Ohio State fans are who we thought they are Football

One poor outlier decided to start a thread about showing some class and how Buckeye fans shouldn't troll Oregon in this sub-reddit. Well that conversation went about as well as you thought it would. Pretty much every comment was them saying "the hell with that".

They are who they are stereotyped to be. There's a reason they came in at #2 in a Sports Illustrated poll for the worst fanbase.

Check it out....

It was over the top bad. There was one person who posted a pic of someone putting a gun in his mouth and titled it “Oregon”. My son killed himself by GSW. It triggered me, bad.

16

u/[deleted] 5d ago

Decency is hard to find sadly.

3

u/bluescale77 4d ago

I’m really sorry about your son. I can’t imagine dealing with that.

u/ChewyWebb 4d ago

There are a lot of us. OSU is always good so the craziest fans rarely get checked for long. It does lead to an avalanche of nasty at times from the fringe but the percentage of reasonable fans is about the same as any other fan base.

u/Moldy_Cloud 5d ago edited 5d ago

Chronically online college football fans are terrible all around, unfortunately. It’s the same everywhere— Ohio State, Michigan, Washington, Oregon State, and even our Oregon.

24

u/my_yead 5d ago

I was at the Rose Bowl and every Ohio State fan I talked with was perfectly nice, even when the game was over. The internet is not real life.

7

u/Tsquared10 5d ago

That's exactly what I was going to say. Even getting blown out we talked Xs and Os all game, whats working what wasnt, then fist bump wished them safe travels, and we're gone. Hell even on my flight home I was in a bar at the airport surrounded by OSU fans, not a single shitty thing was said. I even lived in Ohio for 4 years. Outside of those that are chronically online, they're decent folks.

6

u/CJRacing_369 5d ago

This is so true and I am glad there is a discussion about it. I feel like 90% of those toxic online posts are trolls posing as fans to make the whole fan base look bad. It has gotten out of hand.

1

u/soffselltacos 5d ago

Facts, I expected them to be rubbing it in our faces but almost everyone was really nice tbh

19

u/ConsiderationCrazy22 5d ago

Buckeye fan here who has no hate for the Ducks. You’re the only team I was cool with joining our conference with the realignment since you’re competitive as hell and you have an excellent coach who’s really just getting started.

Chronically online toxic fans exist and suck in every fanbase. However, due to the sheer size of our stupidly large fanbase, our ‘fringe’ minority toxic fans are more plentiful than those of other big teams. As an alum, I can tell you the most vengeful Buckeye fans are the ones still sitting in their folks’ basement or who couldn’t get into main campus to save their life.

Happy to have you in the conference to boost its competitiveness, I’m sure many more matchups await! Nothing but respect from me.

51

u/TheFoxBride 5d ago

this is it, there are a ton of shithead classless oregon fans too

23

u/Moldy_Cloud 5d ago

Yep! It’s honestly really disappointing. My wife, an Oregon State fan since birth won’t go to any Duck games because of how terrible some fans have acted. People need to do better and remember that football is a game… for fun.

6

u/Zealousideal_Owl9621 5d ago

Oregon State fans are rabid little shits. I went up there for the Civil War a few years ago in both football and basketball. Let's just say I've had warmer receptions. However, they're not nearly as awful as Husky fans. Good lord, after my visit to Husky Stadium, the rivalry stopped being fun.

1

u/eckoman_pdx 4d ago

It honestly cuts both ways. I had beer dumped on my head as a 10-year-old at Husky Stadium when I went to watch Bill Musgrave and the Ducks play, and I had the same thing happen in my late teens when I went to Reser Stadium to watch Akili Smith and the Ducks take on Oregon State. Had it happen as a kid when I went to then Parker Stadium for the Civil War as well.

My Mom went to Oregon, my dad went to Oregon State and one of our family friends who was like a grandfather to me was on the Oregon 49 Cotton Bowl team. So, we went to a lot of games both home and away over the years.

