According to the national institute of health covid-19 was first detected in humans in Wuhan, China.

It's crazy if they can't infer from the picture that you were making a joke that it spread so fast because of their massive highway systems. To also say that this is hate speech is asinine.

These are the same type of people that also cry about “misinformation” and then ban me for stating a fact. I’m not very thin skinned but I was absolutely stunned I got banned for that.

Reddit fucking sucks

83

u/Due-Contribution6424 Nov 23 '24

It’s really gone completely downhill, and at this point, I don’t think it’s recoverable.

25

u/Tomatoflee Nov 24 '24

Reddit is moderated at the community level by users. Inevitably there are going to be some bad moderators, stupid people, and sometimes good moderators who make mistakes.

A lot of Reddit is still pretty good.

49

u/NobleTheDoggo Nov 24 '24

Reddit is moderated at the community level by users.

That's true until you get to power mods. They moderate almost every popular subreddit on the platform.

14

u/T-yler-- Nov 24 '24

Yeah... a 5 account cap would be completely reasonable

I agree with that, that’s why I’m still here. There is plenty of good Reddit. I just feel like it’s gotten significantly worse ever since that whole boycott thing.

Maybe if Elon musk buy it

1

u/DiazepamDreams Nov 25 '24

Elon definitely needs to keep his grubby hands off this place. I don't need the only online space I actually enjoy invaded by the ideals of some out of touch billionaire douchebag. People talk about him like he's created the last bastion of free speech with Twitter but all he did was turn it into his own personal propaganda machine so he could cozy up to politicians with the hopes of using his wallet to influence policy in his favor. No thanks.

I got banned because of a picture of some cops beating a black kid. My comment: is part of their culture. Responding to a guy calling the cops violent toward black people. I got banned because the bot thought i was making a comment about the black kid.

I told the reddit mod, hey, look at the comment I'm responding to, this will explain. Anyway, i don't care.

4

u/Big-Leadership1001 shit's all retarded Nov 23 '24

Stupid people can't help but act stupidly. That mod proved they are too stupid to understand context and can't do anything but be stupid because intelligent behavior is beyond the ability of stupid people.

Feel sorry for them. Their whole life is incredidibly difficult because literally everything they see and hear is filtered through that same fog of hostile stupidity they showed you. Reddit is just where they pretend to have some power, real life has probably crushed their spirit every day.

u/Elegant-Ad2014 Nov 24 '24

Hardly surprising

r/interesting is a shithole

Just bots and karma farmers posting any old crap from anywhere. The majority of which isn’t even interesting

I don’t even think it’s an old sub. It popped up a few years ago at the same time as a bunch of other shitty substandard subs like brothatsinteresting and whoahthatsinteresting and some other crap

I’m not even subscribed to any of them but they have completely replaced interestingasfuck and mildlyinteresting in my feed

Reddit is exactly why Elon has a platform for him saying there needs to be free and unfiltered speech even though he seems to do the same thing on X. Reddit is far too gone for open discussion and ideas and it only serves as indoctrination or an echo chamber for the “right” ideas.

1

u/DeathSquirl Nov 26 '24

You know this is reddit, right? Literally any disagreement is immediately called hate speech.

1

u/Usual-Caregiver5589 Nov 27 '24

Sure. But that's because nobody knew what it was before then. In December of 2019, my mother was hospitalized after what she perceived to be a massive asthma attack. She went to the ER, where she was diagnosed with "an unknown rhinovirus" and placed on a ventilator. In hindsight, her symptoms match COVID exactly. She doesn't travel out of country, and tends to stick to familiar locations near home. She never took the COVID vaccine, and hasn't gotten COVID once since it was first officially detected in America.

I got banned from /r/interestingasfuck for simply saying "bunky". Only comment I've ever made on that sub. Before you ask what "bunky" means I was pointing out the subtitle in the video that was clearly misspelled. I think it was supposed to say "bunk mate". No appeal possible.

18

u/DawnBringer01 Nov 24 '24

If someone irl condescendingly called me 'bucko" to my face I might actually just start pointing and laughing at them

10

u/bonesnaps unscannable Nov 23 '24

I don't think under any context I could take bucko offensively (or seriously for that matter).

It's like some term used by boomer villians in old western films when the protogonist upsets them.

