Hello, I'm really new to this i just had a thought and wanted to give it a shot. The squirrels in my area are brutal so I built a post to put food out. I used some scrap wood and I'm not a builder guy, it's solid but not pretty. Concrete base, it couldn't hold me up but it could hold a fat racoon if one got up there. I have crows in my neighborhood but none specifically come around my yard. I get all sorts of birds, I'm sure they've been by but no regulars. I started with peanuts and some other seeds, no go. Added dog food, and a scrambled egg.
I heard one today from the other room! When I ran to the garden window there was nothing.
I'm trying :( I don't think it's the weather it's cold here in MI but they're around. Any advice is appreciate.

it took me nearly a year (2times ish a week) of using the same call "Hey crows!" to get the 4 in my neighborhood to recognize and become semi friendly to me. It takes time. Now if they are anywhere within earshot I can call out and summon them

Thank you! Maybe theyre shy. I had some dark eyed juncos come by and snatch some of the egg.
So I dont need to CAW when i put food out I could just say hey crows or something like you did right? lol ive been cawing and im sure my neighbors think ive lost it (more than i already have)

I used to greet mine by saying, “Hi, guys” when I was putting their food out.

Thank you! It's a cool story too! I got it working at a historical military base in my city that's now a museum type place. I was working in the army corps area of the base and asked if I could pick some rocks from the excavation pile (you can see I do that a lot), and a worker asked if I wanted this statue. It was unpainted but a worker drew devil horns on it. At home I was pondering what to do and my beekeeper mentor came by and goes "Hey, that's Pan!". So last winter I decided to paint him up properly, and my teacher gave me horns from a 7 pointed buck to attach to it. That part was nerve wracking I only had one shot if I fucked it up the whole statue would be fucked.
Anyway thank you! We love him he's the guardian of the garden. He has a few more minions around, but hopefully he can help attract a few crowbro sky watchers :)

Any hawks hang out near your house?
There are some crows in my neighborhood and I've been trying to feed them for a couple of years with only minor successes.
Most recently when they were eating the peanuts the hawk that hangs out in our backyard swooped at them, seems like that might be keeping them away in my case at least.

I feel your pain. Currently, I'm getting rid of an overly (non nest defending) territorial mocker who has been chasing everyone away from the feeder, but aside from that, my neighborhood crows have at least seen me with peanuts. That's the first part that matters the most with corvids- as long as they see you and food, they'll know. It may still take them a while to visit, but the connection is there lol. You're not doing anything wrong based on your post!
