Use a safety pin. Pin through the string and close it. Then you can feel to feed the safety pin through. Once the sting is all the way through, take the pin off.

Will this trick work with any other colour pen? Or does it have to be red?

You know I just thought of something... I don't think I've ever seen a purple ball point pen... must be pretty stealthy
2
u/Stormy_Wolf 12h ago
I think you're right. I love purple, so got a pack of five purple ball point pens. Got the first one out, and fairly quickly it vanished. Looked all over but couldn't find it. So I got another one out, and same thing! That kept happening with each one til all five were gone. :( I've been too broken-hearted to buy another purple ball point pen after that experience. :(
2
u/xSTSxZerglingOne 12h ago
Meanwhile there's a picture somewhere on Reddit of someone's entire pack of used and empty purple pens.
2
u/GalemReth 12h ago
Maybe you know the reference I was making, maybe you don't, but I'll explain it for the audience anyway cause it's pretty funny. The comment I replied to mentioned Warhammer 40k, in that universe there are orks. Like Lord of the rings orks they are big, green, dumb, and they love to fight. However in Warhammer 40k orks are also the strongest psionic race in the universe, they're just too dumb to realize it. So the orks believe that colors cause reality augmenting effects, and that doesn't make any sense whatsoever, but because they believe it their psionic powers make it happen. Red makes things faster, yellow makes explosions bigger, blue makes armor tougher, purple makes things stealthy. Now a human might say "that doesn't make any sense how does purple make things stealthy!?" To which the Ork would reply "have you ever seen a purple Ork?" Well no, orks are green... "Exactly, that's how stealthy purple orks are". You now have anecdotal experience of the power of purple with your pens.

The pen color must match the clothing for optimal results. You can try a different color at your own risk.

Proceeds to get pen stuck

u/SharrkBoy 17h ago
If it’s a rigid object (I’ve used a straw before to the same effect) there’s virtually no chance it gets stuck

I mean I don’t have a safety pin at home but I got a lot of pens
Better to just make use of the tools (or things) you already have

Not one safety pin? Yeah your place sounds really weird

u/Essence-of-why 16h ago
Middle aged male divorcee...can confirm, no safety pins in house. Lots of Ikea furniture though.

u/Sanquinity 16h ago
Then buy a small box. It's like a dollar at most and very useful to have in your house...
Same for cellotape, duct tape, sealing tape, thumb tacs, and tie reps.
3
u/Essence-of-why 15h ago
It's been 11 years so far without the need? Now that you mention it, no thumbtacks either.

What are tie reps?
2
u/Sanquinity 14h ago
Oops, used the name we use for them in my country. Those plastic ties that you loop into themselves to tighten them.

I just made the same comment above.
My mum taught me how to do it using a large safety pin about 50 years ago.

u/suckitphil 19h ago
We used safety pins. So that way the pen doesn't get trapped.
4
u/o-roy 17h ago
Dumb question time. What do you do with the safety pin? Seems to small to be able to push it through properly?
7
u/throwatmethebiggay 17h ago
You affix it to one end, put it through the hole, and squish the cloth so your safety pin moves through it
You do this until it reaches the other end where you can pull the safety pin out
→ More replies→ More replies2
u/ReaDiMarco 17h ago
Use bigger safety pins, like around an inch in length. Won't get stuck. Easier to maneuver than a pen.

Or take a long piece of wire, fold it over, feed it through and then hook in the cord and pull it through.

Man screw all these hacks that barely work just buy one of those rethreading things that they sell on Amazon, they're only like $6 and it works in seconds. Comes with a couple really long threading sticks with hooks

I don't think a cap has stayed with a pen for more than 17 seconds after it was removed from the box in this house. Unless it's one of those roller ink pens. But cheap ballpoint like that? Yeah, cap is tossed and pen is topless for the rest of it's life.

Or pin the end of the string with a large clothes pin, and push that through.
Easy peasy.

They don’t show him ripping the hole to make the pen fit. You’d be better off using a kebab skewer or coat hanger if you’re really struggling that hard.

If the string is long enough, just tie knots at both ends of the string that are big enough to prevent the string from slipping through that opening in the waistband. Make sure the knot happens right at the aglets. Problem stopped before it even could start.

Great technique but silly to remove the pen. Next time he needs a pen in his draw string shorts, he won't have one :(
1
u/OrganizationLiving4u 16h ago
Bad idea. The tip of the lace was better. The length of this pen would make it more exhausting as it would get stuck more times than the tip of the lace

I take these out of my hoodies all the time. I hate how they hang down uneven and get caught on everything. I bought a cheapo hoodie from walmart and the lace was stitched at the back of the neck. I couldn't pull it out. Now it sits in my closet, unloved.
I've never thought to do it with pajama pants.
