How to till or level my very uneven lawn?

I have about 300sqm of buffalo grass, however both my front and back lawns are very compacted and uneven

I struggle with manual work because of a back injury, so I am looking for either a cordless or corded tool

Long story short I am trying to really remove the top inch of soil so that I can easily just use a lawn leveling rake to move the loose soil around

Your local tool rental place will have a couple of options, they're called walk-behind cultivator/tiller. A rear tined unit will be easier on your back.

Unfortunately with a back injury either solution here is going to be tough work for you.

If you have a Lawn Solutions Australia accredited turf farm nearby, they might be able to come help with the process, and they should have the right equipment to get the job done right.

If you're looking at levelling an existing buffalo lawn, tilling will basically kill that turf off and you'll be left with dirt followed by inevitable weeds that have been resurrected from the tilling process.

Another solution is to topdress with a clean sand-based topdress. But this has to be done carefully with buffalo, it can't be smothered like a couch grass variety.

Sand-based topdress is the best choice for levelling, as it doesn't break down like an organic based topdress will.

Organic matter can be added later to improve the organic content of the soil, and Lawn Solutions Australia has some good options available online or at their nearest turf farms.

You can find your local turf supplier here, hopefully there's one close by - Lawn Solutions Australia