6

u/soffselltacos 5d ago

There were a few Ohio state fans in our section at the rose bowl and several other Oregon fans kept having to calm down this dude (duck fan) who was flipping them off and yelling at them whenever they cheered for their team… shit was corny as fuck

-4

u/Inner_Emphasis_73 5d ago

But according to OP, your reasoning is just whataboutism… people just don’t want to accept facts of it pertains to their fan base

1

u/dickdickersonIII 4d ago

just like what garrett wilson said recently “social media is just not real”

27

u/2TheArsenal 5d ago

As a mod for the OSU sub please report any trolls my way so I can ban them, thanks!

u/pitylikes 5d ago

Dude you need a hobby. It’s sad how much time and effort you have spent being salty.

20

u/Billyxmac 5d ago

I just looked and most of the top comments were basically agreeing and saying it’s a bad look and stupid to post in our sub.

I even made a post in here thanking the mods for keeping the trolls out, but we have to remember that not all of their fan base is like that. We all have extremely shitty fans. Although their shitty fans seem to be the shittiest of all lol.

9

u/[deleted] 5d ago

Weird...when I looked it was them welcoming Huskies fans and then it was several pages worth of them talking shit about Oregon.

17

u/Billyxmac 5d ago

I saw the top comment about r/huskies, which is fine, it’s just banter. And the next few were about staying out of our sub.

If they talk shit in their own sub I don’t really care honestly, and y’all shouldn’t either. I talk shit about Ohio State year round. It’s just clownish to go in to each others subs and do it.

4

u/[deleted] 5d ago

I don't care about what they do in their channel. I never step foot in there. But they've been flooding in here over the last few days. Apparently that brings value to their lives.

1

u/Billyxmac 5d ago

Yeah, like I said I have a big problem with that. I’ve made that super clear on this sub and on r/CFB. I got downvoted to hell on that sub when I brought it up.

But whatever they do on their sub I could give two shits about.

1

u/ender23 4d ago

As a non ducks fan, reddit has suddenly promoted a bunch of your subs posts to me.  Every day for the last week I've seen at least 1 promoted thread trying to get me in to this sub.  Before that I'd never even known the address to the sub.

The Algo is promoting and baiting this type of behavior. And the worst of each fan base will cross over.

1

u/eckoman_pdx 4d ago

That's true, the algorithm won't stop trying to show me posts from the tOSU sub. I've never gone in there and have no interest in doing so. It's annoying AF.

2

u/WSPBUCK 5d ago

I’m an OSU fan.. OSU had the worst fans by far.. why is that? OSU has the most alumni and fans of any team.. so while every fanbase has a percentage of lunatics, OSU has more because they have millions more fans than any other team

10

u/Brotatochips_ 5d ago

* This dude Dm'd me after we won against OSU in the first match up(afteri posted a comment in THIS subreddit), then waited all this time to come back so they could talk shit. I can't even imagine doing something like that in my own time. Imagine being so soft after a loss.

I stood next to a few OSU fans in Autzen, and they were super chill dudes. Too bad these perpetually online, insufferable fans give the rest such a bad name.

3

u/[deleted] 5d ago

I had a couple DM me as well. Pathetic.

52

u/No-Split-866 5d ago

Well, in all fairness, they do live in a flat, ugly hellscape. Not to be rude, but we have it going on. My life does not revolve around college football.

12

u/Temassi 5d ago

Those poor, poor bastards.

3

u/BarryDondarrion 5d ago

As a recent transplant from Oregon to Cincinnati, you’re not wrong. Kentucky, especially towards the Red River Gorge, has a lot of natural beauty, though that state’s populace is not my favorite to deal with. SE Ohio in the Appalachia Mountains is supposed to be beautiful as well, but that’s off the beaten path. Sure do miss seeing the mountains on clear days. Just glad Ducks away games are within driving distance!

-6

u/ayampeme 5d ago

As a bucks fan from Ohio, living in Colorado for years, I truly enjoy Ohio. The Appalachians run through a good portion of the state and there are many beautiful areas. Country and woods, lakes and rivers.. How much of Ohio have you visited? Doesn't compete with Colorado, but there are things I miss.

9

u/No-Split-866 5d ago

There's no place like home, I guess. To be fair, I've only driven through the state once. Paid more attention to cleveland and cincinnati. Population alone is a no-go for me.

