What if Atari created a VCS Go ?

Let's imagine for a moment that a VCS 2 is something that is actually going to be produced by Atari in the future ( big if true ). What if instead of releasing another console Atari made a handheld similar to the newly announced Gamestation Go but also included the Atari OS and the VCS digital store in it ( plus the PC mode option ) ?

Honestly this feels like an idea that could turn into a massive success if executed correctly, The Switch 2 is supposedly going to be on par with the PS4 Pro hardware wise, if the VCS GO was at least on par with the Steam Deck I think that would be enough to intice a lot of people into buying one ( even more so if it had the same power has the ROG Ally ).

honestly, I doubt if I would be interested. I can not picture Atari Inc entering modern gaming as a solid player. I doubt if they could even get a cohesive team together. I'm fine with the retro releases as long as they remain true to the original titles.

I mean I could see them positioning themselves as the ultimate retro game system. They have Night Dive and Digital Eclipse serving as their two main game studios, they have partnerships with many talented indie game developers ( Graphite Lab, Orbit Studio, Sneakybox, Pixel Games, Wayforward etc ) and they also have big partnerships with all the other major retro players ( MyArcade, Evercade, Polymega, Antstream ) I can definitely see them carving out a nice chunk of the retro game market all for themselves ( and for people that would want to play more modern games PC mode would be there to satisfy that audience ).

They could do it. Something like a Windows handheld (Legion Go, ROG Ally) would definitely be a purchase from me.

I can't see what they'd bring to the table that isn't already out there. For instance I have a hacked Vita that covers my retro emulation needs plus a decent library itself. There are also many retro-centric handhelds available at different price points, plus some high end portable PCs. They might find a niche market, but it's hard to imagine them finding true success with a portable console at this point.
