I have a question
Ok so I was peeing and then I had the thought, do animals associate drinking/consuming water with peeing? Do you think they know that if they drink water, that means they will pee later?? Do they have any awareness of the digestive system? Just a thought …

Unforseen use for outdoor cat shelter.
So, my neighbors have an indoor/outdoor cat. I don't approve, but she's not my cat. Anyway, when it started getting cold, I decided get one of those Styrofoam cooler shelters full of straw in case there's a cold snap, and they're not home to let her in. You know, just as an emergency shelter?
Anyway, fortunately they are keeping her indoors for winter. But, we recently had a snow and a thin layer was on my covered porch. I noticed little bird tracks going from my porch to the shelter.
No, I don't think they're nesting in there, but I DO think they're taking the straw for bedding. I love that.

I don't hear about glemuts enough.
I almost never hear people talking about the glemut. A glemut, if you don't know, is a creature native to the North American woodlands. Their homes have been getting destroyed by deforestation for decades. Glemuts are not endangered by any means as they are highly adaptable, but if we keep destroying their home we might see an inflation of glemut sightings in neighborhoods and communities. I have had a few encounters with glemuts and let me tell you. They NEVER end well. Glemuts are known to let out a deafening shriek that calls other glemuts. If you encounter more than one glemut you are almost never coming home. Glemuts are highly aggressive and territorial creatures who will fight for their kind. This is why we must keep their natural habitat from getting destroyed. I hope we can all save the glemuts home! Together!

What are some of y'all's favourite animals that get a bad or unfair rap?
Hi there, first post in this community.
I'm an armchair entomologist, so I'm more than used to people calling the creepy-crawlies I find cute "gross" or "creepy" lol. Recently though, I've discovered a lot of mammals I really love get a bad rap.
Moles look like little furry potatoes--sure they dig stuff up, but it's all they know! Bats? Not creepy hellspawn, sky pups who eat mosquitoes! I feel like it's unfair that "donkey" or even "ass" has come to mean "a stupid or unpleasant person" when they have so much to offer--they have best friends for life! They can guard other livestock! And those ears!
Anyway, rant over...anyone else have animals they love but other people think are weird, bothersome, or otherwise just not appreciated like they should be?

Tundra Swans
galleryHad the opportunity to see some Tundra Swans. My current wildlife lense wasn't quite good enough to reach that far out, though. But seeing these guys was really neat. There were a few hundred of them, and I found out that they over winter around Virginia

Volunteering
ease be kind because my intentions are genuine. We lost our shepherd in July to lymphoma and I decided to donate baskets to the 2 local animal shelters in his honor. While there I also offered my time to do photos (I run a small photography business) for free of the pets in hopes of helping get the pups homes! I met the pups and of course some tears flowed, but I reminded myself although I wish all the dogs had homes - they do have warmth, food, fresh water and medicine if they get sick. Anyway after see how happy some of the wiggle butts were to have interaction I decided to volunteer. You have to go through the meeting first so I signed up. When I got home and I told my bf and he said he doesn’t think I can handle it. Of course that upset me, but with further discussion I think his intentions are good and I am an extremely sensitive person and very much still struggle with the loss of our boy. Now I can’t sleep because I am second guessing. Usually outsiders say try it if it’s too much don’t go - well the LAST thing I want to do is waste there time and give false hope of a helping hand… i don’t know what to do :( I will say it is a no kill shelter, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be sad times and I fear that may trigger bigger issues for me and my mental health as I was put on an antidepressant and PRN Xanax since our dog passed. I also took a leave from work. I know it can be so rewarding and I would love nothing more than to snuggle those

Neglect of the mother cow.
gallerySaw this cow at our veranda today, felt as if it was crying and asking for food. And is pregnant most probably. Or I don't know how it's stomach is such swollen. Have been beaten rashly , one of its horn broken and skin been affected the other side. Is malnourished too.
Felt very bad, but there wasn't much I could do other than feeding it, was eating whatever you gave her, the amount really signified the hunger she was enduring.
She has been abandoned upon illness, and left to die. The same cow would have been fed enormously to take advantage of her milk.
I want to something for her, any suggestions? I don't have a good NGO in the place I live.

Survey for college
I apologise if this isn’t allowed. I am currently on an animal course at college, and one of our assignments is a 3000 word essay. For this we need to send out a survey, and gather information. I would appreciate anyone who can fill this out. Thanks in advance!!

Tips on deterring racoons
I work at a few sites where racoons are present. Personally, I’m not so fond of racoons as some other people are. In other words, when I see one, I shit my pants. I’m trying to figure out ways to keep them away while I’m working. Does the pungent smell of cayenne pepper work well? How far will it keep them away? Any other tips?

How come there are no black cheetahs?
There are black lion, jaguars, tigers, leopards hell even black snow leaopards but there are no black cheetahs? What causes all these other felines to have the mutation that the cheetah lacks? There have been reports around 1920-1940 but based on the description it just seemed like a king cheetah which just has bigger black spots and a black stripes on the back and sides. There was even a search for one in 2020 that had no results. So why is a melanistic cheetah so rare.