4

u/jtmv4 5d ago edited 5d ago

Not a fan of the Buckeyes or the Ducks, but I recently moved to Ohio. People love to bash it even though they’ve never visited and know next to nothing about the state. COL here is great too. If I had the choice, I’d live in Oregon since I love the outdoors. That being said, Ohio is pretty underrated, and it certainly isn’t a hellscape throughout

9

u/downey_jayr 5d ago

The fuck are you in a football sub for then? Also, which is your favorite burning river?

0

u/jtmv4 5d ago

Bold coming from someone who lives in a state with the most polluted waterways. (Source: https://oregoncapitalchronicle.com/2022/03/23/oregon-high-among-states-with-most-polluted-waterways-according-to-new-analysis/).

It’s alright, y’all. Oregon is beautiful and Ohio has parts that are beautiful too. What matters most is that you’re happy with where you live, and I hope that’s the case for everyone. Cheers!

4

u/downey_jayr 5d ago

Analysis has a pretty broad definition, and its “impaired” rather than polluted.

Why are you in a ducks sub? You still bitter about the ass whopping we gave you last year?

-6

u/jtmv4 5d ago

It just popped up in my thread, and I’ve been nothing but pleasant. Congrats on a great season and for winning the lottery by getting to live in Oregon! I promise I’m not being sarcastic- it’s a gorgeous state and I’m very jealous you get to live there!

2

u/john___thundergun 5d ago edited 5d ago

We all get an opinion bro. You're welcome here. People are a little emotional right now but don't take it personal

1

u/bluescale77 4d ago

No idea why you’re getting downvoted. Take my upvote.

3

u/bentbutbroken 5d ago

A lot of my fellow Ducks fans forget that 80% of the state is uninhabited and ugly scrub land.

7

u/headstar101 5d ago

Having encountered aOSU fans in the 2010 Rose Bowl sealed it for me. I've never encountered a more toxic fanbase in my life. That includes Man U fans, Inter fans, England fans, Husky fans, USC fans, Sea chicken fans, and Tottenham fans.

It's pretty impressive if it wasn't so indicative of their poor quality of life.

10

u/satansayssurfsup 5d ago

Who cares

-5

u/elizabethc00 5d ago

Like just block the sub if it’s that annoying. Like we’d be doing the same thing if we won

8

u/stuh217 5d ago

Well before we joined the Big 10 I think I hated that fan base more than any other. Insufferable twats, most of them.

9

u/[deleted] 5d ago

I was warned by friends and family members who are B1G alums that Buckeye fans are unlike anything we had in the PAC12.

17

u/yeender 5d ago

Yeah they are terrible. But what do you expect with anything to do with Ohio.

2

u/pewpew30172 4d ago

I mean, Ohio Rizz is something the entire country says. Everyone hates on Ohio.

1

u/yeender 4d ago

That’s because it’s bleak AF

1

u/pewpew30172 4d ago

It's not even comfortable driving across Ohio to other destinations. It actively makes itself a pain in the ass even when you're just trying to pass through.

3

u/brannibal66 5d ago

They're definitely moving up my shit list.

10

u/Proud-Document7030 5d ago

As a Buckeye fan, I promise you this is the vocal shithead minority of our fanbase. Most of us love you guys, greatly respect your team, are super glad that you're in our conference, and acknowledge that you're the fasting rising team in CFB (your recruiting classes, portal, coaching staff, and training facility mean that from here on out you're a perennial top 3 team).

12

u/RecommendationFree96 5d ago

I’m going to disagree with you 100%. Idk how much of a “minority” you think it is, but it’s a pretty large and significant minority. Regardless of the ass kicking we took at the rose bowl, we rightfully deserve a little bit of shit talk for that game, which is fine, but I’ve seen how Ohio state fans have disrespected Oregon from the first game this season. All year since that game I’ve heard hundreds of different comments from Ohio state fans who couldn’t even respect the fact that we won the first match up and were making up excuse after excuse for the loss in the most condescending way possible. It’s one thing if you guys wanna talk shit about us after the rose bowl, but after what I saw from that first game, I learned that Ohio state fans are some of the biggest and most fragile ego’d group of fans in the sport. They couldn’t accept the fact that they lost to a team in the regular season and instead of eating crow like we are now, so many Ohio state fans went out of their way to talk down on us, and our program as if it was disrespectful for Oregon to even be on the field with Ohio state let alone beat them. So I learned after that game, that no matter how many of you Bucks fans are out there extending the olive branch, there’s 2 or 3 buckeye fans ready to spit on us as if we’re the peasants and they’re the kings. And frankly that’s why I’m disappointed that the big 10 is 18 teams, because I want a shot at revenge next year and every year after that. It’s very clear that we still have a hurdle to climb to be respected and I want this team to have the opportunity every season in the big 10 to rip the respect from buckeye fans over and over until this condescending attitude disappears like it did with Michigan. My only hope is that Dante Moore rolls for us next season and Ryan day puts together another 20 million dollar roster so we get a shot at you in the big 10 title. But don’t get it twisted…Ohio state fans have 100% earned the hatred from now on for how they act.

