Soothing music helps dogs to relax? [Misc Help]

Hey everyone, I’m hoping to get some advice for my Jack Russell who’s really sensitive to every little city sound especially at night time— sirens, traffic, construction, you name it. I’m thinking about trying soothing music to help calm him down, but I’m not sure if that would actually work. Has anyone had any success with music or found other ways to help their dog cope with city noises? I’d love to hear your experiences or suggestions!

I have a rat terrier, and we do both sound training and music sessions. I regularly play audio of construction, babies, trucks, fireworks on low in the background while we play. I also take him to view them from a distance- when we first started, my dog had a thing with garbage trucks. So we went to look at garbage trucks every week. We saw them so much that my garbage person started waving at us. We also do relaxation protocol, with music, and he does seem to enjoy it.

Dogs actually really like classical music! There was a study done on it

Found out that there are actually plenty of good Spotify playlists for dog relaxation... for instance: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5guKmtgvcJpDEKq2MZeT6h?si=7VfMunQmTemiDmBCUK1ACQ

I put on a radio station with talk and mostly classical, with some other stuff mixed in to get ours accustomed to a variety of sounds and hide incidental noises from outside. He’s fine with most things, but Missy Elliot “get yur freak on” gets him really fired up.

I had a dog who loved the rosary particularly when chanted in the Byzantine chants as well as liturgies in Ruthenian plainchant and Galician chant.

I have plex on my tv (it’s free) and I leave the live 24/7 mythical morning show on for my doggy. He loves people, so hearing them laugh and talk chills him out a ton.

I also pack kong toys and freeze them and give one to him when I leave!

Yes. Jazz. Classical. Instrumental. Calms my terrier right down.

Classical, it’s been scientifically shown to calm nervous dogs

You might try a white noise machine... If you have a Roku they have dog channels.

“Through a dog’s ear” is a good playlist for dogs. I listened to a podcast about dogs and sound sensitivity- they said you should never put on any music for a dog that you haven’t listened to all the way through. I realized why this was a suggestion when my parents put on “jazz music” for their dogs and there was honking car horns and sirens in a song 😂 not exactly soothing

I actually notice that the piano music relaxes very well. My dog just gets very comfy near the tv set.