If you ask again, you can get suspended from reddit for harassment. Happened to me.

16

u/hellraisinhardass Nov 24 '24

Yep. During COVID a lady was having an online mental break down because she found out that her ex husband (who had custody of the kids) started sending the kids to school when they re-openned. I stated something like "I know it sucks when you don't feel in control of a situation where you feel like your kids are in danger but if it's any help to you- COVID is rarely fatal in school age children" and link the CDC data.

Banned. For 'speading COVID misinformation.'

I've gotten banned from the site for:

Reporting bullying (person I reported still has their account)

Reporting Child Porn (person I reported still has their account and the Child Porn is still up)

Reporting Violence and threats of violence (person I reported still has their account)

Reporting Mod abuse (Reddit isn't going to get rid of someone doing free labor so I get why the mod still has their account)

Reporting people who make multiple accounts to continue to troll on subs they've been banned on (Person I reported still has their account)

Reporting Sexual abuse and threats of sexual abuse (person still has their account)

I got banned from Self for telling someone on tumblr his view on women is stupid.

I got banned from pics for saying "I was really hoping this sub would go back to normal after the election." Before that I was commenting without a problem on pics then after that comment I got accused of participating in a "bad faith sub", when I asked which sub they're talking about I got muted for a month. The mod said in order for me to be unbanned I'd have to delete the offending comment (they didn't tell me which one because I'm 100% sure it doesn't exist) then comment "I have deleted the comment and am ready to be unbanned" Reddit doesn't have that power over me that I'm going to go back crawling to a basement dwelling unpaid internet janitor just to be a part of his echo chamber.

I just got banned from a Rap sub for saying "I'm convinced the mods let these (Racism) posts stay up so they can start a race war in the comments." The mod proved my point by banning me and leaving the race baiting post up.

I got banned from leopardsatemyface (you know, the sub about schadenfreude) for laughing at someone bad decisions.

I got banned from therewasanattempt because someone posted a video of a man claiming he saw a video about a Trump supporter shooting his gun at a Latino kid literally 5 mins after the election. I said "Bait used to be believable, why not post the video instead of talking about "this video" you saw."

Worst part about Reddit is that there's no point in appealing because you always get the same message "We have reviewed your appeal and you ban stays". WTF is the point of an appeal system if you're not going to bother actually reading them?

My advice is don't report anybody because reddit will say "you're abusing the report button" and you'll end up getting banned.

This site turned into shit so quick.

1

u/greenie4242 Nov 24 '24

Facebook is the same but getting worse and worse.

I only use it to keep track of local events, it's excellent at recommending concerts and hobby events that I'd otherwise miss because I can't possibly keep track of events happening 50km away without local knowledge groups.

Some of the groups have been inundated with AI bots and obviously fake profiles, but trying to report them usually ends up with me being banned.

The AI bots are scary but the real people are scarier when they make blatant death threats,  or threaten to rape or stalk people. Yet as you've discovered, if I report those horrific comments, I'm informed that 'These comments have not been removed as they do not go against Community Guidelines' but then if I request a review I'm informed they will not remove the comment, but instead I'm sent a list of trauma councellors or police resources.

If I post the hate speech or death threat comments into Meta AI, in quotes, saying 'Facebook informed me that this comment does not go against Community Guidelines, what is your opinion' Meta AI tells me it is definitely hate speech and I should contact the local police to report the person making the threats.

I've had my Chinese food delivery guy attacked because he was "putting covid in the Chinese food".

Dumb ideas around covid need to be monitored, it isn't a laughing matter anymore.

11

u/Lazy-Bike90 Nov 24 '24

You didn't get banned because your joke was true. You got banned because you know that kind of joke starts shitty debates. Which isn't civil discussion about the posted topic. You got banned for not being civil.

13

u/FreebooterFox Nov 24 '24

Yeah, and they know that. They just wanted to boo-hoo about it, and since they can't do it in the sub that banned them, they decided to do it here, instead.

Funny how their post wound up attracting that sort of crowd, too. Lot of posters from r/conspiracy and the like that don't normally post here. The almighty algorithm clearly picked up on the topic and pushed it under noses of folks who still obsess over this kind of stuff.

