I feel like this movie has been coming out for 5 years.

145

u/Representative_Dark5 1d ago

Reminds of the wait for Duke Nukem Forever.

48

u/Juantsu2000 1d ago

And we all know how that turned out

16

u/Mammoth-Record-7786 1d ago

It wasn’t that bad, people just jumped on the hate wagon.

31

u/ososalsosal 1d ago

The only novel thing in that game was the ability to grab shit out of a toilet and throw it at enemies

20

u/Mammoth-Record-7786 1d ago

Thanks, now I gotta dig out my PS3 and have fun with that again.

4

u/AXEMANaustin 1d ago

And also the whiteboard at the start.

13

u/Boo-galoo19 1d ago

Nah it was absolutely that bad and I grew up with and loved duke nukem. The dialogue was creepy even for duke and those weird boob things you could slap were strange too

2

u/ExplodingPoptarts 1d ago

mhm, plus the aliens SA'ing mary kate and ashly olsen to death, and Duke just makes the grossest joke in the game, and doesn't even try to save them.

2

u/jkifexxx7 21h ago

Oh hell yeah Stone Cold voice

3

u/ExplodingPoptarts 1d ago

Have you played it? It was a nightmare. It's probably Gearbox's worst game, and that's saying something because they've made a lot of bad games!

1

u/Mammoth-Record-7786 17h ago

I do still have it and have played it. I don’t think it’s as bad as any of the 3D Sonic games.

u/Azidamadjida 1d ago

There’s been a couple of movies like that that I’ve noticed over the last couple of years - seem to get stuck in development hell, attract a lot of criticism and internet jokes, and find out after a certain point that I thought it was still coming out only to find out that it already was released, flopped, was pulled, and is getting quietly shoved into a streaming service to die.

Here’s hoping that happens here and they’ll finally hit a point where those live action remakes are profitable any more and they’ll finally, finally stop

20

u/Trent1373 1d ago

Almost. When you don’t care, time flies.

5

u/Felaguin 1d ago

Yes but that’s not Gadot’s fault. She’s not the one that decided to replace dwarves with “magical creatures” then switched back to CGI dwarves to cover over those magical creatures after getting lambasted in the press. She’s not the one who shot her mouth off repeatedly.

3

u/Low-Hovercraft-8791 1d ago

And now it's kind of a weird time to release a Gen Z / Alpha movie starring a former IDF soldier.

2

u/justsayfaux 1d ago

Reading this made me laugh because this is honestly the first I'm hearing of it featuring Gal Gadot. There was so much 'political' conversation over Wicked and the casting of a half-Cuban Rachel Zegler that I forgot this was even a real movie that was happening.

1

u/SnooChipmunks5617 1d ago

We’ll get Half-life 3 first.

1

u/Jambo11 1d ago

It really does, doesn't it?

1

u/Extension_Duty_1295 1d ago

Honestly this and Karven..... Least one finally came out.

This is going to be one of the biggest flops of 2025 and honestly I’m looking forward to the content roasting it

84

u/Hygochi 1d ago

Maybe in a perfect world the constant underperforming live actions would stop them from pillaging their nostalgia reputation. Yet now they're trying to pillage Moana, a series from 2016

28

u/AKSpartan70 1d ago

Speak No Evil isn’t even 5 years old and got an American “remake” that genuinely doesn’t even understand what makes the original so good

The constant demand for content was never going to be a good thing. It’s killing so many IPs and fandoms

12

u/LordManders 1d ago

I didn't hate the Speak No Evil remake. I thought MacAvoy acted his tits off in that.

2

u/Rough_World_7063 22h ago

That’s not a new thing. The Ring, The Grudge, The uninvited, Shutter etc all had American remakes within a few years of the originals

2

u/CinemaDork 11h ago

Yeah, there's a pretty big difference between Disney making more Moana movies and someone remaking a foreign film for American audiences.

1

u/genuinely_insincere 1d ago

I think it's weird how you are so concerned about things being quality, but then you make such an inane, parroted, empty statement about "internet bad."

