200 for me. But I snacked on raw veggies and cheese before the meal. I was jittery as I began snacking so I’m sure I was below 70. Brought home a slice of chocolate cheesecake I’m going to eat soon.

At least it didn't say "HI" to you. Silver linings. Lol! When your meter greets you in the morning, it's never a good day.
7
u/Mobile-Musician-6150 Nov 29 '24
He’s only 6 points away tho lol
9
u/BioNova33 Nov 29 '24
🤫🤫🤫 No, it's totally bad, I know. I was just trying lighten the room a little. I know how much these highs take the life out you; it's awful. I empathize.
8
u/Mobile-Musician-6150 Nov 29 '24
Yeah I feel bad too really hope he is about to get it down quickly I use to live in the 3 and 400s no idea how I’m still alive. Now if I go above 195 i feel like utter crap. 500 is hell

u/baugofbones Nov 29 '24
Deng what symptoms get intensified when going higher in blood sugar?
3
3
u/zeldaguy85 Nov 29 '24
I'd also add just extreme lethargicness and having a full bladder every 30 minutes. And at least for me, blurry vision.
3
u/SearchOver Nov 30 '24
For me it is frequent urination and my feet and hands start to ache a little. After that if I don't get myself in check I get lethargic and I start getting cramping or weakness in my back and chest muscles. I haven't let it go beyond that, though. That hurts enough to get my attention!

u/mostfa-115 Nov 30 '24
6 point away? I use different device from the one on the post , mine is (on call plus) and it can read 500+ normally , i only get HI on 600+ which happened maybe once or twice in my life lol

Been there before, it can be scary when the nausea and dizziness or disorientation starts. And my meter went up to 600 and said Hi as I went over 600.

u/18randomcharacters Nov 29 '24
Mmmhmm. I’m 267 and climbing. 20 units on board not putting a dent in it.

Those are the worst. It feels like a barrier is stopping the insulin. I know at some point it'll work and go help when it does, the roller coaster begins.

What is your insulin carb ratio? The insulin doesn’t start to lower my blood sugar until 75-90 mins after injection, and I have to walk at least half an hour for it to be the most effective, usually I walk twice, once after I eat and then again at an hour and 15-30 minutes after injection. I also have to be prepared for the rebound with complex carbs.
4
u/18randomcharacters Nov 29 '24
1:7 units:carbs
Yesterday I had a total of 129u
Wednesday was only 87
2
u/NoAd3438 Nov 29 '24 edited Nov 30 '24
How much is long acting, or are you on a pump? Yeah, I can sympathize with that carb ratio. I get about 1:10 when I walk, and about 1:5-6 if I don’t exercise-walk. Good thing we don’t eat like this normally.
3
u/18randomcharacters Nov 29 '24
Pump
2
u/NoAd3438 Nov 29 '24
Ok, so you have to adjust it for meals. It can be hard to estimate carbs. Do you try to count carbs with an app or just estimate how many carbs and the insulin you will need?
0
u/18randomcharacters Nov 29 '24
My friend, I’ve been diabetic for more than 15 years, I’m not here looking for advice, just commiserating
3
u/NoAd3438 Nov 29 '24
I understand, I was not offering advice. I am just wondering how people choose to handle their specific situation. I stopped trying to count carbs most of the time because it’s such a moving target.
3
u/18randomcharacters Nov 29 '24
I ballpark the carbs. Especially for a meal like that. I’m not measuring out mashed potatoes
2
u/NoAd3438 Nov 29 '24
Agreed, we can always do correction doses later when we see. Life is too short to get caught up in counting carbs. I would rather have to take more insulin injections later than overestimate, the palpitations, sweating, and disorientation is not worth a low, besides the rebound from complex carbs gets me every time.

On top of it I left my G7 receiver at my grandmother's house who lives over an hour away and have a non-compatible phone with the G7 🙃🫠 ahhhhhhh finger pricks it is ig till I can go see her again

You could try downloading XDrip and connecting to that. It handles a bunch of sensors that dedicated apps do not.

u/asliceofbread109 Nov 29 '24
yes, when my sensor expires and there is no more I have to finger prick too!

I stayed at normal blood glucose all day. Ate 5 scrambled eggs this AM so super full from high protein/healthy fat in them.
Selectively ate some turkey, keto low carb cauliflower stuffing, pickled veggies & some Brussels sprouts w bacon.
Dessert was low carb, sugar-free chocolate cream pie w fresh whipped cream & coffee!

