From "I am going to do my best" to "I am going to do the bare minimum to keep the job". lol but kidding aside it happened to me in the corporate world when doing your best is being reward with more work with no additional pay or promotion. So after that it's the bare minimum.
30
u/GainMysterious2525 Aug 01 '24

u/Extension_Pitch7166 Aug 01 '24
That's true, tapos kapag super efficient ka ang ibibigay is additional work or more complex work.
3
u/repeat3times Aug 02 '24
The reward for doing a good job is more jobs. Lol
Hindi nirereward yung super efficient work. May time dati 4 hours e tapos ko na tasks for the day. So i had 4 hours na doing nothing.

Dati kasi nagbibigay ng raise mga companies when they see that you are efficient. Konting konti nalang ang ganun so better na hawak ko nalang ang magiging pay ko through a quota based commissions.

Climbing the corporate ladder. Being sipsip hoping to earn promotions and salary increase are all dead in 2024.
Stop going above and beyond. Do your job. Get home. Dont respond to calls after work.
Job hop, find a remote work. Thats how you increase salary these days.

Me! Dati sobrang ambitious ko sa work. But since pandemic at nagkatime magmuni-muni, narealize ko na life isnโt always about work/career and success isnโt defined by who you are or what level you are sa trabaho mo.
Kaya ngayon, from always excelling or going beyond what is being required from me sa trabahoโฆ I am just doing what really needs to be done. No pressure. Kasi naexperience ko rin na ginalingan ko pero dinagdagan work ko pero others na same level ko no stress hahahah.

u/Moonriverflows Jul 31 '24
I remember how I dreamed of being a team leader. Gusto ko talaga mag handle ng team. I eventually did and it was okay until just this year, I became a project manager.

u/haloooord Jul 31 '24
First 2 years from my first job (BPO), aspiring to become QA. Worked my way up, only to find out they are encouraging new hires and existing CSRs to lie their way to get good survey responses. At that point, why even come to work when everyone around you is basically committing fraud.

Ok na ko dito , just enough to pay bills, have a little savings and extra for small luxuries.

u/duh-pageturnerph Jul 31 '24
After 10 years of working sa current company, ganyan nararamdaman ko.
5
u/heydandy Aug 01 '24
Same haha. Hintay hintay sa separation pay. Shocks, no tax bayad agad condo ko nito. Makaka semi retire na rin if ever
4
u/Bungangera Aug 01 '24
And I am just 34! HAHAHA

Present โ. The system in the PH is to blame imo. High performance = Low pay = not worth it even if you are on managerial post. Only high ranking govt officials and of course the C levels in the private sector are paid justly. Now contented with jobs that require minimal stress/brain energy as well as trying to monetize my hobbies. Times have changed.
6
u/bintlaurence_ Jul 31 '24
Napagsasamantalahan pag masyadong magaling at enthusiastic eh. Dagdagdan trabaho, papagandahin title, pero same pay grade pa rin.

Happens when you realize that youre grinding hard to progress someone else's dream, not your own.
Happens when your hard work and initiative is not recognized and more importantly, not compensated.
Happens when you start feeling guilty or worried when utilizing your rights like taking leaves.
Happens when you get questioned to even utilize the leaves in the first place.
Fuck corpos

u/vlmirano Jul 31 '24
I can relate. I was even a candidate for promotion. But mental health issues due to a tragedy in the family manifested at a wrong time and got in the way. It was a slow burn, at the same time I was doing a lot thinking maybe if I can distract myself with work, things would get better until I'm all burned out. Then add relationship breakup to the mix and it was a recipe for a disaster.
Nawalan ng gana and pake. I just do my day to day tasks pero parang wala yung soul sa gawa ko, you get what I mean? Buti na lang I was given a chance and got back on my feet. Ngayon not naman walang pake pero more of chill lang muna while still performing.

u/bebs15 Jul 31 '24

ako I kind of do both ๐ performing to get regular salary increase/promotion, pero I do not do extra shit, go out of my way and do anything outside of my job description. I don't like kissing ass eh, but I like getting paid so I'm kind of in the middle. plus I want to have a comfortable life. note: comfortable, not rich rich.
mas loyal ako sa sarili ko and sa well being ko hehe once I sense toxicity and shit sa workplace, I pack my things and get out of there ๐
so win-win for me, I get increases while I'm in the same company, but I also get the benefit of job hopping which are better offers.

From "Gusto kong magpayaman" to "Gusto ko na lang matulog".
Iba yung drive pag medyo bata ka pa, but once the work took a toll on your body, dun mo lang marerealize na minsan hindi rin pala worth it. Ending: your body is not the same anymore.

What was once me seems to be not here.
I donโt judge myself that harshly naman I think.
Iโm still hopeful about me finding meaning and purpose again.
My way is relaxing and just give myself time to figure it out.
I know the quality I put out is good, itโs just that something happened and I have to know why.

Ang funny!pero ginagawa na lang natin katatawanan kasi life in general is too stressful to be committed to.
I used to give a fuxk like a lot.
Seek happiness, peace and balance in life.. walang mali sa ambition or to aim for the gold but when you feel life is too tough isipin mo hindi araw araw magiging ganun.
Bless us all breadwinners.

Nagpabida for 2 years tapos walang promotion but I was praised by the big bosses. Disillusion ang tawag diyan, it happens with love, work, money, and achievements (supposing hindi ka clinically depressed or may ADHD plus another symptom). There are different levels for each person. Those amount to 37% of the population, medyo lack of intrinsic discipline and grit ang dapat iblame. Then, there are people who HAVE grit and meet their goals, are time bound, methodical, and relentless, kahit bagyo sumisisid sa baha just for the sake of their personal goals and then they hit their goal, like saving 1M, buying a house, living a happy life with a retirement fund and a beach house. These people who tend to finish, experience naman their own version of this once they hit major life goals. They find it hard to realign and start again and fall into a cycle of not knowing what to do next. Pwede ring drugs, may mga functional addicts who take stimulants i.e. shabu to keep functioning at a high level, pag sobrang taas na ng tolerance ng katawan and no amount would satisy them anymore, thats the start of their downfall, which hits rock bottom pretty hard.

