Definitely looks fake. Prety sure the back of the box should say Apple mag safe charger not just mag safe charger
13
u/coupsuper Jul 25 '22
Yea it’s definetly fake. Just searched it up and there should be an Apple logo on the front of the box above mag safe charger
33
u/IceWtr_YT Jul 25 '22
there's no apple logo above the "MagSafe charger" text, which means it's fake, as on legit charger boxes there's an apple logo above the "MagSafe charger" text. also, the resolution of the product image on that box is way too low to be real
6
u/Mahaleck Jul 25 '22
There’s literally no apple logo or mention of apple anywhere on it lol. Definitely fake
4
u/weird_little_idiot Jul 25 '22
If it's a mag safe charger and doesn't have apple logos or text is it actually fake then?
2
u/IceWtr_YT Jul 25 '22
if the BOX does not have the apple logo on them, its most likely fake
0
u/weird_little_idiot Jul 25 '22
Yeah I know that it's not apple product but is it actually saying somewhere that it is?
1
u/IceWtr_YT Jul 26 '22
the box /product both have the exact same design as the official apple product, minus any mention of Apple and its devices
0
u/katelledee Jul 25 '22
That doesn’t necessarily make it a fake charger, it just makes it not an apple charger.
1
u/IceWtr_YT Jul 26 '22
but in this case, OP was talking about their Magsafe charger that clearly looks like apple's Magsafe charger, but has no mention of apple anywhere on the box. If you compare it with an actual Magsafe charger box, the front would have an apple logo and would mention compatible devices. If this was from a different charger from another company, like Belkin, then still it would mention which apple devices are compatible.

To paraphrase from what someone else had said on this sub in these situation. If you have to ask, it might be fake.
I, surely, can’t confirm but buying from the Apple store gives a piece of mind if you’re having doubt.
2
u/Someone_Who_Succeds Jul 25 '22
Where did you get this/saw it? If you didn't see it from an official Apple store or authorized reseller, then it's most likely fake.

u/mwkingSD Jul 25 '22
I don't see an Apple logo anywhere - that's a dead giveaway that it's not Apple. That said, might work just fine. I have a bunch of non-Apple chargers, mostly better than the Apple ones.

I made same like you did and got fishy 20w charger. After some time found out it wasn't original. Then return and paid back.
Now i think, i won't buy any apple accessorioes other than apple store.

u/Koleckai Jul 25 '22
In my short experience on this planet (52 years), I have learned is that if you have to ask if something is fake or a scam then it probably is. Most humans can't be trusted.
2
u/wtflolkthxbai Jul 26 '22
it’s fake, there’s no apple logo on the top left above the “MagSafe Charger” text. The back also doesn’t have the sticker with the orange pull tab. If you show a photo of the bottom i’m sure there’s more inconsistencies there too.

u/hebic91655 Jul 25 '22
Hello, I am about to buy this charger from a secondhand seller. He claims that he bought this original, but
- the pricing is suspicious to me
- When he charges the phone, the magsafe charging logo doesn't appear.
Any of you can help me identify whether its fake or not
17
u/sammiemo Jul 25 '22
When he charges the phone, the magsafe charging logo doesn't appear
That answers your question.

In fairness, wireless charging is so inferior to cable charging it wouldn’t make a difference if it were actually a fridge magnet. So don’t be too sketched out, you wouldn’t have gotten anything good either way.
Edit; LMAO everybody who downvoted needs to Google something tonight.

