My wife was out of town for work and a friend of hers had invited me to a party in his house. I knew what parties in his house were like, pizza, soft drinks and football talk. I really didn't want to go but I had no reason not to. Honestly I was dreading a boring night and spent the day trying to think of an excuse not to go but to no avail. My wife is always trying to get me to be more sociable and would have been very disappointed if I didn't go to her friend's party.

I was just getting ready to head out and get the metro to the other side of the city where he lives when I got a notification from HBO GO that Lemonade was now available. I called the friend and explained that a new Beyoncé visual album had just dropped and I couldn't possibly leave the house.

In my mind it was a perfectly socially acceptable reason to cancel plans and stay home. My wife did not agree but she isn't a Beyoncé fan.

I’m got chills reading this and then thinking about that night and all the days that followed when I rewatched and absorbed this. It was so very meaningful for me

Don’t at me, but this is when I started taking Beyoncé seriously. I grew up with DC and her solo work, so the love was there and thought she was a billboard top 10 artist. I assumed she just made bops for clubbing and parties. When a friend played Lemonade, while we were doing a late shift in our retail job, I loved it.

Same. Been a "casual" fan since DC. Lemonade changed the game in every way imaginable for the better.

Absolutely, yes. Lemonade feels like Queen in full control.

I remember this day so vividly. I had an event with a couple of friends to help launch a pole dancing aerobics studio and I had been telling them all week in the group chat that I would need to GTFO of there immediately when the event was over because Lemonade was premiering that night.

I left with just enough time to grab some dinner and wine, get home to walk my dog and shower then I was set up in the living room ready to watch with some online Bey fans because only one of my real life friends were a fan at the time and she lived too far.

I even remember what I was eating that night! I had queso and a southwest grilled shrimp salad and a glass of Pinot Grigio LMAO. I took forever to take my first bite because I was on the edge of my seat during Pray You Catch me and I remember having tears in my eyes and yelling at the tv “It’s ok Beyonce! It’s going to be ok!” when she was standing on the ledge of the building about to jump. My dog was so concerned for me! Lol

ahhhh memories

I was like 4 days postpartum, had PPD without realizing it, super hormonal, watching it, thinking… my husband is cheating on me. With zero evidence lmao

I was in college, sitting on my bed and watched it on my laptop.

I was out with my mom. She's from Minneapolis and grew up in the same neighborhood at the same time as Prince and was really affected by his passing. I took her to one of the movie theaters that was playing Purple Rain, which I had never seen before. We went to dinner after and were raving about what a magnetic performer Prince was when I got a text from a friend notifying me about the drop. We took dessert to-go and rushed home to watch. My mom was never a huge fan of Beyoncé and was actually on the "Beyoncé's overrated" bandwagon. That all changed that evening.

This is the album that made me into the Beyonce fan I am today!

I listened to it before I watched the film and I wish I'd done it in reverse!

An absolutely iconic release. I announced my split from my ex with a topless pic on Instagram with the caption being "🍋🍋"

Lemonading will always mean taking a baseball bat to your ex's belongings - either metaphorically or otherwise

I was on a team at college that coordinated concerts and I left my coworkers early during one the shows to go listen to her album 😅

I remember being so confused and excited, and just couldn’t believe how amazing her art is!

Purple Lemonade. Excited for the visuals, but we’d lost Prince that week 🕊️ 💜
