Ireland’s history of anti-semitism is deeper and more foundational than people think Discussion/Debate

Ridiculous claim. Ireland isn’t inherently antisemitic for being critical of Israeli actions in Palestine, and saying so diminishes real antisemitism.

Ireland’s neutrality in WWII wasn’t due to antisemitism. We had just come out of a war of independence and a civil war, and the famine—made worse by British mismanagement—was still in living memory. We were a new independent nation that wasn’t directly attacked. How could you justify to the masses fighting alongside Britain in one of the first major decisions since independence? For context, the U.S. stayed neutral until Pearl Harbor.

That said, neutrality didn’t mean inaction. 100,000 Irish fought with the Allies, and Ireland shared intelligence with them—not the Axis.

Ireland also doesn’t have a history of systemic antisemitism. Unlike most of Europe, there haven’t been major antisemitic incidents here, aside from the Limerick pogrom in the early 1900s, which Jewish-Irish politician Robert Briscoe called “an aberration in an otherwise almost perfect history of Ireland and its treatment of the Jews.” The 1937 constitution explicitly guaranteed Jewish rights, which was rare in Europe at the time.

As for De Valera sending condolences on Hitler’s death, yes, it’s fair to criticize. But it was a diplomatic formality tied to strict neutrality. Even Eisenhower sent condolences on Stalin’s death. Regrettable? Yes. Evidence of systemic antisemitism? No.

being against ethno-states does not make you an anti-semite.
being against nazi germany does not make you anti-german.

being against ethno-states does not make you an anti-semite.

It does if the only ethnostate you have a problem with is the Jewish one.

The problem is the only ethno-state the Jews are for is their own.

How do you explain Israel’s alliance with Ethiopia then? Its desire for a normalization deal with the entire Arab world including Saudi Arabia?

The entire Middle East are ethnostates

u/Grumbolaya 2d ago

Israel has no plans to leave the middle east alone, because if they did, they would have accepted the countless deals offered to them over the several decades of this conflict. Israel is absolutely committed to securing their own sovereignty at the expense of any and all other peoples'.

You know nothing of this conflict. Which deals please?

2

u/Grumbolaya 2d ago

I'd look them all up for you, but Google actually doesn't show results for Isreal's responses to these deals, so I can't give you date and time. Maybe you could use common sense though, and realize that a country with military and financial support from every single Western country in the world shouldn't have a problem finding a peace deal, unless you want to claim that Muslims are just incapable of being peaceful.

The Jews control Google huh?

You’re speaking very generally as if any country that wants peace can make peace. Iran, Hezbollah etc want to wipe Israel out. They don’t want peace. Palestinian leadership wants to replace Israel, not make peace with it. Israel has made peace with Arab countries in history, Jordan Egypt and more recently Abraham accords countries.

In fact Israel has done more peace deals with enemy countries in the last eight years than any other country on earth (Abraham Accords). And that’s before Oct 7.

You have no clue what you’re talking about.

How many non-Irish people live in Ireland (i.e. the Land of the Irish people)?

Hint: far less than the 20% Arabs who live In Israel and the 50% of Israeli Jews who come from the Middle East and Africa.

Is you consider the extremely diverse Israel to be an ethno-state then you most certainly must consider Ireland to be an entho-state.

Ireland is at least 91% White.

It took one stabbing incident there to trigger an anti-immigration riot in Dublin.

Ireland can fck off with their moralizing at extremely diverse Israel who has been dealing with ceaseless attacks from a neighboring enemy population since before its existence.

Israel is an apartheid state, they see palestineans as lesser than them and deny them the same rights as Israelis have. Not to mention the daily war crimes. If you criticize Hamas war crimes, then you have to criticize Israeli ones

1

u/just_another_noobody 2d ago

So you acknowledge that Ireland is an ethno state and now we are moving on to other bullsht?

1

u/Haleakala1998 2d ago

No, its not an ethnostate. Its also not commiting genocide

1

u/SuspiciousRelation43 2d ago

Oh nice it’s all the talking points. Tell me what kind of genocide makes the targeted population increase?

Ok, so you’re against Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Ireland, most African countries and others? And what is your remedy for “all ethnostates”, which you don’t like?

-5

u/seraph9888 3d ago

it's really bizarre to me that you think ireland is an ethno-state.
have a nice life!

So the only "ethnostate" you don't think should exist is Israel. Oh, amd Germany. Cute.

By any stamdards you'd regard Israel as an ethnostate, the same can be said of most countries not in the western hemisphere. Japan, Italy, Poland, Thailand, Finland- Name it.

So what standard are you using for why you regard Israel as an ethnostate bsides hearing other people say it?

The top 10 Muslim majority countries by percentage all have > 99% Muslims. Then they dip down to 98 at around 12th.

Israel is 72% Jewish. It's the only country in the region in which the Christian population is increasing. It's the only country in the region in which every religious and ethnic minority population is steadily increasing. They're disappeared or disappearing in every other country. Jews are in the disappeared category.

BUT - Israel is the ethnostate. None of the 250 Christian and Muslim countries and territories that take up 90% of the earth. Just the one Jewish nation. Funny that.