Check the cable. Apple lightning cables have small print on them. I'm sure the magsafe chargers do as well.

can someone please explain to me how it's better than a lightning cable?
4
u/FishrNC Jul 25 '22
No wear and tear on the lightning port.
Able to cover the lightning port against moisture.
Slower charging is better for battery life.
But really works best when you put it on the puck when you go to bed and wake up to a fully charged phone.
1
Jul 25 '22
yeah but I'm never off my phone having to put it on a table for an hour sounds like torture
3
u/FishrNC Jul 25 '22
You sleep with it in your bed? The cordless charging is not satisfactory for a fast charge or while the phone is in use. It's best for charging overnight at home.
1
Jul 25 '22
aah ok so you still use lightning during the day? or you have one of these huge iphones that last a week
1
u/DudeThatsErin Jul 25 '22
I have a regular iPhone 11 (almost 3 years old at this point) and it still lasts me all day even with heavy use. Though I haven't gamed on my phone in 6+ months.
1
u/FishrNC Jul 25 '22
Well, if your battery is shot or you've got the screen on all the time, yeah, you use the lightning during the day. And if you're going to use lightning during the day, using cordless at night doesn't make sense.
But if a full charge lasts all day, cordless at night is the way to go. For all the reasons I stated earlier.
1
u/jondesu Jul 26 '22
You don’t have to put it down. I hold my phone while it’s magnetically connected to the MagSafe charger all the time.
1
u/mwkingSD Jul 25 '22
You can just lay it on the charger without having to plug a cable in. Frankly I'm still using a cable because it doesn't seem like much of an advantage.
0
Jul 25 '22
cause then you can't use it while it's charging right? You'd have to let it lay there or interrupt the charge... sounds like a nightmare
2
u/DudeThatsErin Jul 25 '22
With magsafe it is a magnet so you can use it while charging.
1
1
u/mwkingSD Jul 25 '22
Depends on what you mean by "use" - I imagine the phone would work on speaker or earbuds, or to browse websites. And with a cable you are constrained by the length of the cable, so not all that different.

Apple would never release something without their logo. No logo, no Apple. Obviously a fake could slap the logo on it, but your chances of the real thing are much higher.

What is up with so many people asking for legit checks like this is a shoe Reddit. Buy from a retailer its $30 LOL
1
u/Belly_Flop_Drop Jul 25 '22
I would send it back and ask for refund if it was me That’s why I only buy from apple direct or a authorized dealer they may be higher priced but you know you are getting an apple product.

u/DweEbLez0 Jul 25 '22
It’s probably a legit MagSafe Charger but doesn’t look like a legit Apple MagSafe Charger

Totally fake. If you bought it new or like new outside of a regular well-known retailer, 99.9% chance it’s fake. Even if it’s full price and has logos.
1
Jul 25 '22
Nope, it’s fake. Original has Apple logo in the top left corner and below that the words Magsafe Charger. Both in black.

No Apple logo, it’s priced in RMB China dollars. No thanks. I don’t want my apartment burnt down when this overheats.

u/Maximum_Employer5580 Jul 26 '22
I'd avoid that like the plague. Just saying 'Mag Safe Charger' means nothing....I've seen plenty of 3rd party product similar to this, and tried one or two of them, only to find out they are complete and utter trash. I don't even trust some Anker products and they're one of the more reputable companies you can buy from, I quit using their Qi pads for my iPhone because it dragged in charging. I knew it wasn't 'fast charge' but when it took 5-6 hrs to charge my phone, I realized it wasn't worth using and I could live with just plugging it up as necessary to the actual Apple cable it came with. Even the Anker lightning cables aren't as legit as they make them out to be - I have one that is an extended length cord and if I plug it up to my iPhone, it will regularly give me an error that the lightning port has moisture yada yada yada, plug it up to the actual Apple cable and it works fine.

u/matttumolo1234 Jul 26 '22
They’re just good for overnight charging because they don’t wear out your battery like leaving it on the charger after it’s fully charged does. Or waiting for it to drain before u plug it in. That’s really what they’re meant for. Def not meant to give u enough juice after you battery died to turn your phone back on! Not unless u have a few hours to spare 😂

It is not. First thing I noticed is that the front of the Official box has the Apple logo in the top left corner, and then on the back the official one says Apple followed by their address in the bottom left corner.
It’s a good fake, they just avoided using the original company’s name and logo, but stole the rest of their box art.

Alamak.. dude, a quick Googling will show you the original one is just RM80 more. RM99 is expensive for a fake. If you need a cheaper option, RM90 would already get you a decent one from Ugreen.
