The Metaverse hype was great entertainment. The attention shifted away from AR during that time. Then AI came. And now AR is cool again. Until the next hype of whatever. And people will add whatever to the growing list of topics they are experts in :D

lol yeap… a ton of LinkedIn titles shifted away from “XR/Metaverse” towards “AI”… probably felt this more than most as I have been around that ecosystem for a while

Why do people - and especially tech journalists - have such an incredibly difficult time separating hype and bubbles from useful and real trends?

The metaverse stuff didn't live to the hype because meta showed off the Horizon World avatars out the gate. First impressions are everything. They should have been had the Codec Avatars as a focus like Apple did.

Yeah people don't get that we will still end up in the metaverse, it just won't be Facebook's metaverse, and thanks to them ruining the branding it won't be called the metaverse either.

They went to take over their competition and run it into the ground…or just extract as much from the company as possible to send back to Zuck
