Does Jimmy re sign? Discussion
Player option on the table...yeah he is definitely re signing but let's say he doesn't and he goes out on to the open market as a free agent and leaves for nothing, that gives Miami cap space especially going into 2026 free agency and list of free agents in 26:
- Lillard
- LeBron
- Beal
- Durant
- Lavine
- Trae Young
- Doncic
- VanVleet
- Kyrie
- Harden
- SGA
- Ayton
A long list including Jimmy

Doncic and SGA the only players worth signing out of there and they not going nowhere. Maybe Kyrie or Trae but that depends on what the team needs at that time.

Dont see sga or doncic leaving unless mavs/thunder completely blow up in the playoffs but even then if they do crap out its probably the FA fault

He probably opts into his player option this summer cause ain’t nobody gonna give him a max - as for if he resigns, really depends on how negotiations go between him and pat

Players are going to keep getting a big reality check with the player voted addition of the salary apron. Couple players are going to turn down their options to then realize nobody can afford them anymore thus signing a cheaper vet deal.
We are at a point where if the player wants 50+mil and is 35 or older they better just opt into their player option.

A good agent probably won’t let that happen now that a few players have already been burned but let’s see what happens

My bet is:
- This year he sees that contenders don't have the cap space to give him what he wants. He takes his Player Option instead for the guaranteed 50m.
- Next year if healthy he tests free agency and if again no one has the cap to give him what he wants, we extend him for 2 years on like 35-40/yr.
Free agency isn't what it used to be. Star players aren't turning down these massive extensions. Free agency is more for quality role players. The only ways to get a star now is through trade or draft. We don't have the draft capital for trade.

Jimmy will go where the most money is. Chances are it’ll still be in Miami even if its not at the price he wants.

I think the best chance we have for any of these FA is whichever team blows up in the playoffs

Seems like a lot of old heads at risk of taking massive paycuts if they don’t get extended
