Worst repairman experience ever through this sub. Be careful with this guy
I wanna start by saying I understand its a risk to try and do mail-in repair with a stranger on reddit so I shouldn't be too shocked. But this is the most unprofessional and just overall awful experience I've ever had with an online seller and hes very active in this sub so I want to warn people. He WILLINGLY responded to my post offering me his repair services when I said I needed 7(?) psp's fixed. These are fixes that even I could finish all in one day as an amateur (screens, buttons). He confirmed he got my consoles, sat on them for TWO MONTHS (!!!!) and blamed a bunch of life problems. I was EXTREMELY patient and understanding regardless. After 2.5 months, I told him to just send me my shit back. He once again just held it for another 1.5 months now without sending it back, and EXPECTS ME TO PAY SHIPPING, with no other explanation other than he's "busy". The only reason I don't believe this guy is just a full on scammer is because its clear from his page and photos that he sent me that he does indeed do repair. I wouldn't be surprised if he lost my shit and just is scared to tell me or something. But either way its horrifically unprofessional and I'm out 7 consoles. PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

Even if they only did one a week they should still be done. I know life happens but that's not really acceptable. They should have at least told you they would need way longer and asked if you wanted them shipped back since he couldn't fulfill his part of your agreement.

u/NoCommon5212 1d ago
Exactly this is my issue. I understand life happens, a delay wouldnt bother me, im an internet seller too so I understand. But you NEED to communicate. And even other than that, at a certain point its obvious that hes just bullshitting and thinks im an idiot

u/Historical-Agency635 1d ago
Red flags instantly "sorry needed to vent" "bluh bluh this happened, so busy rn but can sent you a full breakdown of jobs an excuse why it's not done, I could go on, I hope this guy sees it and either fixes you up or gets banned from this subreddit

I understand being super busy but damn. Don't accept more work than You can handle. And if You do and realise it's too much, just return everything to the client as soon as You can. I hope You get Your stuff back man. All the best! And I'm sorry.

Lost your shit? Bro... he straight up sold your shit. Those consoles are gone.
Life DOES happen. But not for 4 months straight. If he quoted you a one week turn around and had a FAMILY MEMBER DIE, he still could get them back to you in another week or two. Period. This is 4 months. 4 MONTHS.
It's people like the dude your dealing with that give us all a bad name (us small time folks who aren't well known).
I had someone in need of an N64 repair. Really wanted to help the dude out, offered to do advanced microsoldering / repair for basically nothing. I've never heard back. I don't blame them really... because of shit kickers like the one you ran into.

u/NoCommon5212 22h ago
Well said & nice of you to offer your service to that person in that way!
People do tend to be cautious both because its the internet and because of examples like these, but dont worry
Stack up good reviews and vouches (and keep records of them), get in with the right people and places, and you'll be trusted as often as you need to be! If people miss out on it or are skeptical, it is what it is, you tried.
Best of luck !!!

Thank you. And sorry you got taken advantage of / stolen from.
Sad what people have to resort too these days.

u/HotOrange8238 1d ago
You should still report him to save others going through of the same shit because not everyone could afford to lose consoles like yourself.

Hello,
No.
Thanks and have a good one!

With that attitude i now feel you deserve what you got.
27
u/Silvabro 21h ago
Seriously. I'm confused as to why the dude suddenly won't report a scammer but did a callout post. Like do you or do you not want the scammer to stay active?

u/NoCommon5212 1d ago
I dont really give a shit how you feel about anything

I'm not here to be the perfect victim or get sympathy
Im here to warn people because the person in my post frequently uses the sub and probably does business with a good amount of people on herep
So yes i couldnt care less who thinks I deserved what. Their approval of me or my situation means nothing
If that makes me a dick then ok

Sorry to hear about your experience. It makes me a bit nervous - that guy has one of my PS5 controllers for repair. Yes, it's been awhile - going on two months. However, his communication has been pretty good. Hoping I get it back and I would love to pay him. So far, I have no reason to believe that he is not going to do what he said he was going to do, ship my controller back and then I will pay him. I'm hoping that's how this goes.

