death scene being extremely awkward (she was heavily pregnant pretending to be stuck in a car crash) and the dialogue absolutely cringe. The whole final act of that movie was straight up, bad. She was mortified when she realised this was the cut Nolan kept.
Not that Gal Gadot ever got to work with good writing, but she has proven to be a terrible actress constantly, yet she gets major roles for some reason. There is no single scene of hers that come close to what Marion Cotillard did in La Vie en Rose or Two Days One Night.
→ More replies4
u/MightyMightyMag 1d ago
Marion puts almost every American actress I can think of to shame.
I don’t blame her for any of that movie. It was ill conceived and ill executed. I’m sure she had 10 takes that were better than that.
6
2
u/SwordfishNo7670 1d ago
I disagree with your original point. I think if we can praise a single delivery (which obviously everyone does) than we can criticize a single line delivery as well. But yeah that death scene made my entire midnight showing burst into laughter… the first time I saw it I thought she was fucking with Bruce or something like as a prank lmao
1
u/genuinely_insincere 1d ago
I think she just doesn't put any effort in. Acting does require people to emote properly, and she just doesn't care enough.

u/goteamventure42 1d ago

It represents the DCEU - the idea that the line was setup like that by the writers, she delivered it and they kept it in; even had a zoom-in like they were proud of it.

Gal Gadot can act. She just doesn’t have a wide acting range.
1
u/Savitar2606 22h ago
That's been my assessment of her for a long time. She has a very narrow range and you can be a successful actor without range.
You just have to be really good at that specific role. Nathan Lane does that, Samuel L. Jackson does it and John Malkovich sure as hell does it.
Gal's best is adequate and she was that in BvS, Wonder Woman and throughout most of both versions of Justice League. I'd even say that she does her best in WW84 but is let down by the story.

Because she's Israeli.
There's plenty of other shit actors and actresses (of which Gal Gadot is a shit actress) that we can make fun of; but only she gets this level of consistent hate.
