What does #7 even mean?
176
u/Edward_J_Mars 3d ago
It is a commentary on the state of the fashion industry. The clothing is cheaply through the exploration of labor that is paid an unlivable wage.
Think companies like Shein which have sweatshops for products.
64
u/rockos21 3d ago
It's not just Shein exploiting foreign labour in inhumane conditions, it's the vast majority of clothing and fashion. From H&M to Target to Nike and even high end brands.
27
u/Edward_J_Mars 3d ago
I know. It was just the first one to pop up in my mind. Thanks for adding on to it. The fashion industry tends to be despicable in these ways (though they are not necessarily the outlier).

How do you explain the drummer guy
21
u/Key-Mark4536 3d ago edited 3d ago
On galley boats that’s how they kept the oarsmen (typically slaves or prisoners) synched up and rowing and the same time. It adds to the “forced labor” aspect.
Hollywood example: Ben-Hur, 1959

it's the age old wisdom of "rich woman buys dress made by seamtress" you really havr yo think about it to understand the subtlely
3
u/sporkting 3d ago
Something along the lines of soCiEty only pays attention to how beautiful the girl in the red dress on the runway looks but completely disregards the borderline slave work that went into making that dress in the first place, especially since the model is probably never gonna wear it again because wearing the same outfit twice is tacky in the fashion world for some reason.
Probably is supposed to address anti-fast-fashion themes against consumerism sites like temu and shein.
15
u/rockos21 3d ago
Why is everyone limiting this to Temu and Shein? This unethical practice is extremely widespread.
I also think it's disingenuous to say "sOciETy" in this context because it's not vague sentiment about the state of the world but demonstrably ideological in late stage consumer capitalism.
0
u/sporkting 3d ago
Because temu and shein are the poster children for unethical workplace practices especially when it comes to fashion items. Shein is literally associated with children sweatshops. Ik it’s a widespread thing but I’m just using the two most obvious offenders as examples.
Also, I said “sOciEty” because this is a post on im14andthisisdeep… I’m not taking it seriously. I’m just trying to explain the picture in a funny way, not write up a sophisticated article about it.

Okay,
- The first image is actually pretty funny though just realised its AI.
- I feel as if the problem with cartoons like these and is that while their messages are valid, the idiots sharing and captioning them as the deepest most meaningful art ever made just oversells them.
- I left sime images out to avoid reposting.

u/Billybobgeorge 3d ago
I immediately recognized the artist from the first picture, it's not AI. Please don't ask why I'm cursed with this knowledge.

u/johnsolomon 2d ago
Yeah I figured there's no way that's AI, there's too much consistency between the frames

The first one is real, just filtered with AI. I recognize the style from that one comic where the guy is tricked into eating an elderly woman’s saggy pussy lips because he thought it was pastrami.

u/Key-Mark4536 3d ago
Point 2 is exactly why I come to this sub. I may agree with the point, but I’ll still laugh at it for being presented in a self-congratulatory “93% won’t get this” manner.

Number 5 hit me like a ton of bricks, it’s truly deep. Number 4 is just dumb tho, what other system is there to choose from?
10
u/Cujo_Kitz 3d ago
Let me tell you, I'd rather have that then the flat road my life feels like right now.
3
u/milleniumfalconlover 3d ago
Hmm, your comment has me thinking maybe there is other systems. Not just week to week, there’s also day by day, in the moment, or start to finish, like you alluded to
1
u/Cujo_Kitz 3d ago
I mean it's not a good one, it's a flat road cause I'm on break, something I've been waiting for, but now that I'm on it I feel empty, nothing I'm working towards and no relief of having all my online classes done for the week so I have until Monday to relax.
1
u/milleniumfalconlover 3d ago
Hmmm, I always love a break, but I have lots of creative hobbies and things to organize and fix to keep me busy. Once I had a weekend to myself and taught myself a couple of sword spinning tricks
2
u/Key-Mark4536 3d ago
You don’t know about Flernsday?
Number 4 is from Success Pictures so I may be giving them too much credit. Their cartoons are frequently reskins of existing cartoons with Deep captions. I assume though that the problem is he’s right back where he started, as opposed to progressing toward something better.