Present! During my first job, I already learned that the reward for every job well done is more work. No such thing as OT Pay - only OTY. Since then, bare-minimum worker nlng ako. You get what you pay for. No more going over and beyond for a job. Nag-oOT pa minsan-minsan but only if necessary talaga (like mag crash ang business operations). Otherwise, it is tomorrow's task na. Nowadays, achievable na ang work-life balance ko and less stress for me.

Baliktad for me. From corporate, i went to freelancing and digital/remote work gigs, mainly because of family circumstances. Nung natapos na mga problema, I immediately applied for traditional jobs.
Never gonna go back to pure freelancing. I still do freelance work from time to time, but only as a side income.

from may gusto akong patunayan, up to promotion happened and now everything is so fucked up.

Been in corp for almost 8yrs. and I experienced as well yung mga pangako ng high position or position na gusto ko talaga pero para makuha yun, I was offered to act as an intern for quite awhile then kaboom maghhire ng external for the position and back to same shit ako. Since then tinamad na ako then made a transition to freelance.
There are pros and cons siyempre pero I am somehow much happier right now compared before. Hahaha

Alam mo naman sa Pinas, the more na magaling ka, the more work without extra pay plus yung na promote yung kasama mong chill at sipsip, kasi daw hindi ka marunong mah socialize

Super. I'm a teacher. I'm hopeless.

u/Savings-Health-7826 Aug 01 '24
Yes, this is me. When i started, goal ko makapa yung trabaho and maging indispensable. Pero ngayon, I don't care if matanggal. I have brief periods na nakokonsensya and nagsisipag pag natatambakan na, pero madalas iniisip ko na i-let go ako.

me after being rejected for a new role by our ex-manager na kupal. gusto ko lang naman mag explore para mas marami akong matutunan about the products of our company kasi external hire ako. pero pinigilan nya yung career growth ko. and now that i feel stuck in my current role and i'm already emotionally resigned, bare minimum work nalang ako. since 2023.

Iโm the type of person who likes to climb the corpo ladder. I like the attention and recognition I get. They praise me for being a performer etc.
BUT. Just this year narealize ko na itโs all just words. After 2 years of working, di lang man inoffer sakin ang promotion and they opened the position so that internal and external yung mag apply. Syempre ayaw ko din mag apply since nakakahiya. Even if they are testing me.
After that, I started quiet quitting and am now looking for a job na malilipatan

10 years in, havenโt really related to it. To be honest though I donโt work to be at the top of the corporate ladder, I work to learn things and help out my good colleagues for the fun of learning their work.
Then either my good colleagues are gone or my growth is stunted I resign and move on to a different journey. I usually only join startups though because I consider corporate boring.

You guys actually wanted to climb?
Kidding aside, i never dreamed of such. I always knew having a high position would mean more stress even if the pay is high. My father (rest his soul) did great at his job even if it wasnt managerial and still got sick due to stress and eventually contracted cancer. What more a high position?
I might not dream big but i know ill be happier staying normal and enjoying my hobbies and life in general. The most i want to grow in my career is only up to enough for a peaceful life. Nothing more. Granted, capitalism and politics make life harder and harder everyday, but ill figure out a way.

im already at the top of the corpo ladder because we own a small biz and what i can tell you is, its not really worth it, at least in the philippines.
dealing with politicians, suppliers, etc
the bigger you get, the bigger they get
the harder you worker, the more money they earn.
I'm paying the government twice now, one for my salary, and one for my business earnings
(and we arent even earning that much)
for honest businesses to be truly big is impossible(almost). , you have to do a lot of shady things and deal with shady people. i have yet to hear the true story of the sys, the coquancos, the tan, the villars on how they amassed such wealth. sure magaling sila maghandle ng pera, kung dati may 1m sila, ngayon 100b na. pero they never tell the story in between.
example na lang yung mga outsourcing business na yan, na more than 10x kinukuha sa clients, tapos patak patak sa totoong nagtatrabaho. di mo sila masisisi, kasi sasabihin nila marami sila kailangan bayaran, at may lfiestyle sila na imamaintain(e.g. million dollar house, multiple super cars), bitches etc etc. you can bulild your own but you will never be in the same league as them unless you mimic their bad practices that earn them money.

I realized na hindi ako magiging manager after a few years of working in my current company because of 1 thing. Language barrier. Kaya I stopped aiming for the position but kept aiming for the pay ๐

me, lol i worked my way up from being a data analyst > training associate > senior trainer > senior team lead > account manager all because i was making up for being the only undergrad sa group of friends ko, that was the only way i could validate the FOMO. But after 5 + years of validating AND being responsible for people in the corporate world, i decided to just stop and leave, now i worked as a general VA and mainly focused on myself and my client. This has been the best Iโve felt in a long time. Sure lower pay but by God I can sleep peacefully and I do not have to think about other peopleโs problem anymoreโฆ

Currently ganyan un situation sa amin. Politics between the higher ups boiled over to the point na lahat kami anytime pwede masisante. Initially eager kami lahat to work. Pero lately, parang 'is it worth it?' un pakiramdam. Tangina.

I'm in this stage right now. I guess I learned to shift my focus more on my life outside of work, especially after 2022, what I can say is an unpleasant year. Plus, I'm at a point in my life where climbing up the corporate ladder isn't the priority anymore.