15

u/yuperton 5d ago

Us Michigan Fans:

5

u/Square_Pop3210 5d ago

It’s a definite minority, but it’s a huge number of Ohio State fans who are assholes. When you have the largest fan base in the country, by far, (https://www.elevenwarriors.com/skull-sessions/2023/09/140829/skull-session-ohio-state-has-the-largest-fanbase-in-college-football-buckeye-receivers-improve-with-the-monarc-seeker) even if 95% of the fans are cool, we still have 563,000 assholes, and most of them never went to the school or even stepped foot on the campus grounds. I have lived my whole life in Ohio, but went to a MAC school. I cheer against OSU when my alma mater plays them, but I’m now also a proud parent of a Buckeye, so I’m more of a fan of OSU because I’m currently writing tuition checks to “THE” and I’d like to see the success of the school my kid currently goes to for their sake. Sorry so many OSU fans are trolling on here. Honestly, I think most sane OSU fans like myself are excited that Oregon athletics elevate the status of the Big Ten, know the UO football program is excellent, think Lanning is probably one of the best coaches in all of college football, and we are looking forward to great games between these 2 outstanding state flagship universities in the coming years.

3

u/DrPickleback 4d ago

IDK, I like you guys. Oregon is a cool state, it's not Republican, you have pretty good fly fishing, uniforms are cool and helmets are always bomb. but I understand if you don't like me back. you dont owe me anything.

4

u/Proud-Document7030 5d ago

I'll accept flack for the online clown portion of our fanbase. Just know that if you ever visit Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo (take that M-scum (inside note, they think Toledo is in their footprint (it's not)), or other Buckeye cities, you'll find that most of us love your team. You have a hell of a lot of talent, you've always been fun to watch, you're a cool fanbase, and you were robbed of a national championship against Auburn (seriously, the rule for which body parts can cause you to be down is indelibly black and white, it is not possible to bend the rule to justify that call). Also, your state is absolutely beautiful.

Regarding our game earlier this year, most of our fanbase thinks: 1) you intercepted the ball on our first drive, 2) offensive PI shouldn't have been called on our last drive, 3) you straight up outplayed us and left 10+ points on the board, so point 2 above is sort of moot.

Finally, yes, a portion of our fans really suck, but just remember that Michigan is responsible for the Insane Clown Posse, that swimming in Michigan causes lead poisoning and swimmers itch (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swimmer's_itch#:~:text=Swimmer's%20itch%2C%20cercarial%20dermatitis%20or%20schistosome%20dermatitis,occurring%20in%20the%20skin%20of%20humans%20that), and that you should never trust anything that a Michigander tells you (Michigan State, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, and Eastern Michigan fans exempted)

3

u/RecommendationFree96 5d ago

I respect you throwing in the hatred for the insane clown posse towards Michigan in there 😂

0

u/ConsiderationCrazy22 5d ago

It’s a large and significant minority due to the sheer size of our fan base. We have one of, if not the biggest fanbase in college football. Our minority is gonna be hella bigger than most other teams’ minority.

4

u/BourbonBuckeye526 5d ago

I was very happy when B1G got Oregon. I was happy to y’all starting the season strong, I was sad when Ohio St lost, I was behind yall getting your undefeated season followed by first conference ‘ship. Definitely happy when Ohio St won round 2, still happy to have ya. Oregon is a great program and a huge get for the conference.

Plenty of organizations have horrible fans and I promise most lifelong legitimate fans welcome good competition and understand losses happen and other teams can be good too/better. I will not be taking questions. Go Ducks!