Guy on the top has a rope that he can use to help pull out the guy stuck in the hole. Guy in the hole does not know about the rope and just sees the top guy reaching down to save him.
My guess is that Top Guy knows that he isn't going to be able to save Hole Guy without the rope, but that would take effort and time, so it's just better for Top Guy to try and reach down to Hole Guy, fail, and be like, "Alright, I'll go get help." That way, Hole Guy will assume Top Guy tried to do his best without knowing he could have done more.
In short, Top Guy wants the praise of "helping" without putting in the effort of actually saving Hole Guy.
I'm sure that there's some fitting real-life analogies one could fit into this idea, but I'm already stretching to reach this conclusion.

u/Amogus_Abobusovich 2d ago
Top guy is just stupid.
1
u/ACustardTart 2d ago
That's certainly a faster interpretation. Most things like this have deep social commentary, though. It's likely intended to be about how the top guy is meant to be perceived, or that he's wasting his efforts without considering his other options.

I 'ruined' which joke? Yours or the one in the picture? I didn't even know you were joking, which kinda has to happen with a joke. I definitely didn't do anything to the one in the picture because I echoed what the person above you already said...

It’s not specifically JW, it’s used among several Christian denominations. That’s more or less what “gospel” means, though that definition has fallen out of use.
Of course if you wanted a word you’d find in the source documents, you’d need to go back to Greek as she was spoken at the time.

So they’re anti phone but think people that don’t use tech instead of candles are bad

I don't really get the 7th one? Like people are toiling away to dress the rich? Beauty rules the world? What are yall thinking. I do know I don't fucking like these, but the definitely suit the sub. So good on ya, OP!

u/ASAF_Telis 3d ago
I hope the one of the fashion industry is upscaled, because if it isn't... Man... The artist really won over AI. There are so many distortions, specially on the face of the colored characters, that the artist gave the robots a taste of their own medicine by copying their art style.

u/Forsaken_Distance777 2d ago
None of these changed the way I think. Related to the bicycle week one but you can't just say stop it and have that work.

What's wrong with living your week like that? You ride uphill do you can have fun riding downhill. That's life. If you want to ride your sled down the hill, you have to walk up the hill.
And the one where the solider comes back from war and the kid wants candy? That's life as well. If I was the soldier, I'd have candy with me, because I'd want to get back to normal as much as possible.

7 and 8 are actually making valid points though, they don't really fit in with the others on this list.

u/CircleCeption 1d ago
For number 4 don’t worry I don’t live like this. I hate every day equally. Over 30 of my weekly work hours come from friday- sunday. I have college classes the rest of the week and one short shift on Wednesdays to get me to 40 hours. :P (no hate to my boss it’s better than having the insane class schedule I have then work after. Its the best it could be but its still inconvenient lol. My boss is actually great and I’m super grateful for him.)

As a transgender Christian:
Levidicus, or Levi, y’know the guys that said that homosexual relationships are an “abomination,” are merely a clan of Isralites.
They are God’s children, like you and me, but they are not God, nor are they the word of God.
Check your sources, people.
0
u/Amazing_Use_2382 2d ago
Merely a clan? So this wasn’t rules meant for all Israelites to follow?
I guess with the authorship of these books being pretty anonymous, that could make sense
1
u/DonrajSaryas 1d ago
The fact that it's included in the text implicitly means these rules are being presented as authoritative and good. Leviticus makes it clear the prohibition on sodomy is in a completely different category of bad from stuff like dietary laws and it strains credibility to think that God has no problem with homosexuality but wanted these Israelites in particular to kill any man caught having sex with another man because...uh, he was in a bad mood at the time or something?
Context matters.

So what's the good news, is Jesus finally gonna come back? He's pretty damn late, considering that his followers who he said "would not taste death" did in fact, taste death.
Oh right, the good news is that this world doesn't matter at all because we're gonna di- be saved at any moment and live in an eternal paradise, so we might as well keep on polluting the environment! And paying the church for nothing, of course.
2
2
u/JokeoLandnsea 2d ago
The Good News is supposed to be that, thanks to Jesus’ sacrifice, we are forgiven of our sins. That doesn’t excuse us from taking care of the environment, and it doesn’t mean that this world doesn’t matter. Also it’s specifically pointed out that Jesus did not say John wouldn’t die, only that if He wanted him to not die that was between the two of them. This is the only instance of Jesus mentioning a follower potentially not dying, so not sure what other followers you’re referring to.