If heās so busy he should put you in line instead of keep skipping over
8
u/L3gendaryBanana 23h ago
Thats a crazy timeline. If I get overloaded with orders and an order takes a week I get anxious and wake up extra early or go to bed late in order to get caught back up. Months of waiting is insane.

u/themessiahcomplex78 8h ago
From his post/comment history, he thinks he's the shit. I don't expect him to own up to any of his mistakes. At least if he owned up for the above and repaired & sent back the consoles, he could redeem some of his reputation. At the moment, it's heavily smeered. Not good if he still wants income from this.

u/redditsuckspokey1 1d ago
I shipped a bunch of snes boards to someone to fix and they all disappeared 50 miles from the person's address. Like the tracking just stopped.
I still have all the console shells but they aren't in great shape. This was 2 years ago when I had just gotten into repairs and still didn't know how to do even the simplistic items. I think I lost around $600. It really sucks but I did learn my lesson. DIY. Learn first on stuff you don't care about. Then start diy. If you get good enough you could start flipping for a small profit.
6
u/Lizzycraft 20h ago
Yeah this guy is full of shit and scamming you. I'm a console repairer as a hobby and I still get customers' stuff back to them as soon as I possibly can. Only if I'm waiting for parts would I take longer than 2 weeks.
11
u/will-work-for-tacos 1d ago
Where's his soldering iron for that modchip install? Also from his post history he seems to be clueless as to how to do anything.
6
u/lalalalandlalala 1d ago
Itās next to the helping hands, itās the Fanttik T1 Max that gets advertised a lot. No idea if itās any good, I only recognize it and know its name but know nothing further. Iād suspect it may be a generic product that you can find other different names.
2
u/will-work-for-tacos 1d ago
Ok, just assumed that was an electronic screwdriver.
1
u/mchamp90 8h ago
Thereās an electric screwdriver from Fanttik too next to the āsoldering ironā so I see how it would be easy to confuse. The portable iron is honestly a joke for any serious work that needs to be done. If dude is actually a console repair guy, he should have the right equipment to get the job(s) done.

u/Some_Ebb_2921 1d ago
I think the soldering iron is just out of field of view. He does have the tips and solder there, looks like from a general chinese (wish or same sort) online store... I use the same material, is why I recognize it :p.
3
u/will-work-for-tacos 1d ago
Looks more like the two required screwdriver bits not attached to the driver to me.
1
u/Some_Ebb_2921 1d ago
Hmmm, you might be right about those. The solder tube is in the picture though. That's the one that comes with Wish starter kits... and if he's still got this much left, I wonder how much experience he actually has

Yeah homie that shit's gone. File a police report and or take them to small claims court. You should at least have their name and address if you shipped to them to have them served. I've had to do it once for something that costed $500. Dude was giving me the run around but when that court paperwork showed up to his house he contacted me to work it out real quick.

u/Hychus232 18h ago
This is partly why I donāt want to offer my services: Iām scared if all of my lifeās walls started crashing down all at once, would I even be able to return someoneās incomplete equipment? Stuff getting lost in shipping is also massively worrying.
While we donāt know the full extent of the repair guyās story, itās still real suspicious and i definitely wouldnāt bring him any more service. Hopefully you can find someone better suited in the future
1
u/AdamAtomAnt 17h ago
That has been my mentality. So what I started doing was just buying and modding consoles then selling them online. But that's also a piss poor idea, because other sellers online are assholes and report competition. I've been banned on Etsy even though I didn't break any ToS. So that idea is out. Once my eBay stuff is gone, I'm done.
So really, you have to develop a good reputation online where people know you'll take care of their stuff. Also, don't let people ship anything to you until you're ready for it. If you miss the business, oh well.
2
u/Hychus232 6h ago
I respect that hustle. I used to do something similar myself.
I used to buy broken computers, game systems, and phones locally and from thrift stores, repair them, and sell on eBay. I was netting $400/month at my peak. The problem is that eBay does not have a care in the world for their sellers. Once I had a buyer say he did not receive a smartphone from me, tracking showed it arrived, eBay sided with him, I lost the pay and the phone, and through eBay's relationship with Paypal, my Paypal was permanently closed. To this day, that was my only negative feedback.
eBay's fees are always going up, to the point where there really isn't a point if you aren't full-time or are getting your inventory for nearly free. And with thrift stores and FB sellers getting informed, charging more for their old junk, the profit margins are minuscule. I still have some stuff left over that I'll list if I get around to it, but I'm not interested in returning to my former "glory."
Of course, I will still help friends and family, and if I see something rare and broken, I'll grab it to fix and add to the collection. Otherwise, I'm out.