6

u/fang_xianfu 1d ago

I was going to make a comment about how they will adapt animated properties into live-action but not the other way round, and then I realised that a modern CGI-filled movie a la Marvel is the animated version.

12

u/30fps_is_cinematic 1d ago

No original ideas - too risky. Live actions, sequels and superhero slop is all you’ll get and you’ll be happy with it

4

u/polchickenpotpie 1d ago

Maybe if people actually went to watch the original ideas we'd get more

6

u/Walter_West 1d ago

These movies don’t flop, they make Disney a lot of money. I mean they totally suck, but there’s a reason why they keep on making them.

It’s definitely a case of for terrible or worse for us who are on a sub reddit for movies but for Disney? It’s a case of for better or money

That last paragraph made a lot of sense in my head…

5

u/Hygochi 1d ago

I used "underperforming" and not "flop" very intentionally.

The LA movies are definitely underperforming compared to when they first started with them and have downright bombs like Mulan (granted COVID) and underperformers like Mufasa and The Little Mermaid. These movies don't just cost money they use Disney's reputation which as of late is floundering (pun intended)

1

u/MightyMightyMag 1d ago

I found it rather poetic. I was moved, friend, moved.

1

u/Stop_Sign 1d ago

They're pillaging freakin Lilo and Stitch for a live action. Nostalgia is all they have

19

u/KingCarbon1807 1d ago

I got dragged to mufasa and they'll be hard pressed to excrete a more noxious pile of dung. But casting gadot is certainly a step in the right direction.

7

u/AKSpartan70 1d ago

Funny enough Gadot isn’t even their biggest problem in terms of casting

3

u/hlessi_newt 1d ago

Listen. The mirror didn't put those lines there, he was just holding them. Let's not jump to any conclusions.

2

u/ThisIsTheTimeToRem 1d ago

What was the matter with Mufasa? I didn’t see it but a friend of mine did and came back raving.

1

u/MightyMightyMag 1d ago

In what way? I’ve gotta agree with our man Ben. She’s the worst mainstream actress I’ve seen in my lifetime, and I’m old.

4

u/BombshellTom 1d ago

MMW, it’s going to get roasted here in Reddit and online…and yet it’s still going to make a billion dollars. Because 98% of this movie’s target audience is not on Reddit or Letterboxd and DNGAF what the Rotten Tomatoes score is.

6

u/AKSpartan70 1d ago

Members of that target audience have already outspokenly been upset about various actions/statements of the stars of the movie

If this movie makes a billion dollars, I will Venmo you $500 - set a remindme or whatever. It won’t happen.

3

u/ZeppyWeppyBoi 1d ago

Eh, maybe it will flop. Who knows. I figured the Lion King remake with its uncanny valley lion faces would bomb as well. It made $1.6 billion.

But I think the real target audience is kids, so if it hits the right notes to captivate 8-10 year olds, I think it will do just fine regardless of the actors.

2

u/AKSpartan70 1d ago

Do you have a source for that $1.6 billion figure? Because I’m not finding anything close to that for that movie, despite it still leading during the holidays.

→ More replies

1

u/WakeNikis 1d ago

Does it need to make 1 billion to be financially successful?

Like, are you certain it will flop, or just certain it won’t be an absolutely massive smash hit?

There’s a big difference there

1

u/MightyMightyMag 1d ago

What have they said?

1

u/urkermannenkoor 1d ago

Members of that target audience have already outspokenly been upset about various actions/statements of the stars of the movie

No? That's definitely not the target audience.

I do expect it will do badly, but not because of the silly pearl clutching over some unremarkable interviews.

2

u/AKSpartan70 1d ago

You don’t think the women that have talked about how Zegler doesn’t even seem to respect the IP are part of the “target audience”? This movie is playing on nostalgia. It’s hoping to milk previous generations love for this classic IP and bring it to new audiences. And the older generations have already voiced displeasure with this cast and the style of this “remake”

It's unfortunate that the introduction of the DCEU lore, and the foundation of the Darkseid storyline relies on a Gal Gadot monologue in Justice League. It was doomed to fail.