2

u/Talas11324 5d ago

You should see their comments on any post about Syracuse being and the records Kyle McCord has set. They just can't let the kid be happy

2

u/Salmon_Surfer 4d ago

I suppose college football fan bases simply mirror the rest of society. All are made up of passionate, competitive and genuinely kind-hearted people who love their team. But all have few toxic members who fail to remember or separate themselves from the fact that at the end of the day, it is just a game.

3

u/dagobruh 5d ago

Every Ohio State fan I've met irl has been awesome. Nearly every fan I've interacted with online has been not awesome. Some kind of pattern there.

4

u/TrasedRX 5d ago

I (OSU fan) apologize on behalf of a lot of those boneheads.

3

u/WinnieOllie7 5d ago

I’d be willing to bet 99% of the trolls didn’t even go to Ohio State. Ohio State is a good academic school, anyone who actually got in and graduated from there has better things to do than troll on Reddit. They’re losers that get their self worth via other’s achievements.

1

u/Rust3elt 5d ago

Haha Don’t count on that

4

u/NoobJustice 5d ago

Pretty much every comment was them saying "the hell with that"

I looked at the top 15-20 comments and not a single one did that. They were mostly agreeing with not coming here, with a few "who cares about Oregon move on" sprinkled in. You're outraged about something that isn't happening.

4

u/[deleted] 5d ago

You're 100% wrong. Every time I revisit that thread I see stuff like:

Their sub the last 16 hours has been hilarious.

Go there if you want a quality laugh lol

They’re cutting up over there lmao. The “Oregon with still zero national championships megathread” post killed me

Who gives af about Oregon anyway? Games over. They’re irrelevant. Time to focus on Texas. Nothing they have to say matters

Don't tell me my business devil woman

If they weren’t so fucking arrogant, then maybe they wouldn’t be getting their nose is rubbed in it

The people with the worst (or best) burns have been from Washington. Husky Bros are welcome here!

Remember when everyone called us soft for locking our sub because of brigading? I don't feel bad for Oregon at all.

lmao are you the college football police? people will do what they do just worry about yourself. duck fans raided osu comments for basically the rest of the season

And then there's this gem....

Our reputation as “the worst fan base in college football” is awesome. Go talk shit if you want.

I can go on and on and on

3

u/youarentmydensity 5d ago

Those are not the top comments on that thread. You’re just lying at this point😂

1

u/banana_in_the_dark 4d ago

They also aren’t even that bad..

And it’s weird to be upset about being called the worst fanbase when OP is making a post about calling someone else out for that exact trait

1

u/NoobJustice 4d ago

If you search hard enough for something to get butthurt about, you'll find it.

0

u/bl84work 4d ago

This, it’s manufactured, the ducks fans and bucks fans I know in real life dgaf

2

u/Zombie4141 🦆 5d ago

I saw that post.

I also saw Marcus Mariota slap defensive linemen on the butt multiple times after being sacked by them. As a captain of an adult rec league I encourage my team to hi five the opposing players who make a good plays. When somebody scores on me, I’m usually the closest one to them, and I always share their first hi five or “great play” with them when they get up off the pitch. It makes everyone feel great when the spirit of the game takes center stage.

I try not to disagree or talk trash when it comes to games, it’s nice to win, but it’s better to be able to walk away with pride when you don’t. It takes a long time to learn this mentality for most, but it sure feels good on the car ride home.

2

u/InevitableJoke9193 5d ago

RAGE BAIT. In Dan Lanning we trust. WHO CARES?

3

u/ericksenevoks 5d ago

Accounting for the playoff Ohio State at best can only be second in BIG 10 standings even if they beat Penn State. It’s black and white, any national championship would be illegitimate. Spread the facts.

1

u/dabswhiledriving 5d ago

it was 34-0 at one point and they already lost to us once, they're entitled to talk some shit. just hit em with "you have to live in ohio"

1

u/Ammondsnow 5d ago

Look how some of the players have acted also.

1

u/utero81 5d ago

Apparently their main reasoning and justification for being in our reddit constantly is because our fans were in theirs constantly talking shit all season.

Sorry that's bullshit. I've been lurking in their sub most of the year and it very rarely happened. Now there's this fucking ball gargling between Washington fans and anOSU. I don't know what we're supposed to do about it.

