Awesome ringtail sighting! Theyāre pretty shy.

u/DaM00s13 Oct 07 '23
They arenāt at all shy. They are famously called miners cats because they would interact with miners around the camp fire and basically become pets.

If there are any ringtails reading this, come into my house I will feed you and take care of you they're so cute
18
u/DaM00s13 Oct 07 '23
Just camp near cliffs in the same spot for like a week and they will hop in your lap

u/dadsrad40 Oct 07 '23
I had one that used to hang out in the deer stand with me while I was hunting. Iād bring it snacks, like peanuts and granola and it would just chill on the floor next to me lol. Pooped everywhere tho, so that was a little off putting

u/DaM00s13 Oct 07 '23
I had a group of them visit the wall next to our camp at havasupi. There were eating giant Dobson flies. Super fucking cool

What's with that awful noise/music?
69
u/lIllIllIllIllIllIII Oct 07 '23
Went back and unmuted and that is not what I expected. What the hell lol
81
u/Garnet0908 Oct 07 '23
I unmuted it because of you guys and I canāt stop laughing. What in the Salad Fingers background music hell is this? š
26
u/SimonDanziger Oct 07 '23
Salad fingers, now that's a name I have not heard in a long time.
17
u/Garnet0908 Oct 07 '23
I hadnāt thought about it in a long time until I heard this creepy music. And that was definitely on purpose.

š¤£šš¤£ Your so right! I was literally playing the Salad Fingers video for coworkers 5 days ago! They needed to know about the rusty spoons!

u/Zestyclose_Foot_134 Oct 07 '23
Yeah I thought it was going to be some annoying TikTok song not Cinema of the Unsettling from the Office š

u/RenaissanceStruggle8 Oct 07 '23
This music is fucking stupid.
4
u/Easy_Arm_1987 Oct 07 '23
The music is driving the Ringtail crazy, and looking for the exit to get the hell out of there ... LOL

Very shy little ringtail, aka āMinerās Catā. Theyāre good at ridding the neighborhood of rodents and insects, and the old time miners loved āem for those very reasons! In my 62 years of outdoorās Arizona adventures, Iāve only seen one in the wild. Great shots of a very camera shy little guy!

Lived in zion for a while as a worker, one of my neighbors in the dorm had one get into his room one night and steal a whole loaf of bread and a package of graham crackers lol

They are not shy. Little fuckers are adorable and mischievous. I came down from a climb in Vegas once to find that my friends had let a ringtail carry one of my shoes 50ft while they watched laughed and took pictures of it.

u/DaM00s13 Oct 07 '23
No they arenāt. They are called miners cats because of how readily they would become pets and live in minerās campsites eating mice.

A ringtail!! I saw one once as a kid in the middle of the night in the desert faaar away from peopleāas others have already said, they are typically quite people-shy so this is a rare find indeed.

I was thinking one of those shows that used to come on Saturday afternoons. The ones where they would show cheesy 50's science fiction movies.

Ringtail. Related to racoons.
