Did you sit down and write any of your decluttering goals? What are some goals you have? Motivation Tips&Tricks

I don't necessarily have any goals just want to get rid of junk and declutter and be more minimal. I'm going to allow myself to have some things I like but limit them to a few instead of a bunch. I'm literally looking through my stuff and finding things I don't recognize. Some things that have been gifted to me over the years that are junk. At first I felt bad throwing them away. Then I thought you know I wouldn't be in this position if it wasn't given to me. I wouldn't have gotten it myself and no one around me wants them either. I want to give things away but this weekend isn't a good time and I don't want to hold on to these items with the idea that eventually I'll give them away.

In terms of setting goals, the thing that helped me most was Marie Kondo’s advice to visualize your ideal life and how you want your home to be. She also encourages you to draw out what that looks like. It gave me something concrete to work towards.

When I brought that drawing to life, I can’t express how proud and emotional I was. I actually did it. That was many years ago now, but I still get that feeling when I look at the specific space that was once only a drawing.

Oh I love lists and writing things down, both on paper and in messages to myself. It helps slow my thought process down to a coherent murmur so I can plan my attack! Checking things off is satisfying and then I can see patterns of behavior and address the root of the issue, such as routines I could improve or sources of clutter itself.

I do have a goal to downsize, but not a definite target date. However, this bigger goal is motivating me to prepare. I started by making a checklist of smaller areas within my home and just try to tackle 1-2 per day. This can be 1 kitchen cabinet, 1 shelf, 1 box. Just break it into smaller things that you can tackle in an hour or less.

Also, I'm really getting into youtube videos for ideas: Check out Dana K White for methods that are less intimidating and Seve for minimalism.

I love Dana K White and listening to her book Decluttering at the Speed of Life has been the BEST thing to keep my motivated! She really does have amazing ideas and little sayings that made little light bulbs go off in my head that could get me over a lot of decluttering issues (especially the container concept, we have a small house so I repeat that one to myself a lot! It just makes so much sense!)

The first step for konmari is to come up with your ideal life. All I came up with was to be able to move graciously through life at home. It was a worthy goal.

No more panic attacks because I couldn't find stuff, no more 10 minute stuff everything in the closet when somebody comes in the house, no more piles of clean laundry and piles of dirty dishes. And it happened.

Decluttering did much of this but life is definitely better now that I've got a better routine for laundry, dishes and so on.

I think of the goals as the outcome of the decluttering process. I want to easily find the outfit I'm looking for. I want to cook in a clean and spacious kitchen. I want to be proud of my house when friends come over.

Same. I hate having people over because there's stuff all around. I started to declutter yesterday and plan to keep going until it's all done. I'm taking it slow but I'll get there. I just want a clean, cute, decluttered apartment that I'm proud to have people visit

I use a bullet journal so I have a few pages dedicated to decluttering. I wrote down all the main spaces in my home and my goal is to do a pass through all of them this year.

Today I tackled the bathroom vanity and threw out a lot of stuff. I don’t go in any particular order but just what I feel like doing.

My decluttering has arrived in waves and in layers, and the goals have arrived the same way.

I haven’t written this done but these are my goals I want to limit how many clothes I have, I want to get rid of a lot of my books. I also want to get rid of makeup, perfume, body wash and body lotion. I also want to get rid of a lot of things I don’t need or use.

My goals are simply to keep up with something daily. I have two small children who bring in so much clutter that i can’t stop or we’d be overwhelmed…

I don’t usually write things down as specific goals. If a particular room gets bad, we might talk it out and be goal oriented on a weekend. I mostly want clear surfaces and easy to clean spaces. The stuff of every day life gets me though!
