π¬ Discussion π¬ What is your most left-leaning and right-leaning opinion?
For the record, I consider myself a Modern Liberal (closer to people like Cory Booker and Joe Biden). But sometimes consider myself a mix between a Modern Liberal and a Social Democrat like from Germany (but closer to a Modern US Liberal).
My most left-leaning opinion is that I think we (America) should eventually get to a single-payer system (and yes, M4A is different than classic single-payer). Probably start with nationalizing Medicaid.
My most right-leaning opinion is that Israel wants peace, I support them over Palestine by a long shot and while I think a two-state solution would probably be the fairest option, I'm starting to think a one-state might be the only possible option. I don't know if that counts as a "right-wing opinion" (even though the right is more pro-Israel than the contemporary left), as I support Israel for other reasons such as them generally supporting peace, being our ally, the injustice from the Palestinian side and (basically and historically) Palestinian leadership not being open to peace.
If that doesn't count as "right-wing", my most right-wing opinion would be on guns. I don't think there should be many restrictions on guns, I generally disagree with the left's views on guns, don't support an AWB, support the 2A and think that most people should be able to own guns as people can turn their lives around (unless it was a crime of violence involving a firearm).
What are yours?

π¬ Discussion π¬ What is the center-left?
Me and another user seem to have a disagreement over what the definition of center-left is.
One person believes the center-left is about βbread-and-butterβ economic issues like anti-trust laws and building factories, infrastructure, lowering deficit. The part of the Venn diagram where two parties intersect. It is inherently bipartisan by default, meaning you have βcommon sense common groundβ conversations with republicans and actually pass laws.
One person believes the center-left is about βsocial justiceβ issues like LGBTQA+ representation, ending gender pay gap, police reform and the neo-liberal free trade. Not full blown communism, but more of a social-democrat vibe.
Are there multiple definitions of the center-left? Social vs economic vs political compass
What is the difference between center-left and progressive left? How does one occupy the center?
Who are notable politicians of the center-left?
How does the defeat of Kamala Harris impact this definition and future of the center-left?
Happy thanksgiving! Hope your family political discussions are robust and informative. π«‘

π¬ Discussion π¬ Why does Trump see himself as some sort of Manifest Destiny president?
Between invading Mexico to buying Greenland /Panama Canal/Canada to being a non-consecutive term president to imposing tariffs, there's definitely a 19th century theme going on over here. What's the deal?

π¬ Discussion π¬ Classical liberalism was globalism 1.0. In 1972, neo-liberalism became globalism 2.0. In both 2016 and 2020 elections, America voted against globalism 2.0. What is globalism 3.0?

π¬ Discussion π¬ How to respond when called a hypocrite for saying my issue with many Republicans is that they judge and negatively impact others? ("But you're judging them for their views")
The title, but more info: my partner could probably best be described as center-right. I'm center-left, but when we met 15 years ago, I was center-right. We live in an area that is predominantly republican.
We were driving the other day and passed a Trump rally-- trucks with flags, signs, the whole thing. I said I wanted to get away from the rally and that while I support people voting for the politics that matter to them, I don't understand how someone could support and idolize a PERSON who is so hateful. He responded that I was being hypocritical-- I don't like Trump/most exuberantly Trump supporting people because they don't accept other people for who they are, but that's exactly what I'm doing when I say they're wrong for their views/actions on women, POC, or lgbtq+ people.
My feeling is that it's different, because mine is a personal opinion expressed only to trusted individuals, whereas theirs is policies, laws, actions, and very publicly stated opinions that directly negatively impact the lives of others. But it kind of comes back because in the end I do really support laws that restrict their public expression of their (imo bigoted) opinions.
But I'm not particularly good at arguing, and he is.
So! What are your thoughts /how do you respond?
