Keeping multiple species?

I’ve got a small “monarchy” of rusty crayfish. I wanted to breed The Queen with another species of crayfish, or at least keep one or two in the tank— it’s huge, and they never interact with each other. Plenty of food for everyone. Is this safe?

My sweetest CPO girl Grizabella (last two pics) died over Thanksgiving, presumably of old age. She’d been slowing down for a while and eventually hid away to molt and never came back out. Losing her was surprisingly hard, but it finally felt right to get a new crawfish, so yesterday I went to the LFS and picked up this new stripy baby.

RIP, Grizabella. You were so amazing I can’t imagine not having a crawfish now. I’ve kept fish for many years and loss is always part of that, but she was one of the ones that will stick with me.

And welcome home, new nameless stripy girl! Tentatively a girl, anyway—she’s so tiny right now it’s hard to tell lol. She’s barely bigger than a cherry shrimp! I can’t wait to watch her grow!

What types of enrichment do electric blue crayfish like?

I've started cycling a 29 gallon for an electric blue crayfish. I've got two caves available and some dragon stone. No fake plants, obviously no real ones. There's a lot of space still available.

I'm mulling over a couple of things:

  • A 3D printed dome ball with enough infill that it'll sink but still be "tossable" (using PETG). I can also use them as "treat" balls by stuffing them with spinach or veggies when it gets larger.

However, what else do they like? A climbing structure/jungle gym type thing? Do they want to climb rocks over objects? Do they want to climb at all?

These white spots appeared on my crayfish recently, I believe I haven’t seen them before or atleast not enough to raise concern to make a mental note. was just wondering if anyone knew what these are and if it’s some sort of parasite or WSSV thanks !

Photo Introducing Mr. Feexins

Hello,

Just wanted to show off this crayfish that I've been raising for about 6 months now. I call him Mr. Feexins because I love Danny McBride and despite the fact that I haven't sexed them yet. But I have really grown to love Mr Feexin's passion and ingenuity for landscaping, and they're devious personality. I'm pretty sure that they are a Variable Crayfish.

They were unfortunately in this previous post where I learned that they had a serious skin condition:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Crayfish/comments/1hjoauo/pre_molt_or_something_bad/

But I'm happy to report that it seems to be totally cleared up and Mr. Feexins has molted and gone back to moving gravel around and munching on stuff.

Two female thunderbolts and one had babies!

Hi everyone!

We’ve had two female Thunderbolt crayfish since September, and something surprising happened today… one of the females is carrying live babies! We’re confused because from what we’ve read, Thunderbolt crayfish aren’t supposed to be asexual.

When we saw the babies, we quickly moved her to a separate tank with lots of hiding spots. We’re not sure what else to do, so we’d really appreciate any advice or tips!

The first two pictures are of the mom with her babies, and the other three pictures are of our other female crayfish.

Thanks so much for your help!

Fertilized eggs

So I’ve had my electric blue crayfish now for a few months and I noticed a week ago or so that she became berried. I know they produce eggs on their own but I was wondering if anyone ever had fertilized eggs from a pet store? I know the chances are low but I’ve noticed one egg start to turn orange-ish so was just wondering what others experience was. Thanks!

Is there a list of illegal crayfish for California?

All I can find are a couple old forum posts asking about dwarf crayfish specifically. But I would like to find any kind of list that contains all crayfish that are illegal in the state.

Noticed that aquatic arts now doesn’t distribute cherax to California, and it got me curious as to what ones were specifically not allowed here.

What should I do to ensure the female does well with her pregnancy. Should I separate her into another tank? She’s in a community tank. I have a 5 gallon shrimp tank also.

Pet Rip Mr Pinchy

He now Sits On Plant in the sky..rip Mr Pinchy, you never actually pinched me. Had him for almost 2 years and got him as a full grown adult, so he probably lived to almost 4 years old! I feel awful, we had to do a trash chute funeral as its way too cold and snowy outside. I couldn't handle seeing his limb body any longer but I regret not doing anything more special for him. I cried so much last night, yes he was a crayfish, but he had so much personality and I loved seeing him. Now my tank is empty

Just what I think my lone female cray is thinking while I filmed this. It was actually raining nano pellets.
