It’s been a while since I watched the anime or read the manga but maybe I’ll start the 1000 year quest soon

It's fun.

I started Fairy Tail very late and so by the time I finished the main series, ep 5 of 100 year was already out so I just kept on watching with no gap.

There was also a joke with Gray and Frosch that had me going. I don't expect too much from the show, and I'm just watching for the girls, but every episode there is a gag that really gets me.