Changing the screen on a psp is like 15 mins of work . The price actually is very fair but idk why it takes him so long
2
u/odyodense 15h ago
Don't you love it when they say they aren't doing it on purpose or intentionally, like they had no control and it's an accident that just happened.
If he hasn't got time to work on it he should just stay up longer and work longer. It's not hard.

If you could do them in a day yourself, as an established seller like you said...why with that reputation would u be on a subreddit willing to ship consoles to a singular person you know actually nothing about? That's on you, I'd never trust someone straight from a reddit like to send things in to. Absurd.
Doing that many sales and doing that type if consistent business your not hurting to take the time to do them yourself when you can.
I'm on your side with what dude is doing. It's the worst scummiest ppl that do this.
I can see a pure amateur doing this. That's about it
1
u/Human_Wasabi_7675 18h ago
This pisses me off because there are actually honest people who do repairs and finish them in time and we get asshole like these that fuck up the trust in the repair community.
1
u/Pretend_Fun_1272 17h ago
No, i bet hes not a repairman and just a plain old thief. Thats a good quality about ebay for example: theres a vetting process for 1, and they have all your info for 2, and any communicating thru the app provides the victim with ample evidence to support whatever fit they wana throw
1
u/Weary_Time7715 16h ago
Sadly this is always a risk when sending your items to strangers on reddit, If I really had significant dark period in life I would just fix it for free as I value my reputation more than anything, Ive lost money countless times during dark periods in my life dealing with depression and ADHD (Completely bed ridden for days on end). Reputation is absolutely everything in this field of work, he fucked himself and has put a permanent stain on his reputation within reddit.
1
u/damngros 15h ago edited 15h ago
How can you even consider sending your stuff to a random Reddit guy at the first placeā¦ his Ā«Ā workbenchĀ Ā» looks so cheap that it sure is no real repair shop. I bet he broke a few of your consoles trying to fix them.
1
u/microsoldering 12h ago
I aim to get all consoles finished in 7 days. Sometimes shit happens and it ends up being 14, but 95% of the time its 7 days, and i only work 1 day a week.
I did once almost die with a massive backlog and end up months behind though. And at that point i was doing 18 hour days 7 days a week. People werent sending me death threats. Its easy to bite off more than you can chew. If thats what happened, the guy needs to stop accepting work.
FIFO. The people who have waited the longest need to be prioritised

Heās doing all this with a portable fantik iron???? I think thatās another nail in the coffin to the unprofessionalism. Guy doesnāt have a āworkshopā as he called it.
So sorry you have had to put up with this. Also puts a sour taste in others that are hesitant to send in their repairs to a person here that offers their services. Makes it much harder for the legitimate ones. ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
I hope you get your stuff back!
1
u/3687437897 5h ago
That sucks man, iv learn to never trust anyone anymore. If I want or need something done I'll do it myself even if I don't have experience or the equipment I'll try. If I fuk it up I fuk it up, it is what it is.
1
u/Androxilogin 5h ago
Looks to be a piece of shit. A typical person repairing things puts a project on the backlog for a day and feels guilty about it. I would absolutely not do business with someone on Reddit. Not unless they have a legitimate store link and the item were extremely rare at a good price, at least.
1
u/KissMyChancla 4h ago
As someone who is a trusted chip installer in multiple groups for the Switch space this legit makes me frustrated. I'm sorry this happened to you, we have all had things happen that were unexpected and you're even understanding of the situation but he kept using that excuse over and over again. Scumbags like this shouldn't even be allowed in the modding/repair space.

Thanks,
I didnt like the implication that im somehow morally obligated to report it as if this post wasnt enough or something, and that if I dont go on a whole crusade against this guy and spend time and effort contacting authorities who will almost surely not care even a little that im somehow wrong (Imagine being a cop and getting a call from someone across the country that some guy MIGHT have stolen 5 broken consoles from the early 2000's, sent in from another state through the internet)
He wasn't necessarily wrong, and I could've been kinder. But I just wanted it to be clear that I wasn't even gonna entertain that idea and that I don't much care if people think im in the wrong for it, and that I wasnt gonna explain myself for the sake of peoples perception of me, because im mostly just here to warn others
1

This is why I only take on repairs for people who already know me. My life does get in the way a lot and my repair work only funds tools and my own projects. I just do commissions and bill when itās boxed up.
