Weasel? 🦦 🦡 MUSTELID: WEASEL/MARTEN/BADGER 🦡 🦦

Location: woodlands 15 minutes west of Madison, WI. Notice black tip tail.

Yes, either long-tailed or short-tailed weasel. Looks like both species have similar tail lengths in WI so without a definite size measurement or color video I can't tell which.

Here's a long-tailed weasel in WI and a short-tailed weasel (both deceased but no blood or gore).

In my experience in that area, short-tails are far more common than long-tails. I've done small mammal trapping nearby and while we caught maybe 10 short-tails total we found no long-tails.

If you ever catch a LTW there ask him why he can't have the distinctive coloration of his relatives further west, it would make my job so much easier 😔