Prove me wrong.

10

u/MacyTmcterry 1d ago

Honestly, even just you typing it out was a better delivery than hers

3

u/Bennington_Hahn 1d ago

Idk why everyone always makes a big deal about this line. It’s barely 0.5 seconds of bad delivery.

20

u/pooooolooop 1d ago

It’s 0.5 seconds of excruciatingly obvious bad acting

2

u/Bennington_Hahn 1d ago

Until the internet collectively turned on Gal I never noticed it. Marion Coltiard’s (a great actress) death scene in Dark Knight rises was far worse than anything Gal has done (which is mid at best)

14

u/Longjumping-Buy-4736 1d ago

Gal Gadot wishes she was half has as good an actress as Marion Cotillard. Cotillard was poorly directed in one scene in TDKR, the setup of that death scene being extremely awkward (she was heavily pregnant pretending to be stuck in a car crash) and the dialogue absolutely cringe. The whole final act of that movie was straight up, bad. She was mortified when she realised this was the cut Nolan kept.

Not that Gal Gadot ever got to work with good writing, but she has proven to be a terrible actress constantly, yet she gets major roles for some reason. There is no single scene of hers that come close to what Marion Cotillard did in La Vie en Rose or Two Days One Night.

4

u/MightyMightyMag 1d ago

Marion puts almost every American actress I can think of to shame.

I don’t blame her for any of that movie. It was ill conceived and ill executed. I’m sure she had 10 takes that were better than that.

u/pooooolooop 1d ago

That one is more baffling yeah lol

2

u/SwordfishNo7670 1d ago

I disagree with your original point. I think if we can praise a single delivery (which obviously everyone does) than we can criticize a single line delivery as well. But yeah that death scene made my entire midnight showing burst into laughter… the first time I saw it I thought she was fucking with Bruce or something like as a prank lmao

1

u/genuinely_insincere 1d ago

I think she just doesn't put any effort in. Acting does require people to emote properly, and she just doesn't care enough.

1

u/goteamventure42 1d ago

It's the worst 0.5 seconds of bad acting out of a 2 hour selection

It represents the DCEU - the idea that the line was setup like that by the writers, she delivered it and they kept it in; even had a zoom-in like they were proud of it.

Gal Gadot is playing the Evil Queen from Snow White. Angelina Jolie played Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. 2 different characters.

u/DeliriousBookworm 1d ago

Gal Gadot can act. She just doesn’t have a wide acting range.

1

u/Savitar2606 22h ago

That's been my assessment of her for a long time. She has a very narrow range and you can be a successful actor without range.

You just have to be really good at that specific role. Nathan Lane does that, Samuel L. Jackson does it and John Malkovich sure as hell does it.

Gal's best is adequate and she was that in BvS, Wonder Woman and throughout most of both versions of Justice League. I'd even say that she does her best in WW84 but is let down by the story.

2

u/DarkLarceny 1d ago

The hate is because she’s a Jew and to Hamas supporters, this is unacceptable.

Do you think that's why many don't like them? Natalie Portman is also Jewish and she is quite popular.

Natalie Portman didn’t serve in the IDF and doesn’t currently support Israel’s ongoing genocidal bullshit

She moved to USA with her family before she was an adult. She's American

I'm sure Gadot, like most people, supports Israel's actions only to the extent that they're in keeping with international law.

War being, in fact, not the same thing as genocide.

She's popular. Mostly because of Wonder Woman. And she cannot act.

Terrible combo.

She’s by far the worst thing in Red Notice and I’m including the script as one of the things that are in Red Notice.

Before she was a beauty pageant winner and Hollywood actress she was a proud member of the IDF.

Her films are banned in several or all Middle Eastern countries.

The only interview of her I ever watched was a clip where she explains how cheating on her partner isn't a bad thing.

She can’t really act; action movies cover up a lot of bad acting sins.
