I think the reindeer decides where they go.

I always think that all the reindeers hate Rudolph.

You can see him steering the deer at the end, far less responsive than a horse, though. Horses respond immediately.

They havent figured out how to steer yet. lmao

People have ridden weirder. Like some cultures in Sub Saharan Africa rode Ostriches.

u/Positive-Wonder3329 1d ago

That is so hype I wonder how fast they can get a a little dude on their back

u/Freddit330 1d ago

They ran pretty fast, and ostrich racing was/is still a sport. Though many are/ was trying to get it banned.

There’s always a party pooper, I can imagine a professional ostrich racing league with the ostrich wearing sponsor’s s merch and stuff

Yes, and no. It's mostly due to the people who are racing are on the heavier side. Horses by and large are the better option for riding.

Women and children riding them is best because they way less than the average man.

Breeding larger ostriches never came about because they are really dangerous. They have a worse temperament compared to horses. It's the same reason zebras(though have been ridden in the past) aren't commonly tamed.

Lol They're also known as caribou.

Reindeer and caribou are the same genus and species, but different sub-species.

Santastic...

u/elasmonut 1d ago

They must be smarter, or more benevelont than horses, if most horses had antlers there would be less riders!!

1

u/whateversynthlife 1d ago

Fascinating!

1

u/Mr_E-007 1d ago

I bet it was ancient teenagers who first looked at horses, camels, and...apparently...reindeer and were like, "I can ride that!"

1

u/sawabinhauk 22h ago

This is soo cool. I was waiting for him to fly.

1

u/JT-Av8or 20h ago

That looks like a pretty shaky ride! That deer can barely walk with that guy on him, and I bet the does can’t do it at all.

u/mibonitaconejito 20h ago

"You'll put yer eye out!"

1

u/Annoying_Bunny95 19h ago

U can ride reindeer? i thought they weak.

1

u/Lord-Fenris 14h ago

Getting impaled because the deer is alert and turns it's head rapidly doesn't sound sustaining

From what I know, deers domesticated for shorter generations have weak backs unlike horses which was bred since human civilization started.

You don't see zebras being ridden in Africa or Moose in Canada, which would have been super awesome.