The funniest bit to me is that if you give them flak for making a shitty joke, they'll just pivot to sealioning, or Just Asking Questions™ about it, or they'll try to turn it around to make it criticism of you, somehow, instead. This sort knows they're stirring the pot just for the sake of doing so - they actually like that about themselves. They fancy themselves as some kind of maverick that's got insider knowledge that the rest of us plebs are too sheepish to understand. They work so hard to make this such a big part of their personality, that when it comes down to it, they wouldn't know it if an actual conspiracy came by and bit them in the ass.

I've seen vids (no idea if its true or not, I do not care enough to check so take this with a pinch of salt!) of users being banned from X sub, because they are a member of Y.

That in itself is peak stupidity to me.. you've not even done/said anything wrong.. but just by virtue of you being in X sub.. they ban you from a totally different sub.. that is the kind of shite that gets me.. it shows peak groupthink and the absolute inability to handle criticism of your ideas whatever they may be!

EDIT: My personal one is, a trans wrestler whom I'm a big fan of posted a clapback to somebody who was making the usual dumbass statements and I said 'lol wrestlersname.' that's it. literally nothing else.. and was banned for hate speech. reached out and mod looked into it, was banned by a reddit mod, not a mod for that sub.. so, a mod who doesn't even understand the sub they are modding.. banned me for saying lol and a name.. I've literally got photos of me at at event with this star! but no, writing LOL was banworthy..

Reddit mods are let's be honest, a joke. it's a powertrip for the underdog. powerless in their day to day lives, but on here, they get to come and banhammer people for whatever they see fit, with very little reprisal/justice, it is what it is!

Probably because there’s no evidence of that and it’s used as an argument that they’re crazy. What the studies really show is that they have a higher rate of suicide ideation and it’s comparable to other marginalized groups and obviously this is a sensitive issue because of misinformation.

Local news was full of stories about people who spoke with a Wuha/Hubei accent/dialect being refused service in shops, restaurants and hotels. There were even a few villages who bulldozed their freeway exits to stop people from coming to their communities.

u/irosk Nov 26 '24

Was banned from interestingasfuck, because I posted on a sub reddit they don't like.

1

u/JakovYerpenicz Nov 26 '24

Yup, we live in clown world.

Perhaps this is because people use this idea as hate speech? Did you?

The China Flu, for instance. Name calling and inciting hate in an attempt to cover for the confusion and inaction throughout the Whitehouse as people across America died. Didn’t happen in many other industrialized countries. Korea for instance.

~200,000 unnecessary deaths in the USA in 2020. Life expectancy dropped by 1.8 years in the USA. A Russian-style response.

I suppose that’s all fine if you didn’t die, but sucks for your neighbor’s dead grandma. Sucks too, for you if your young third generation US citizen daughter was smashed in the face by some anti-chinese “patriot”. Your grandparents having fled to the USA from thugs just like this.

I got banned from that same sub for commenting on a post that was then flagged. Very harmless comment something "oh wow I know someone this happened too." Bot mods bruh.

u/WarningCodeBlue Nov 26 '24

Welcome to reddit and welcome to censorship!

1

u/LosTaProspector Nov 26 '24

No no no! Now its a fact I have to double down like yall did. It never came from China now!

1

u/assumptionsgalor Nov 26 '24

I got banned from r/China for talking shit about white people. Damn communists!

1

u/Bigdavereed Nov 26 '24

Welcome to 2024. Stating facts is hate speech.

1

u/ccpseetci Nov 26 '24

It is truth but the truth itself hurtful.

1

u/MinusMentality Nov 26 '24

I got a 7 day ban from the Yugioh subreddit for saying "Math is hard, mkay."

I won't even get into the shitshow that was attempting to appeal it.

1

u/Asleep-Carpenter-594 Nov 26 '24

This post doesn’t fit the sub. Also it’s weird that you leave the context of the video out. If it’s not covid related at all I’d understand why they’d ban you.

1

u/on3_in_th3_h8nd Nov 26 '24

Welcome to reddit

1

u/Roqjndndj3761 Nov 26 '24

This is exemplary of one of the many reasons Chump won. I absolutely hate the guy (and more so his followers), but also the left has gone insane.

