If you got your bow from a shop, I'd ask them for recommendations. If you didn't get your bow from a shop, I'd find an archery pro-shop and talk to them. There are a lot of good options, but at this point, you don't need to worry about getting anything beyond just a solid carbon arrow. You can't go wrong with something like an Gold Tip Hunter XT or an Easton FMJ.

Don't worry about percent FOC or extra arrow weight. Assuming your arrows are average length (say 29"), a 100 grain broadhead, plus inserts, veins, and nock are going to put you around 400 grains in total arrow weight, which is plenty.

Get a dozen solid arrows. Become proficient shooting them.

Any of them with the correct spine and broadhead.

I just use the cheap Easton Hunter 6.5’s. I put a wrap and change the fletchings but that’s my hunting arrow.

Yeah these are solid and can recommend for a beginner hunting, I started with these a couple years back in the Easton 6.5 bowhunter 340 spine. They make 3 versions currently

Easton 6.5: BowHunter -these are the ones I started with, they are about $40-45 for 6 cut and glued and do the job good enough

Hunter classic - these are the middle ground and more true, my bow shop didn't carry these

Hunter match grade -these are what I upgraded too last season after getting low and busting all my bowhunters. These are very true arrows with upgraded AAE vanes but vanes are not as durable.

You can go down A TON of rabbit holes with arrows, if you want to. I personally buy Black Eagle pre-fletched, nothing fancy. I don't worry too much about FOC, arrow weight, etc. I just make sure the spine is appropriate for my draw weight/length, and I go hunt. They kill em dead just fine.

I used Easton axis 5mm this season. Been pleased. Accurate, less wind drift than my 6.5s I feel like

I’ve also noticed less wind drift since switching from GoldTips to axis 5’s. Thought maybe it was all in my head, glad to hear a concurrent opinion

If you go on the easton website, they have an arrow selection assistant. That being said, i have been using the easton 6.5s, Axis and FMJ are also popular ones but are more pricy

Whatever you tune for your bow.

Also a new hunter and my starting point is Gold Tip Hunter 300. There’s a chart on the back of the box for draw length/weight/arrow stiffness.

I really like the FACT weight system to get the arrow tuned for my draw length / weight without buying different field points / broad heads.

29in arrow
65lb draw
125gr sevr hybrid broad head
30gr weight added (20gr + 10gr)

To be brutally honest - I have been in a huge rabbit hole for about 4 months about what new arrows to get to increase penetration etc….

For the last 5 season I have used Bass Pro Specials. Cheapest on the shelf (blackout envy x5) and have knocked deer dead consistently.

By all means if your a gear nut get into it - I would recommend finding something that is easy to find off the shelf that is the correct spine for your bow because you ARE going to break some.

I have found that I have increased my results hunting when I found a system that worked stuck with and didn’t fix something that was not broken.

Go to the pro shop talk to the guy who knows what he’s doing and roll with it. Most archery shop guys are good.

Good luck. Welcome to the world archery 🏹

Stick with a reputable brand. Examples: Easton, Black Eagle, Victory, Gold tip, and Carbon Express, to name a few. The Easton 6.5's have been great for my needs and and a good price. I recommend buying a few different types and seeing which ones shoot best. Good luck.

black eagle rampage are what I shoot and great for the money. Around $200 for a dozen built at my shop.

I've ran Gold Tip hunter pros with the provided fletchings and inserts, they were accurate/consistent and common enough where I could find a box without much hassle if I really ran up shit creek during a hunt and needed to get a fresh set of arrows made.

Go to bow shop because they’ll likely have to cut the arrow to your draw length. I’m big fan of victory arrows and I used gold tip in the past also.

Victory RIP TKO, Black Eagle Spartan. Those are my choices. Black Eagle has a great sale on their site right now for older branded arrows. Just got a dozen shafts for $70 normally $160. Just make sure you get a properly spined arrow and make sure the ends are squared after cutting before installing inserts

This can end up becoming an obsession if you let it. There are easy answers here that some have provided - but if you want to get deep, look into some of the archery channels on YouTube that spend a lot of time talking about arrows and physics. Maybe start with Ranch Fairy. Good luck!

I just built some arrows. I got the Gold Tip Ted Nugent 400 spine and cut them to 28". They had fletching on them already; 2" raptx vanes. I added Gold Tip 50 grain inserts and plugged in my 100 grain Iron Will wide broadheads. I have no excuse if I miss or don't penetrate.

Pointy ones

Same thing I thought. Match your arrow to your bow and your broadhead to your arrow. This is like asking, "I'm going to start driving, what's a good car for the freeway?"

If this is the type of "help" you're going to offer why waste your time?

Some people just live every day to be a dick head.

Lots of people offering actual help, I chose to throw out an extremely light hearted and inoffensive joke. Not sure why that makes me such a "dick" like this other clown said. Yall need to touch grass.

6mm FMJs are the best

"FMJ" is an archery term as well? That's new to me. Does it stand for "Full Metal Jacket"? What does it actually mean? (I've only shot target recurve)

Yeah, they’re metal over a carbon core. They are heavier too, so it’s a good way to add arrow weight without inserts or outserts.
