If true then this isn't just poor management or a bad work culture causing excessive overtime, physical abuse is straight up illegal in most countries so depending on the details (headlines can be click bait with the actual stuff that occurred being less serious than it's made to sound) this could escalate to legal action and potential prison time for the offenders.

Every industry now is basically like this. People doing the work get treated like shit, paid barely anything. People at the top enrich themselves and demand more every year.

Breaks my hear to read stories like these - I know a few game devs, and the amount of heart and soul they pour into their craft is as huge as any traditional "Artist."
The working conditions for their "art" seem to be just terrible across the board... and there are so many dreamers out there willing to take their places at major studios that it seems impossible for a union to ever form.

There is no such thing as "crunch", it's an idiotic whinny leftist term. The correct word is "overtime" and it's common or outright inevitable in many fields and perfectly acceptable, provided the ones involved in it are financially compensated.

If it were just regular overtime, there wouldn't be a separate term for it. Nobody has a problem with appropriately compensated overtime. Plenty of people have a problem with being understaffed, underpaid, and expected to complete multiple complex tasks within unrealistic timeframes.

I mean... I didn't have a fucking clue what crunch meant in that context until I read their comment.