It spread from Wuhan after it leaked prematurely. The grant request literally states they intended to “release the Covid-19 nano particles into bat caves” all along🤷‍♂️ was it created there? We’ll never know bc it was shipped all over the world. The early 2019 research request drawn up in 2018 from the DOD literally reads “Covid in Ukraine”. The original grant from for its creation is in 2014 with a grant for $23.8 million to Metabiota, still up on the official USASpending.gov website🤷‍♂️ the VP of EcoHealth Ukraine Dr Andrew Huff said on camera “we created Covid and we’ve worked with the CIA since 2015.” Only 1 year from the Ukraine Coup by Obama according to the CFR and Time and BBC.

The truth hurts some people

1

u/IcyCombination8993 Nov 27 '24

I’ve gotten permabanned from r/WorldNews twice. Once for criticizing the CCP for how they handled the pandemic, and another time for acknowledging how MAJORITY OF PALESTINIANS CELEBRATE OCT. 7TH.

1

u/deathbydishonored Nov 27 '24

Isn’t this considered brigading? I was literally banned just to other day my mods and was told that showing or hinting that annoying community banned you, and making the post public was a reason to get post removed. Why hasn’t this post been removed.

1

u/Even_Border2309 Nov 27 '24

Facts are not allowed on reddit you must repeat the liberal echo chamber and spew their beliefs

1

u/No-Cardiologist7740 Nov 27 '24

reddit will ban you and/or remove your content for literally anything

often for nothing

1

u/Ma5ter-Bla5ter Nov 27 '24

Reddit is a leftist echo chamber. If you don't advocate for censorship, big government, leftist media talking points, and war, then there's a good chance that you'll get banned from the sub.

I got banned from white people Twitter sub for saying that "lefty pearl clutching about Project 2025™ made me laugh".

Left can't meme, or joke.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '24

I mean, I kind of think you were banned for making a joke about it, not because it was factually inaccurate. Joking about something that killed seven million people is in pretty poor taste.

1

u/Empty_Afternoon_8746 Nov 27 '24

What prof did you provide?

1

u/MuthaPlucka Nov 27 '24

Didn’t know Raekwon was a mod. Testy, eh?

1

u/bumcheekraider Nov 27 '24

I got a ban on Facebook for calling someone a twat 🤣

1

u/shutupandevolve 22d ago

Someone called my sister a twat on Facebook. Was that you? 🤣

1

u/Smiles4YouRawrX3 Nov 27 '24

Woke reddit being woke.

1

u/begin420 Nov 27 '24

What? It did come from wuhan lol. Whatta dumbass mod

1

u/Terrible_Yak_4890 Nov 27 '24

It was originally thought to be sourced in a market in Wuhan. Then later on it was alleged that a bio lab there leaked it.

That was an inappropriate ban.

1

u/karmagettie Nov 27 '24

If you are intelligent, and not a radical, you will end up banned on many forums.

1

u/Embarrassed-Arm-5405 Nov 27 '24

They won't be happy until the whole world is a safe space. Fucking 10-ply, bud

1

u/PicklesAndCoorslight Nov 27 '24

One day a trans type person posted their outfit and it was really quite neat. Admittedly though I was a little confused because though the clothing was feminine, the gender they were portraying was hard to tell. Anyhow, I looked at their profile and noticed they went by 'he'. On some of the comments that referred to the person as 'she' I corrected them to 'he'. My account was permabanned over it.

1

u/Your_As_Stupid_As_Me Nov 27 '24

Yeap.

According to people of reddit, saying "damn I didn't know animals had squinty eyes too" was racist hate speech as well.

According to the racist ass mod and thousands of people who reported me, only Asians have squinty eyes...

Russians(white) do not have squinty eyes I guess? I'm pretty sure they do.

1

u/TheAnimal03 Nov 27 '24

I was banned for worse. I got banned for saying my friend had a tadpole that never transformed into a frog. It just grew

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '24

Reddit moderators do not always agree with truth, especially over on r/nhl. Fact of life.

1

u/mdmclay529 Nov 28 '24

Mod had on his sissy britches

1

u/SlumberousSnorlax Nov 28 '24

Ya mods can be good but they can be bad. Oh well

1

u/Limp-Ad-8841 Nov 28 '24

It’s going to be ok

1

u/Beneficial-Mess4952 Nov 29 '24

Some people can't handle the truth