1

u/DoctorSchnoogs 4d ago

Over the last 3 days I've received 5 DMs from different Buckeyes fans...some of which were referencing comments I made 2 months ago.

These people are deranged.

1

u/oregonian1738 4d ago

I don’t say this with hyperbole. I would rather listen to Washington fans from last year than Ohio State fans this year. At least Washington earned their right to talk trash. After the first game, I swear it was 7-8 weeks of Ohio State fans swearing it was a conspiracy against their team that their QB slid with half a second left and that the world was out to get them.

1

u/eckoman_pdx 4d ago edited 4d ago

My wife used the work in a relatively high level position for a company based out of Columbus, so we had to travel there several times a year from Oregon. Nothing I'm seeing from the tOSU fanbase right now surprises me, that's exactly who they were every time we had to fly to Columbus for her work. Our initial thought was borderline toxic. They'd win a game and be damn near overturning cars and dumpsters because they weren't happy with the final score or something else asinine like that. They've been wanting to fire a coach forever who's never lost more than two games in a season, you'd always hear about that. Just seemed like terribly toxic fan base, and things like that are a good indicator for what kind of person someone is.

I'm sure there are some good fans for tOSU. Maybe we just ran into bad apples every time we visited (which is certainly possible, her ex-employer seems to be filled with toxic people in general so perhaps that was part of it). In my experience there were definitely some toxic ones. I keep reading that all the tOSU fans Duck fans ran into in the Rose Bowl were genuinely nice. Good to see that after what we experienced in Columbus and what we've seen online. I'm just glad she works for a company based on the West Coast now. I never have to go back there again if I don't want to. Long flights across three time zones are never fun, they really mess up your internal clock. I can only imagine how the players on each side feel.

2

u/njrm98 1d ago

As someone who was at the Rose Bowl, they're just as bad in person.

1

u/Defiant_Chip_8979 2d ago

When you have the biggest fan base in college football , you will also have the biggest amount of idiots . Good season duckies .

1

u/njrm98 1d ago

I was at the Rose Bowl. I had heard about them, was warned about them by Tennessee fans, but wow, I could not have prepared myself for that. Yelling obsceneties (in front of small children too), threatening to fight people, flipping off Oregon fans, yelling in their faces, etc. All while being up. It's one thing to be a sore loser, but a classless winner is on a whole other level. I was really disappointed, due to that alone I can't say I wish them any luck. That was the worst I had seen from any fan base.

1

u/ShredKing26 5d ago

I mean im an OSU fan and Ducks are my second fav team haha them jerseys are fucking awesome haha

1

u/Bradenflash2 5d ago

Will stein needs to go because he call a damn good play, and I bet every duck fan is tired of seeing screen plays or throwing about 3 yards from the line of scrimmage or even run up the middle but even though we should go to the outside a bit more often

1

u/Cool-Break2326 4d ago

90% of that thread is people saying not to come over here and talk shit and ripping on people that do it. 🤷‍♂️

0

u/hereforporn696969 5d ago

OK? At no point did I excuse Oregon fans. The issue is about quantity of behavior. That's a classic whataboutism where you pretend like two things are equal despite them being of radically different scale and frequency.

-3

u/Big_Bluebird8040 5d ago

bigger the fan base, the more fans of every type you have and ohio state has thee biggest.

1

u/Zombie4141 🦆 5d ago

Y’all played one hell of a great game. I’d call it a perfect first half. Good luck down the stretch. Hope you’re enjoying Chip Kelly as much as we did.

0

u/Mountain-Candidate-6 5d ago

To be fair before the game, during the game, after the game, and at a bar well after the game all their fans were super friendly and showed nothing but class. Was the same way in ‘09 when they beat us in the rose bowl too. I told one of them before calling it a night I absolutely hate your team but your fans are pretty great.

0

u/doomplayer413 5d ago

i hate to be a “not all men” type person, but i assure you it isn’t all OSU fans. i’m a senior at ohio state and, while i did shit talk my one friend who’s a freshman at oregon (little retribution from earlier in the season), i refuse to actively treat the fanbase like shit. y’all are usually pretty nice, though you can talk shit about as well as we can and i love that kind of banter, id rather live life like tez. that man earned so much respect from me after that game, and thats how id like to represent our program in your sub. i won’t say i don’t talk any shit, bc i 100% edited the duck dynasty guys to have OSU logos on their shirts at the end of the game, but at the end of the day, yall had an amazing season and it’s something to be admired, playoff loss aside

3

Talking shit and trolling are fundamentally different.

