yeah this is what has confused me so much about this watch... when I upgrade I always get the larger sized SS variant of the watch but like for literally no more money I get something that (while larger) is better in almost every aspect.

I got excited during the keynote since seeing the price of this had me thinking they lowered the cost of the SS variant to keep things segmented. Hell this is cheaper than the last titanium Apple Watch they sold... like make it make sense.

The markup must be huge on the SS variants especially compared to the ultra.

Idk how they do it. Like, there’s no cost cutting in the Ultra. It’s just straight up better in every way (assuming your personal tastes on the size and appearance aren’t against it) than the S8. Do they want the adoption rate on the Ultra to be huge or something? Because they got me. I think for $849 I’d be out.

It’s probably a lower margin than the SS or old Titanium, but no one bought those. I always did SS or Titanium, and can count on 1 hand how many other people I have seen with one.

It’s basically selling 1,000 units at 30% is still way better than 5 at 50% margin.

Yeah its confusing, like this is clearly not cost cut in any way but its still the same price as the less capable s8 ss. Just a very odd choice.

I ended up ordering the Ultra and I guess well see if I end up liking it enough or not. My s6 is still good and this was my watch upgrade year but feel like getting the s8 isn't worth it at the same price...so I guess they got me.

They’re going after the Garmin Fenix which runs for about the same price

yeah I get the pricing of the ultra and thats not in question — Im questioning why the stainless steel version of the s8 45mm is the same price since it should be cheaper.

That I don’t know, but you raise a valid point
