5

u/Teredia Oct 29 '24

I was gunna say insulin, butter was a guess…

7

u/TheNotSoAnonymousMan Oct 29 '24

Ahh should’ve went with your first guess drumroll please (insert old gameshow host voice here) ITS INSULIN AT nearly four hundred dollars a bottle this life sustaining product will keep yo…

6

u/Teredia Oct 30 '24

Wow that figure hurts! I’m Australian… I just looked up the price of insulin here it’s under $40 AUD per vial My dad’s insulin dependent type 2. Think he gets them in a pack of 5. Keeps 4 in the fridge n 1 on his coffee table for easy access.

Nearly 400 dollars just hurts my heart!

Welcome to America it’s anywhere from 35 (only if your a senior citizen)(and also only very recently so) and the max is 1000+ for anyone who’s not a senior citizen luckily we have insurance but unlucky we hit our max out of pocket every single year for at least the last 6 years

3

u/BraaainFud Oct 30 '24

The only beauty of hitting the max oop is that everything is free from there on out (until Dec 31st).

4

u/TheNotSoAnonymousMan Oct 30 '24

I know don’t need something don’t care we will take it

3

u/TheNotSoAnonymousMan Oct 30 '24

The Insulin compartment gets very very full this time of year

3

u/BraaainFud Oct 30 '24

It's the biggest reason I'm going to see a dermatologist tomorrow. My hair is evacuating at an alarming rate in 2 separate places on my head. I only noticed the 1st batch last week and got a second patch confirmed by my hair stylist over the weekend. I'm not opposed to wearing a wig, but feel like I'm still a little young to go full GI Jane.

3

u/TheNotSoAnonymousMan Oct 30 '24

Yeah if you don’t keep a good blood sugar your blood vessels will get damaged starting with the least important and quickly moving up the list not trying to scare you but it kinda should scare you ngl

It leaves me speechless n heartbroken for you guys. Every time I hear about costs of medication over there.

0

u/TheNotSoAnonymousMan Oct 30 '24

Dosent matter it’s still the greatest country in the world AMERICAAAAA 🇺🇸 f$&k yeah 💥

1

u/Ok_Emu_8152 Oct 30 '24

And it'll hurt your head even more when you convert the currency from USD to AUD. 400 USD in AUD is right around 610 AUD. Or if you're unlucky like me to live where without insurance it'd be 1200 USD a month or 1830 AUD 😭

2

u/SaneFuze Oct 30 '24

How Dairy.

2

u/Slaves2Darkness Oct 30 '24

I know. I mean come on that is the medicine shelf, not the butter shelf.

52

u/jebbayak Oct 29 '24

I don’t understand how people DON’T know that is the insulin compartment (even when I visit) /s

28

u/EmploymentTrue9493 Oct 29 '24

BwaHahaha!!! “Insulin Compartment”!!! This post wins the internet today…Thank you!

11

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '24

Keto?

7

u/imzslv Oct 29 '24

oh, definitely keto hahaha

5

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '24

Me too!

6

u/MsbhvnFC Oct 29 '24

I don't have one of those compartments, so mine goes right next to the butter.

1

u/Apocalyptias T1, A1C 5.9, Dexcom G7 Oct 30 '24

I actually keep butter in mine, but there's a shelf next to it that houses all the medication!

6

u/butteredkernels Oct 29 '24

That's.... That's my mounjaro compartment. Someone has soiled the sacred grounds.

1

u/Foreign_Plate_4372 Oct 30 '24

You don't need to keep mj in the fridge after it's opened

4

u/TheSessionMan Oct 29 '24

I'm firmly on team cheese drawer for insulin storage. Things love to fall out of the these compartments.

1

u/sugabeetus Oct 30 '24

Yeah I did use cheese drawer, then took over a whole crisper drawer where I can also put drinks I don't want anyone else to steal (because they know not to go in Mom's insulin drawer).

3

u/Ok-Character-3779 Oct 30 '24

I know this is a joke, but just in case anyone else finds this interesting/useful...there was a 2018 study that suggested that storing insulin at room temperature might actually be better than storing it in domestic refrigerators. Basically, fridges sometimes get too cold, and that's bad for potency.

The butter drawer is the warmest part of the fridge, and that's why you're supposed to keep it there.

4

u/KeyUnderstanding6332 Oct 29 '24

Isn't the door, part of the fridge that gets most temperature fluctuations? Wouldn't it be a worst place to keep insulin?

20

u/SupportMoist Type 1 Oct 29 '24

No because insulin is stable at room temperature. It however cannot be frozen. So you’d rather have it in the door which gets less cold than store it in the back of the fridge and risk it freezing.

7

u/ithrow6s Ketosis-Prone Type 2 & PCOS | Dexcom Stelo Oct 29 '24

On the flip side, most people rarely keep their fridges open for that long, and you can quickly see how much insulin you have/when they expire

2

u/zztop610 Type 2 Oct 29 '24

Where is the butter?

