Cities with breathtaking geographic features? Discussion

I’ve only been around the United States, Canada, Mexico, and a few European countries, so my experiences are pretty limited, and maybe I’m a little bias, but seeing Mt. Rainier on a clear day in the backdrop of the Seattle skyline takes my breath away every time.

I know there’s so many beautiful cities around the world (I don’t wanna sound like a typical American who thinks the world is just the states lol).

Interested to hear of some examples of picturesque features from across the world.

Even more gorgeous on it too. The grassy meadows were truly something else.

Took this picture on my trip there in late September. The red on the ground is all berries, which numerous brown black bears comb through and eat

Looks like the visitor's center at Paradise. Funny how this shot makes it look like you could just hike on up to the top in an afternoon.

Paradise is the wrong side, they said Sunrise side. This is from the walk up to split to Burroughs or Fremont Lookout, up the ridge from the sunrise parking lot.

Is it hard to summit? Or a regular hiking/skiing trip?

Summiting requires mountaineering experience, not to mention it's over 14k feet. Definitely not for the faint of heart. People train for months before they go up there

I see! I guess you can hike the loop around for fun but stay away from the top unless you got experience. Cheers.

There’s tons of trails , so i would say it’s as easy- hard as you want it to be.

There’s a cemented loop, fairly easy … around 1 hour

The one pictured i would say it’s a mild 3 to 4 hour hike

And you can actually hike/camp for 2 days if you want to get to the actual summit

Probably pushed the white balance slightly to get rid of the bluish cast... maybe bumped the saturation a little... but I don't think anything egregious was done.

It was extra snowy 2 summers ago, couldn’t summit because of it. I encourage all to climb it, it’s a crazy personal victory

There is only brown bears, and very few at that, in the far northern cascades of Washington. Any bears south of that are black bears.

*black bears. Black bears may have brown fur but true brown bears are only just returning to WA in North Cascades

I call them blueberries, but I’ve heard others call them huckleberries. I’m sure I’ve at least eaten my weight in them over the years.

Huckleberry is the right term. I tried it and it had a dry mouthfeel, like wine. Was also quite acrid. Maybe due to the season (early fall) that I ate them

I figured, but they are blue and taste like blueberries, so I’ll keep calling them blueberries.

Of course, like any fruit, how they taste depends on how ripe or how old they are.

Edit: as well as the conditions they were grown in.

No I just pushed sliders slightly as I took this on Fuji x100F standard film setting which tends to be blue and undersaturated. It was near evening during the photo and I remember it looked even more vivid than the photo.

Grassy as in low lying plants. It’s a lot of different plants.

Mind sharing which trail or overlook you took this photo at? I went a couple summers ago hoping to see some wildflowers but it was still covered in feet of snow all the way to the Visitor's Center in Paradise. I definitely want to make a return trip.

Its basically on the Skyline Trail loop near the end of the loop. I started left -> right so endnof the loop in clockwise fashion