Buckeyes weren't being banned by the boatload the other day for simply "talking shit". It was absolutely vile.

im sure you’re right, and, since i don’t frequent this sub for obvious reasons, i didn’t see it. i’m sorry all of you had to deal with that, especially to the father who lost his son, but i can assure you that a majority the current student body knows better than to be that evil. i know we have a bad reputation for good reason, but i want to make sure at least some of the good ones are represented here too

u/[deleted] 5d ago

Appreciate that...thank you

1

u/doomplayer413 5d ago

i don’t know if this is sarcastic or not, it reads a bit as such but feels genuine, so i will say thank you as well. you all put up a hell of a regular season and made a genuine fight in the second half, had me biting my nails for a bit there. hope that the newest powerhouse of the big 10 leads to some fun matchups in the future

I'm currently being trolled by an Ohio fan... IN THE MIAMI SUBREDDIT. I didn't mention anything about Ohio state. They just felt they needed to come try to trash talk there, when no one fucking asked them. WILD! UNHEARD OF! So that is what is meant by worst. You're welcome.

1

u/shaggypotato0917 5d ago

You being upset about getting trolled while you were lurking in another team's subreddit trolling is not the flex you think it is. That's just classic victim mentality.

1

u/Active-Track-7905 5d ago

...you understand that you are trying to insult me while doing the thing yourself, right? How meta of you. Har har har, everyone laughs.

I guess thank you? The fan base is far and away the largest in college sports, and most are definitely not doing that. The lunatic fringe the Kirk referred to is just a tiny fraction, but a tiny fraction of millions is still a lot of morons

1

u/Active-Track-7905 4d ago

This is a silly, backhanded compliment. Far and away the largest? You don't even have the largest stadium. I bet Alabama might have a thing or two to say about the largest. But they don't stick their noses around half as much as your fans. The only thing large about Ohio state fans is their fuckin mouths.

1

u/li4bility 4d ago

It’s the largest by over 3 million fans. Pretty considerable. We don’t need the largest stadium to have the most fans. Those two statistics aren’t correlated. Brand exposure and alumni network are though. Not sure exactly a metric on brand exposure, but I’m sure it’s among the highest. Alumni network is in fact the largest. Alabama is 8th in size of fan base (behind Oregon btw). I’m here being civil and you’re being a fucking prick, and yet OSU fans have the bad wrap. Makes sense

1

u/Active-Track-7905 3d ago

LOL, you did a census, huh? Must have been hard to find the time between all of your lurking and telling people what's what that you do.

Oh and I TOTALLY believe your non-sourced data. No one lies on the internet.

Also, I work in data. You can't say that something is correlated and not know how the metrics work. That's like saying that planes can fly but no one really know why. Sheesh. Good thing the OR mods are easy on you guys, that last sentence wasn't very nice.

Hard to do with GPS these days

1

u/[deleted] 5d ago

I feel like the definition for the word is fairly clear. Apparently the sentiment is widespread enough that the Buckeyes fans ranked 2nd behind only Alabama.

What I've seen goes far beyond "mad shit".

7

u/li4bility 5d ago

If “worst” = toxic then I agree. Honestly surprised that the fan base is #2. Seems low. I’ve definitely seen a lot of stuff that makes me embarrassed to be classified as a fan of the same team as others, but at the end of the day I can’t control any of them, and I’m still going to cheer for my Alma Mater

0

u/Zombie4141 🦆 5d ago

I think toxic and worst are synonymous, but hey at least you’re self aware and you’re not here to gloat. Your Alma mater played the best first half of football I’ve ever seen. Good luck down the stretch.

