They came!!!! Personal Story

I've been trying to befriend the crows in my estate (and also magpies) so I put out dog kibble and a hard boiled egg (in shell without the yolk because my dogs ate it lol) and they took it!! I don't think they like the egg though so I'll try when it gets warmer so it doesn't freeze lol. They liked the dog kibble and I saw them on the box where I put it!! I was walking into my kitchen and a magpie was on the box!!! Any recommended food would be welcomed seeing as I can only really give them dog kibble right now lol. (Fyi I only started feeding them yesterday!! :-D)

Congratulations on your beginning friendship!! Unsalted peanuts, shelled or unshelled, are my go to food for crows. scrambled eggs are a treat too! Looking forward to your updates! :)

Thank you! Next time I go to the shop I'll try to get some shelled peanuts, if I can't find them do they mind unshelled?

They often don’t mind and might even enjoy it if you put out some water to go with it. They’ll sometimes use the water to soften the shells. They’re incredible problem solvers and seem to really enjoy it!

Thanks for the tip! Any idea on how to keep it from freezing over in the winter? It's really frosty and cold here right now lol

Oh right, forgot you mentioned the frozen egg. Probably save that one for warmer temps. Welcome to your new obsession!

Mine always cracked the shells with zero problems. Cries, magpies and blue jays all like them

Unshelled is fine

Scrambled eggs. No waste, and the squirrels don't touch 'em.

They can be unshelled but still need to be unsalted.

They like egg yolk! Not the whites so much

I'll keep that in mind for next time I have eggs, thank you!

I am in the scrambled egg camp. They do not eat the whites in hard boiled near me.

I used to feed dry dog kibble. I’d lay it out in a big ring shape so the most crows could get to access it at a time. I loved watching them and learned so much from them. I also had a big magpie who learned to Hang on one of those little square suet feeders! It took a few tries and after that she was a regular at the suet feeder!

We originally got it when we adopted my dogs (senior Chihuahuas lol) and they don't like the almost kilogram of dog food we got them so I might as well use it for the birds haha!
