He’s part of a much larger group that comes every day- love seeing how dramatic this is! Their swoops and glides are so beautiful.

Really sad we haven’t seen her/him return this year. This is a photo from 2023. This community is awesome and wanted to make sure that I shared this photo.

If it matters at all, I'm in rural Minnesota.

All I know about this sorta thing is that it can help to give them a platform, they like peanuts, and I've heard that you can deter other animals from taking the peanuts by coating them in chili powder, but I'm not 100% sure about that one.

No particular reason I want to do this other than I like crows and ravens, and the idea of befriending a wild animal is cool.

We've been feeding a family at work daily for over a year; we have a dedicated drawer full of unsalted peanuts in the shell. They stopped coming around in early November; I wondered if they had migrated south. (We're in Victoria, BC.)

On Wednesday my bus to work was detoured; as I walked down an unfamiliar street near work, two crows above me made a loud fuss. They'd fly to a light standard and wait until I passed by, then fly to the next one. I kept looking up at them in case they recognized me.

I had a handful of nuts in my pocket so I threw them down and continued to work. They followed me and we fed about 10 of them. It looks like they're back! (One is really fearless when we open the door; we think it's Jimmy from last year.) 😊

These poor guys were fighting with sea gulls who stole a piece of food out of one crow's mouth. I told them I would be back with food and bought a container or peanuts which i poured out. Lol there's like a pound. It felt kind of magical when all of these ebony shiny birds immediately flew over (they sent out the caw caw to all of the bromies in the vicinity). I prayed the sea gulls wouldn't fly over and they did stay away.

I put out a lot of peanuts today for my neighborhood blue jays and crows. This was the only decent video I got of one searching after the snow picked up.

A literal breadwinner

I've been trying to befriend the crows in my estate (and also magpies) so I put out dog kibble and a hard boiled egg (in shell without the yolk because my dogs ate it lol) and they took it!! I don't think they like the egg though so I'll try when it gets warmer so it doesn't freeze lol. They liked the dog kibble and I saw them on the box where I put it!! I was walking into my kitchen and a magpie was on the box!!! Any recommended food would be welcomed seeing as I can only really give them dog kibble right now lol. (Fyi I only started feeding them yesterday!! :-D)

One of my favorite things about living in downtown PDX - seeing and hearing thousands of crows fly into the city to roost in the trees at dusk

back when a crow was walking with a limp and hiding so i freaked out and gave it an egg cause the internet said they considered it a delicacy. it camped near a bush for the rest of the night. i think the extra protein helped.