2

u/Cute-Aardvark5291 Oct 29 '24

its not even a good place to store butter! or eggs! or insulin!

2

u/Guy1nc0gnit0 Oct 29 '24

I used to call that the “butter penthouse”, but now we just call it the “the PENthouse”

2

u/DDthatsallfolks Oct 29 '24

If only insulin was as cheap as butter *le sigh 😮‍💨

2

u/punkerster101 T1 Oct 30 '24

It’s funny we all keep it in the same place

2

u/Long-Dock Type 1 Oct 29 '24

bruh I NEVER keep my insulin in the door compartments. I don't want it swinging around!

16

u/Ignorantmallard Oct 29 '24

Have you been Diabetic for more than 3 days?

Also: have you ever opened a refrigerator door?

1

u/TheNotSoAnonymousMan Oct 30 '24

Not gonna lie he’s right

2

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '24

3

u/pitshands Oct 29 '24

Don't care. Grew up on a farm ,:)

1

u/Ignorantmallard Oct 30 '24

Yeah me too dude.

1

u/pitshands Oct 30 '24

You are the sheep or the Sheppard

1

u/Ignorantmallard Oct 30 '24

Yeah and you either fuck cows or you don't!

2

u/pitshands Oct 30 '24

I don't but occasionally when things get "stuck" you have to go in. Great Grandma grabbed a handful butter and worked her way in.

1

u/Ignorantmallard Oct 30 '24

Which hole though?

2

u/pitshands Oct 30 '24

Never kiss and tell

1

u/bee_lovely T2 - 2007 - Metformin/Exercise Oct 29 '24

This made me giggle. That will now be called the Insulin Compartment.

1

u/Teredia Oct 29 '24

They’re just trying to butter you up!!

1

u/MonaVanderwaal T2/2024/Lantus Oct 29 '24

I feel VERY seen.

Keep mine in a little aluminum Pokémon tin in that same compartment. The tin holds my current insulin and some alcohol prep wipes very well. And keeps it safe from rolling out.

1

u/mateo_rules Oct 29 '24

I keep both in there

1

u/Xzeno Type 2 Oct 29 '24

All I see is a fellow Costco shopper

1

u/Trivius T1 2010 MDI Oct 29 '24

That's the cheese/Insulin compartment for me

2

u/canthearu_ack Type 1 Oct 30 '24

Hmmm, need some cheesulin :-)

2

u/Trivius T1 2010 MDI Oct 30 '24

No carbs so it's a legit snack

1

u/Infamous_Estate8035 Oct 29 '24

I do the same thing

1

u/Infamous_Estate8035 Oct 29 '24

It's a new product Butter flavored insulin

1

u/BreezyViber Oct 30 '24

Croissant, croissant?

1

u/BDThrills T1.5 dx 2018 T2 dx 2009 Oct 30 '24

We have too much insulin to keep it in the butter tray area but it is in the shelf right below it.

1

u/whitesuburbanmale Type 1 Oct 30 '24

I have 3d printed holders for my insulin vials that stick to the wall of my fridge. Takes up virtually no space and I can fill my butter compartment to the brim as in the OP.

1

u/hoggergenome Type 1 Oct 30 '24

They butter move cuz keeping that in THAT compartment is insultin to us.

1

u/Foreign_Plate_4372 Oct 30 '24

Yeah but butter though and in tiny individual packs

You know there are kids out there that have never experienced the joy of good butter

1

u/diduknowitsme Oct 30 '24

Your LDL Is gong to shoot to the moon

1

u/Hot-Site-1572 Type 2 Oct 30 '24

I put both butter and insulin there lmao

1

u/T1DOtaku Type 1 Oct 30 '24

Sadly my fridge's insulin compartment is so tiny it knocks the boxes out when I open it 😔 Miss the good ol days of being able to store upwards of 8 boxes in that bad boy.

1

u/moronmonday526 T2 2016 Diet CGM Oct 30 '24

I have never seen that much butter at a home that didn't feature a cow.

1

u/Hour_Ad_5604 Oct 30 '24

It's so cool to know I'm not the only one who does this!

(using the insulin compartment for insulin, I mean)

1

u/Necessary_Papaya_930 Oct 30 '24

It's not the best lube, but I'm also not one to judge.

1

u/6puredream9 Oct 30 '24

I guess you are on Keto diet.

1

u/SGartgirl Oct 30 '24

You bake alot?

1

u/warriorcoach Oct 30 '24

Eat butter, you may not need insulin

1

u/youtookmyseat Oct 31 '24

My dad was T2D on insulin so I grew up knowing nothing different. Lol I put my Lantus there now as well. 😅

1

u/Nargg Oct 31 '24

You shop at Costco/Sam's Club?

1

u/Jheritheexoticdancer Nov 01 '24
