Learning how to take photos on 35mm film, underground.
galleryPast year I've been shooting film underground learning all the unique challenges it presents, I've found with film the depth and texture of the photos are a lot more personal than on digital, though way more tricky to get a steady shot with out an enormous flash or long exposure. Also recommended to have a detached flash otherwise most pictures look pretty flat .

In need of advice for caving for the first time
Caving has never been something I thought I would be interested in; however, I found out that there is a cave system in an area near me that I thought was a beyond boring place. I have only found an old map of it and its entrances and have a general idea of where it would be. How do I get permission to go, how do I prepare to go caving, how many people should I bring, I really just need to know as much as possible because It is so amazing to know something like that exists near me and I feel the need to explore. Thank you.

Cave or mine?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Found in a park in North Ga. There’s a secret side trail to an old mining location for iron, however I’m pretty sure the iron was just mined open pit style (surface mining technique). So now I’m confused, is this hole in the earth part of a closed mine system or did they run into a cave while digging into the side of the hill. I didn’t go in the mine/cave because I was alone, however based on dirt patterns it looks like people have entered or atleast walked up to this thing.
Does anyone know if this appears like a mine/ cave/ or some sort of sinkhole. Found another similar hole about 100 feet away from this one right after. The location of this is literally right on the edge of limestone geology deposit stuff. So like maybe its a natural cave??
Juvenile Leptoneta spider from a cave in the Southern Alps. The Leptonetidae are typical cave spiders and can be easily identified by their blue iridescence.

What is everyone's thoughts on the CT Brilock Gate carabiner design? Good for cows tails? What other CT 'biners are good for cows tails?

anyone know this near cave exploration accident?
hello all! this is my first time in this sub, but i recently discovered that a (seemingly) well-known near-accident during cave exploring actually involved my uncle. if anyone can match these details to the incident, i'd be so grateful! i have no idea when it was, but maybe somewhere in arkansas? it was supposed to be three friends that were to go exploring a cave, but two got there early and decided to head in by themselves (one of them was supposedly my uncle). they only had a snickers bar between the two of them, and got stuck in the cave for a while because they kept going down instead of up to the surface. now, my dad might just be pulling my leg or my uncle (my dads older brother) might be pulling his. still, i'd like to know if anyone recognizes what incident this could be! thanks to anyone who replies

Is this Karst landscape?
I'm looking for caves in my home state, which is in a Karst Belt. I've found this formation, but I'm not sure what the likelihood of a system underneath it is. The rocks are vertical

Anybody in Florida looking for a partner?
I am new to this, Florida's transportation is pretty bad so it's hard finding a feasible way to get to a grotto without a car.

Etche Boot Sizing
Anyone (especially any other women) own these? I am seriously considering getting a pair but would rather not go through the trouble of shipping back and forth if I get the size wrong. How do they run? Large? Small? Narrow or wide? Any feedback on performance in cave?

Moldly film on lakes in Pepper Sauce Cave, Arizona.
youtu.beWhile doing research for the cave I've found some water test reports saying ecoli was present in the water, but no one mentions the thick layers of fungus present in all bodies of water, is this normal for the cave ? I've seen people swim in them which is unimaginable when I went haha.

Maryland Beginner
I'm a new beginner looking to start exploring some caves, but I'm finding it real hard to find groups or any kind of resources to get started. I'm open to groups in WV and PA too, anyone able to help guide me to some resources/groups?

Starting my vertical caving journey, gear advice needed
Hi all! Currently creating a list of gear needed, and so far I've settled on a few things but need advice on others.
For my seat harness, the MTDE Amazonia 2, with Petzl Omni (should I go screw gate or triple action?). For my descender, a rack, yet to be decided on. For the chest ascender, the one by CT.
The things I'm uncertain about is the hand ascender (plan on buying the Petzl foot loop), the carabiners for my cows tails, uncertain what is other biners might be needed. Also I'm stuck between the Garma and the Spelshoulder/Spelshoulder Pro for the chest harness. I'm quite tall at 6'3" if that makes a difference. Looking forward to any feedback or suggestions!

Little Friend in Petty Johns
Not typical to see too many bats with all the hustle and bustle of PJs but stumbled upon this guy (or lady) on a recent trip to emerald pool. Picture was taken with a higher zoom camera as to not disturb.

Question about material in caves
Recently this last week I’ve been really into watching cave exploration videos on YouTube. I tried to look up what is the glittery substance found in caves and I can’t seem to find anything online. I’m wondering if anyone can explain to me what this material is that I see covering rocks in some areas of caves that is very sparkly and glittery and what causes it to occur? I’m fascinated by these videos and am living vicariously through them:)
