What is you preference for mounting these for the arisaka mounts? As in which type do you prefer?

Cloud has their own lineup of mounts that work well but any scout arisaka mount should work too. For instance I use the inline arisaka mount with the Gen 1 REIN and it works great. The type of mount really depends on your use case if you need it offset, moved forward for suppressors, etc etc

I’d suggest Arisaka inline mount then. It pushes the light forward a good bit if you mount the light as far forward. That way you have less shadow if you run the suppressor a lot.

I have mine mounted to a DD RIS II using an Arisaka offset mount and I like it a lot.

Got one from these guys, I didn't realize how light these are compared to the streamlight hlx I was using.
I did replace the mount with an arisaka inline I already had.

Really? Streamlight lists 6.9oz and REIN lists 7.25oz. Strange.
Was trying to find that one post where some redditor compares the specs on a bunch of wmls.Found it. Looks like REIN weight includes mount

You'll see it when you have them side by side. I think it's the bulky lens on the hlx. I pulled the mount off to use on the Rein. (I'm not playing favorites or anything, I have 3 rifles and each one has a different light, Rein 2.0, modlite PlhV2, Streamlight HLX)
Why did I get the fancy lights when I had a perfectly good HLX? Color options. They look cooler when they match.

I got one of these a couple months back when a blem deal was posted. I really don't understand the hype. The switch and mount seem like really cheap plastic. The cable is brittle and tears easily. I prefer my Streamlights or GoonBeam, especially when price is a factor.

Only thing I'd say about Goonbeam is that the switch is a slightly different length from both of Streamlight's switch versions, so some aftermarket switch mounts won't fit.

Currently I have it mounted without the remote switch, just using the tail cap switch that it also comes with. I have the light mounted using an Arisaka 45 degree Scout mount (https://arisakadefense.com/offset-scout-mount-m-lok/). At one point I got an M-Lok switch mount from Shaffer Machining and the holes are close but do not line up (https://www.shaffermachining.com/product-page/streamlight-pressure-switch-m-lok-mount). Goonbeam does include a switch mount for 1913 rails though.

Do you have the gen 1? I don't have any of those complaints with mine. I put the cable through the ringer getting it set up and it's held up fine.

Yes, but only because when it goes off, it takes your jaw/head with it and you don't have to worry about the aft anymore.

I'm going to order one of these lights, but can someone explain to me if I need to buy an additional mount to mount this light to an M-lok rail? I want to mount this light as far forward as possible on the left side of a MK16 rail
I'm new to these lights.

The cheapest reliable rifle light you can get is the Streamlight HL-X which is about $100.

What makes them so "reliable" though and how are the cheaper ones unreliable? I mean I've used cheap flashlights of all kinds all my life and they always seem to work fine as long as they have charged batteries. Like are other tactical flashlights known to fail to turn on or something? I've never really put a tactical flashlight on any of my guns so never looked at them but seeing one for $300 I had to wonder what made them so expensive. Wasn't trying to insult anyone. Just trying to figure out where the extra $250 of value comes from.

For a tactical light you want it to be potted. Those $40 lights are not going to have potted electronics and will be shook apart by rifle fire.
Also don't like that you're being downvoted for asking a question.
I will say tactical lights are marked up. I wouldn't trust my life with a cheap light, and neither will most people, which is why the proven quality brands are priced like they are.
If you know what you're doing you could buy a cheap (but high quality) $20-30 Convoy brand light and pot it yourself.
As a /r/flashlight enthusiast I'm pretty disappointed with the tactical light segment, but in a defensive situation I wouldn't be relying on an amazon special.

Kinda dumb, all tactical lights should be. And for how expensive they are it should be expected.

Ok. I guess my luminary needs are just not what others are. If I'm putting a light on any of my guns it just needs to turn on and show me my target. Doesn't need to be so bright it also gives them a sunburn but that is just me.
And part of my frame of reference is the dude on TFB TV seems to have found a $40 flashlight on amazon he seems to like that he puts on his shotguns during his torture tests. Light seems to last perfectly fine, the mounts seem to have the problems.

Sure:
- Amazon is a shithole company that is Anti2A
- Amazon attachments are notoriously trash for ANYTHING going on a real gun. Their optics, lights, red anodized trash parts, etc. are chinesium junk prone to failure after a few magazines. (I didn't have anyone to teach me better when I first got into guns, got a shitty amazon wml for my Glock that would flicker on and off after every shot I fired. On round 14 or 15 the mount snapped and the light went flying downrange.)
- For actual quality gun accessories, Amazon has been known to send out knockoffs instead of the real deal and often for the same price. People will get the real expensive item like an EOTech, put a chinese fake in the box and send it back for a refund, and Amazon will take it without realizing what the last owner did and send the next unsuspecting person a knockoff optic still for that $600 pricetag.
Tl;dr, stay far away from Amazon for gun related items, for most anything in the firearms world there's no such thing as "jUsT aZ GuD"

Ok amazon was just like a base example of a cheap tactical flashlight I had seen. I imagine you go to cabelas or big 5 or bass pro they have a similarly "affordable" tactical flashlight selection too so it was more about in general what separates a $40 flashlight from a $300 one? Are all the cheap flashlights just chinese made shit or are there just features and functions about these that I am unaware of like a certain level of lumens or a strobe feature or something?

Basically the cheap ones are Chinese-made shit. Lower lumens & candela are small problems compared to snapping and flying off under recoil, or just not turning on when you need it because the last shot you fired at the range actually killed it.
I imagine you got downvoted because your question kind of comes across like "why would you pay $300? Aren't you smart enough to just get a $40 one on Amazon?" I don't think that's what you were trying to say, but it can come off that way.
Also, Big 5/Cabelas will be the same grade as Amazon's $20-40 light, but probably cost $75-90. Streamlight is pretty widely accepted as the most affordable light that can handle real use on a gun.

You’re getting ripped for asking a question but for me, it’s the dependability of the switches and the light itself. Some of the Chinese brands like Thrunite, Nitecore, Jetbeam, etc make excellent tactical lights that will be far more durable than most rifles or users. Those cost basically the same or more than Streamlight. Are the switches and other system parts as good though? Who knows. They do have some nifty features.
If you take a night carbine class, having that monetary switch within very easy reach is critical. Also you’ll be moving quite a lot, climbing barriers, and doing it all in gloves and cold. You also paid like a lot of money to be in that class to be trained on how to be a better and smarter shooter… it would be a waste to buy a $40 light that craps out the first hour. Or even if you buy two of them… well might as well bought that Streamlight which is also on Amz.
