I wanted a spice cake but didn’t want to use cream cheese frosting (as it usually pairs well) so I decided to give Russian Buttercream a try! Super easy, very smooth, happy with the outcome

Five year old's birthday cake request was for a rainbow cat cake - which was a big surprise!

He was really into Super Mario and Astro Bot. So, we thought he might want a more generic cake. Not the case!

He saw a picture online of a cake, and I thought to myself that I could imagine how it was made in stages. I like baking, but I've definitely never made anything this intricate. I decided I could try to do it. I had mostly modest resources so I wasn't sure how it'd come out, but he was very happy with it!

The eyes were supposed to be made of melted chocolate and be more cat like, but they broke upon peeling them off the wax paper.

He wasn't expecting it to be a rainbow inside, but he thought that was the most impressive part. I mean, it's definitely not perfect, but I didn't expect it to be so rewarding to make his birthday cake. It might become a yearly tradition.

Kind of a take on a Brooklyn Blackout cake for my husband’s bday! Black cocoa cake with black cocoa buttercream, filled with chocolate crème pat and chocolate chips, and topped with dark chocolate ganache. Took me roughly seven hours but his reaction was worth it 😂

I got sidelined by health problems and ran out of time to decorate the way I wanted to, which is still bumming me out, but I think I did the best I could with the time I had. And the best I could with cream-cheese frosting and no ability to freeze anything to get it smooth lmao

Aside from the sugar lace (and the candle), all decorations are fondant/gumpaste.

Neither of us bakes at all (i legit baked 3 cakes during quarantine only and i don’t think i’ve done anything before that) so this new bake off thing we got going on has been really fun.

Last month, I had a bunch of birthdays so decided to bake the same cake for all of them to practice and everyone loved it, it was Brigadeiro Cake.

my cake decorating is 🥲 but coffee sponge layers with chocolate ganache filling and coffee buttercream :D

Made this super yum pistachio cake But My buttercream starts melting with in few minutes. How do I fix it? Or how do I prevent it next time ?
