Paddle lag in 7800+

/img/9gu45tjhahbe1.jpeg

Just hooked up the 7800+ tried to play Kaboom! — my all time fav and ssdly it is unplayable because of the paddle lag. :(

They've been actively working on firmware updates, be sure to follow along here:

Is there a "game mode" on your TV? I was having the same paddle lag issues with my 2600+, but was able to fix it by tweaking some settings. On my LG, I found a setting which turned on "low latency mode." However...i think an original Atari with a CRT is still slightly more responsive.

There is. Tried it. Didn’t notice a difference. I guess I’ll play my paddle games upstairs on my vcs/crt

There is a firmware update, I found it in this subreddit. It’s fairly simple and makes Kaboom playable. I did have to get ORIGINAL paddles, the new ones I got from Atari were too stiff still.

Game mode made a huge difference for me with Space invaders.

Until I put on game mode, the bullets were invisible.

Can confirm. Paddle games are miserable on the 7800+ and 2600+.  Kaboom is still great on original hardware.  The only modern hardware that works well is a MisterFPGA with a spinner.
