Anyone here have a garage gym? I’ve got a question about flooring discussion / opinion

Two car garage, need to park on one side and my gym is on the other side.

I know stall mats are usually the most recommended but at $100 each it’s a bit out of budget at the moment

I’m looking at the moment at the Gorilla fitness interlocking flooring

Does anyone here have this same product? How does it stand up to the rain and snow and ice that inevitably come in the garage?

Only half of the garage will have flooring so my car won’t be driving on it.

DO NOT get those. Too soft & get moldy etc etc. Hugely problematic- a poor investment for a whole floor (Edit in: foam are the bad mold prone material that also doesn’t do much - however you preferably still want heavy thick high quality rubber) Horse stall mats are the go to for garage gyms. However other flooring such as animat etc is also an option. Look into dotmar, bells of steel, amazon etc. Buy once cry once enjoy forever

Good to know I’ll look into those, thank you!

Not as bad as say straight walmart FOAM tiles. But yea I would not get them. Post on r/homegym or look around there

Are they fine for a basement gym? Asking because I have these exact mats in my basement lol

I have these in my garage since Feb and have not yet had an issue. Mind you we don't let standing water or snow accumulate on it and keep it relatively clean.

I'll check under for mould tomorrow on everyone's suggestion but haven't smelled any indication that there could be a problem yet. Will report back if issues found.

How permeable are they? Not quite as bad as foam but if low quality and allow water to enter they could still be problematic

So its not like foam which is what really develops mold quickly. If these are the right kind of rubber they would be more okay

Rubber flooring on your garage floor will grow an epic amount of mold under the rubber!

Buy horse stall mats and put a vapour barrier under them

This is what I did , they have them at the Peavy mart (TSC)

I now use them in my garden shed as flooring.

You can get stall mats for cheaper on Marketplace. Its really the best option compared to interlocking. However be mindful of the smell. Ooooooooof

Yeah I’m kind of seeing that now, I’ll keep a look out for some second hand stall mats , thanks!

A product like that should be okay for weather. UV exposure might be a concern. Whatever I put down, I would want to verify that is is non-flammable. If you've got old-style florescent lights overhead they are a source of ignition.

That’s a good point I didn’t think of that!

My gym I go to has similar looking stuff. But then they have sprinklers. I seems to stay clean.

I know of a facility worth tens of millions that burned down because the fluorescent lights caught on fire and then the burning plastic cover dripped down on the floor. Then I saw these burn marks on a couple different other lights.

A few houses ago I had old hardwood on the garage floor. I got kind of gross with sawdust and bugs so I got rid of it. Then I realized how insanely flammable it was.

I tried a product like that prior to switching hot horse stall mats and they weren’t heavy enough and wouldn’t stay together

Drop some dri-core subfloor first. Seems expensive at $10 / 4 sqft but it does wonder. Not in a garage, but we use the Dricore (insulated version) in our damp basement and have generic interlocking gym tiles on top. No worry about moisture or water.
