Lynx Rufus or locally known as the Bobcat, because of its distinct bobbed tail.
Edit: Bobcats also have brownish fur, where their northern cousins Lynx Canadensis, and european cousins Lynx Lynx have grey fur. The Iberian Lynx Lynx Pardinus has more reddish fur and is nearly extinct.

Right?! We saw it much closer at first, and it was so cute!! My kids we're soooo excited to see it! I was calling it a Bobcat, so I had to make sure. We have been lucky with seeing deer & coyotes here as well.

No, I don't think so. We are a good distance from the fires. We use this road frequently & see lots of wildlife here. We just have never seen one of these little guys before.

You and your kids ‘spotted’ it? I am impressed! Who held it down and who had the paint brush.
As others have said. Looks like a bobcat (I am not sure I can tell a lynx from a bobcat and call them the same)

They are from the same family
https://a-z-animals.com/animals/comparison/bobcat-vs-lynx/
From a taxonomical perspective, the lynx is a genus of wild cats that includes four species: the Canadian lynx, the Iberian lynx, the Eurasian lynx, and the bobcat.
The Canada lynx is mostly found in the boreal woods of Canada and Alaska, while the bobcat is widespread over southern Canada, the United States, and northern Mexico.
The geographical range is always the most obvious giveaway of whether it’s a bobcat or a lynx. Except for a few overlapping places, the bobcat is the only member of the lynx genus found in the United States and Mexico.
The lynx’s fur color tends to vary quite a bit between gray, yellow, tan, and brown, depending on the season. But the bobcat usually features a brown coat of fur with darker black spots and a black-banded tail.
Bobcats are slightly smaller than lynx and don’t have fur on the bottom of their feet. So let’s check those beans Robert Kitty…

Should be a bobcat, aka Lynx rufus (how do I set italics in this app?)
FWIW, bobcats ARE one of the four lynx species, and can legitimately be called a type of lynx, just for some reason we didn't dub them "southern small-ish lynx of North America".. probably because "bobcat" rolls off the tongue better.
His formal name also should be Lynx robert, but that's just me wishing for it I guess.
