Sounds like it's mocking the boomer in the comic to me?

Yeah it's implied that the grandpa is being intentionally bone-headed here

Like every time Big Nate is posted here, just because there's a boomer in the comic doesn't mean it's boomer humor, especially if it mock them

GenZ is shocked to discover that the creator of the comic they grew up with is actually a boomer. Cartoonist Lincoln Peirce was born in 1963, which makes him a boomer.

Some of his humor is boomer humor. But I concede the point in this instance he's making fun of the old guy having the boomer humor, and isn't necessarily being boomer himself.

But even in this instance he is still presenting it somewhat sympathetically and as a point of humor, otherwise he wouldn't have even included it in his comic strip.

This sub isn’t about posting any cartoon drawn by anyone born from the baby boom generation. It’s about making fun of a very specific art style and sense of humor. Plus Big Nate is a certified hood classic posting that here is like posting Charlie Brown here leave the legends alone

That’s passively funny, but not really. Seems like an average newspaper comic if those still exist