Only team I inherently don’t like is Michigan. And not even because of the rivalry, but have had several occasions of fans being assholes in person. Nothing but love for Oregon. Love the colors, Eugene is the shit, Oregon is a beautiful state, and I was named after Steve Prefontaine. Only reason I didn’t go to Oregon was because I’m a legacy and wanted to go to law school. All for the shit talking and a healthy rivalry, but friends not foes

I’m a life long Oregon fan going back to the 80’s when they were perennial basement dwellers. I will always be a fan of my Ducks come hell or high water. With that said, there are some really awful fans on our side as well. Usually it’s because they’re liberal nut jobs who want everything now, without having to endure the hard times and the work it takes to become relevant. If you need another example, look no further than your average USC fan who thinks the world owes them something because of what happened 30 years ago, or more. Like a lot of OSU fans, they expect to go undefeated in everything, forever. That’s just isn’t possible. I don’t blame the school, the team or the program. It’s usually what you get with entitled douchebags who don’t have enough security in themselves or their personal life to handle things not going their way. And I swear to all that is holy that 9 times out of 10, those are the same people that puss and moan about everything else in their lives as well. In terms of history, the Ducks have been average or worse for much longer than they’ve been elite. In actuality, their success is pretty recent by football standards. It’s always the new bandwagon fans who have these incredibly wild expectations. I don’t take them seriously because they have no idea where this program has come from. We are going to be okay at the U of O. It’s just a matter of time. Enjoy the process of getting there. If you’re focused solely on arrival you are going to be a miserable prick forever.

To be fair, there are toxic fans in every sub. There was an Oregon dude that went after me and reported me on some bullshit just because of my flairs. Dude got me banned for like a week because he was talking shit and I went back at him.

1

u/[deleted] 5d ago

No one is suggesting otherwise. It's about quantity and intensity.

Like comparing stealing a piece of gum vs that bank heist in Heat. Yes, both are examples of theft.

You’re living in the past man! Get over it! You had a good year and it’s over, see you next year, welcome to the Big Ten

We deserve to be trolled. Our team put out an embarrassing performance. Time to take the licks, support our team, and wait for September.

The top comments aren’t even a little negative. Also Reddit is a small sample size and anonymity breeds hate. I also want to point out making a post about a group of people and identifying them as the worst isn’t any classier, if not stooping to the same or even lower level of what you’re condemning.

1

u/[deleted] 4d ago

I literally posted the top comments and they were clearly negative.

So if I say "Nazis are horrible" that in turn makes me horrible?

Think before you comment.

0

u/banana_in_the_dark 4d ago

I think you need to refresh your feed. Top comments are all in agreement that it’s classless and to stay out if there’s nothing nice to say.

So if I say “Nazis are horrible” that in turn makes me horrible?

Not the same thing. You are basically making a thesis about a fanbase that is behaving exactly the way you’re behaving. Unless you do indeed do exactly what nazis do, in which case yeah, you’re horrible.

Also I did think. I waited 24 hours before even commenting because I was debating on whether or not it’s even worth it. I should’ve moved on.

-2

u/64_bananas 5d ago

Oregon found Michigan and Ohio found Washington. Haters gonna hate. It’s part of the game.. wash the sand out and move on.

-4

u/Inner_Emphasis_73 5d ago

What college doesn’t have classless fans, including Oregon? I’ve seen many fellow ducks fans act like pure trash online and even worse in the stadium.

2

u/[deleted] 5d ago

Did you call them out? I love the whataboutism.

-4

u/SenseiSledge 5d ago

Bold statement coming from the team that literally spit on OSU players this year.

2

u/[deleted] 5d ago

"team"

One player. Is that some Ohio math on display? One player equals a fanbase.

Do you see me condoning his behavior? Is that behavior rampant? Is Oregon voted the 2nd worst team in the country because of it? No? Didn't think so.

You seem to really be struggling with multiple concepts. The exception vs the rule and the fact that Oregon fans torched him.

It's fairly comical you think the behavior of a large number of Ohio State fans is somehow justified because ONE player did something that no one condoned.

You're just posting low quality nonsense.

Keep on proving my point. LOL

Nothing says "Hey we aren't trolling other teams sub-reddits" like someone who is actively trolling another team's sub-reddit.

Comical levels of lacking self awareness.

Oh and nice parting shot. Yeah, that definitely proved your point! LOL

Interesting example because he was kicked out of the game and disciplined. He was also derided by both fans and the general college football fanbase. No one was condoning or minimizing what he did.

I don't think that proved the point you were hoping it would.