And I'm currently 223 about 5 hours after eating. That's with 3 units fast-acting before eating and taking metformin as usual. Oh, and my CGM has been a good 20 points lower than regular meter for a couple of days now, which is why I took the shot before eating. I was a little higher than I would have liked to start.
But dang everything was so good!

u/Bradadiah Type 1 Nov 29 '24
Holding steady at 240, though hopefully not for long

u/noburdennyc Type 1.5 Nov 29 '24
Got up to 251 for me. I think that was after reinjecting for some banofee pie.

u/ShawKempt12 Nov 29 '24
I did good this year… ate a whole thanksgiving meal with lots of carbs, but with timely injections, noting over 245!
4
u/ShawKempt12 Nov 29 '24
Correction, just checked my G7 graph, nothing over 220! Frakin’ awesome! 👏🏾
5
u/Prof1959 Type 1, 2024, G7 Nov 29 '24
I pinned my G7 at 300 for an hour (just rude to not try a bite of each pie), and I'm passing 200 on the way down before bed.
You know I'm hitting the turkey and stuffing tomorrow again!

Amazingly, I only peaked at 229 last night. Took a total of 15 units throughout the meal. I always over bolus on Thanksgiving because there's never a shortage of food available if I start to crash.

u/pixelninja13 Nov 29 '24
I took my insulin too soon for the carb load and ended up not enjoying my food because I was just cramming it in to bring my blood sugar back up. It went down to 63 and I was shaking and feeling awful. Surprisingly it never went above 300.

u/Clarinet_Doc Type 1.5 Nov 29 '24
I forgot to dose because my Omnipod controller restarted itself when I went to pre-bolus. Peaked around 290, but I am chilling at 120 after a late bolus. Happy holidays, everyone!

u/Swimming_Director_50 Nov 29 '24
Dang OP, that would scare the bejeebers out of me!!
Well, I don't quite know how I managed this, but I peaked at 141 today. I had two plates of food (but did skip all stuffing, potatoes and bread) and had a large piece of what can only be magical pumpkin pie. I was expecting big numbers for that! It was homemade (not by me) from real pumpkin and I could see some actual pumpkin fibers so am thinking it was just so high in fiber vs processed pumpkin, that was what mitigated things. I was just wanting to be in control, but not In Control and I probably could have had some scalloped potatoes or another piece of pie! lol
I will be getting that pie recipe for sure!

Haven’t been diagnosed as type one or two, just been told by an endo two days before thanksgiving that I “definitely have diabetes of some kind” due to an A1C of 7.5. Taking 250mg metformin daily until he “figures out what type” I am. Four hours after my thanksgiving meal I was at 269 ✨ no regrets ✨ The apple pie and cinnamon rolls were worth it. I hope every single person in this thread has a fantastic holiday season regardless of what their numbers say 🎄

201 before the big meal, and 188 2 hours after. took 25 units of humulin (and metformin was 2 hrs before eating)
3
u/NoAd3438 Nov 29 '24 edited Nov 29 '24
That’s why I injected 30-45 before eating and still went to 200 twice, always the rebound with complex carbs. I have been to 500 a year ago before I started insulin injections. Been over 600 and that’s uncomfortable. What is your baseline? Thanksgiving is carb heavy. 45 units on one meal even with walking a little.

u/Jheritheexoticdancer Nov 29 '24
Gulp a a few pints of water. A doctor managing a diabetes study told me that that’s a quick way to dilute things and get it down a little quickly.

First Thanksgiving after diagnosis. Ate way checked and definitely felt it but im back down to 140 this morning so feeling pretty good about the whole thing. Maybe the fact they promised dinner at 4pm and it didn't get served till like 8 helped.

u/Delicious_Delilah Nov 29 '24
I had 8 pieces of fried chicken and 2 large sugar free cappuccinos for my meal today and didn't even break 200. I was pretty surprised.
I still need to dry brine my turkey, so we'll see what happens when I have that plus roasted veggies in about 3 days.
I think I'll break 200.

I hit well above 300 today too, and it’s rare for me to ever go that high, it was a ride! I felt like I had a wall with my insulin like another commenter mentioned too, rage bolusing all day. I ended up changing my pod and even took an injection. I’ve finally leveled out now that it’s time for bed. All back to a normal diet tomorrow 😅

Hope everything is back in range & you feel better today! A lot of hidden carbs in the gravies and seasons etc. Some went high, some went low, it's the delicate dance only a person with diabetes knows. Happy (belated) Thanksgiving anyway!
