Not till two major cities and/or landmarks get wiped out, one within the first 10 minutes and the other just when the audience is starting to get bored.

It's because the scientist is recently separated, his teenage son hates him, but his 8 year old high-IQ daughter sees him differently, and will educate him through his relationship troubles.
He can't get his life in order, so no one ever listens to him. Needs to go right to the wire....
