"Allan"

"Allan" has been a commonly suggested answer but I can't for the life of me figure out how that second "a" could be read as an "a" I think in context it's an option to fill in the mystery but pulling that letter out by itself doesn't look like any "a" I know

u/demon_fae Jul 17 '24
It’s small caps. Both As are capital letters, the second is just smaller, reduced to a narrow triangle by the limitations of the medium. Honestly the N is worse by far

1
u/AlienGaze Jul 17 '24
I thought the same, but then wondered why the second A doesn’t have the triangular white space at the bottom of the letter like the first one does
3
u/demon_fae Jul 17 '24
No room. Rubber bands don’t really have a lot of image resolution, it would become a little rubber triangle at best, which isn’t allowed in silly bands

This was my thought. Maybe San Francisco. Transamerica building on the left, Golden Gate Bridge across the foreground?

u/CodyGriz Jul 17 '24
I would go this direction too except for the bumps on the bottom.. normally skylines are depicted with a flat bottom so I'm not sure this is the right answer
2
u/Iron5nake Jul 17 '24
It's totally the Eiffel Tower, Twin Towers, Tower of Pisa and the Arc de Triomphe. /s

It looks like a camel without legs.
Or, what I actually look at it and focus. It looks like a desert setting with two train tunnels a few taller mountains/peaks and a mesa. If you look at it from left to right. 1-5 on the bumps.
- A tunnel going into a mountain.
2-3 Taller peaks
Mesa
Small hill with train tunnel.

Idk what u think a camel is...
2
u/CynicalCannibal Jul 17 '24
I said a camel without legs.. lol, a quick glance. i just saw the head and humps. So sue me. I was also high when I first saw it, too.
4
u/MsBuzzkillington83 Jul 17 '24
Like a double camel without legs ;)

Microscope?
24
u/CodyGriz Jul 17 '24
Microscope is probably the most common guess I've seen in every convo but I've never seen a Microscope that looks like this. Like if you look at a microscope silhouette and then look at this it's just not slapping for me
25
u/RiceCaspar Jul 17 '24
My first thought was a cityscape.
2nd thought was it has Kokopelli energy but I think that's just its linear, abstract nature.
4
u/SillyWhabbit Jul 17 '24
I just don't see Kokopelli
6
u/RiceCaspar Jul 17 '24 edited Jul 17 '24
The ones on the left. They look like a headed figure with his arms and legs out, which is what was reminiscent of it for me.
Edit to add: the one with the parasaurolophus head shape reminded me of the way Kokopelli hair fans out, or alternatively, someone kneeling.
This isn't to say I actually think it's a Kokopelli, just that it reminded me of Kokopelli, which I hadn't thought about in a long time.

Eiffel Tower, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Washington Monument (or Burj Khalifa?), Taj Mahal, and… I don’t know about the last bit.

u/NuggetWarrior09 Jul 17 '24
Omfg I didn’t even notice that the first pillar was leaning a bit, there is no fucking way that’s a coincidence I think you’re right 💀

u/CodyGriz this one seems plausible. And GingerSnapsPeas’ suggestion of Stonehenge for the last one also might be the one.
2
u/lolihull Jul 17 '24
Stonehenge doesn't really work for me - it doesn't look like the stones and besides, they're more of an ancient monument than a building like the others (if this concept is the right answer anyway).
1
u/HeartsPlayer721 Jul 17 '24
I don’t know about the last bit.
Reminds me a bit of Rainbow Bridge, but why throw in a natural National Monument with all those man made ones?

u/DarkAndSparkly Jul 17 '24
If you don't get an answer here, you can also ask on r/whatismycookiecutter - they're really good at figuring these out!

u/noobfl Jul 17 '24
even if it looks like the Snake Road in F-Zero x, its probably Paris (not to scale)
from left to right
the Eifel Towker (Tirangle)
Notre Damme (the two Towers)
Sacré-Coeur de Montmatre
Arc de Triomphe
4
u/NuggetWarrior09 Jul 17 '24
Someone else said the leaning tower of Pisa on the second pillar, and it actually is leaning a little bit in the images so I think it’s that
4
u/noobfl Jul 17 '24
but the other buildings? the leaning also just can be doe to temperature changes or expanding if its worn as a bracelet. i think paris because of the two arches on the underside - that would fit the eifel tower and the arc
2
u/turkeypants Jul 17 '24
I don't think it would make as much sense to mix buildings from different skylines. I think it's bent because it's a rubber band doing a very hazy job of everything it's doing. And because it's a rubber band.
5
5
u/turkeypants Jul 17 '24
I feel like this is the best one. The slant on the Eiffel is the giveaway to get it started and the others then fall into place.

u/Lil-Wachika Jul 17 '24
I tried searching via Google lens and it recognized the text as "Allan", try running it through google lens but my guess is it's from a name pack.

(Edit: corrected the name. It was Zany Bandz, not Wacky Bandz. It’s been 15 yrs since I’ve thought about this, lol.)
I know this! I worked for a short time for a company that quickly shifted to making knock-off Silly Bands (to capitalize on the hype) called Zany Bandz. We did names, and other words. Our manufacturing in china was never as good and “clear” as the real ones, but we designed them, and they made them and shipped them for like $0.03 a pack. It didn’t last long and we were left with a LOT of unsold stock.
Anyway, it’s most definitely Allan, but the second a is a short capital “A”. It totally looks like one of ours, and it would make sense if you got it at a discount store.
Thanks for posting this! This was a nice trip down memory lane. There was a LOT of recreation herb use at that office!
16
u/CodyGriz Jul 17 '24
YO! If you're for real this is MAJOR. Do you have any pics or old screenshots or anything bu any chance? It's so hard for me to see that second a as an "a" but I'd have to believe you if this is true!
16
u/JeffTrav Jul 17 '24
If I recall correctly, internal “a”s couldn’t be lower case because you couldn’t distinguish them from “o”s.
I might possibly have some files on an old computer in my basement, but it was a long time ago. I’ll check tomorrow to see if any of them boot up.
0
u/lolihull Jul 17 '24
But then surely all the other letters would be capitals as well. And that small A doesn't have a gap at the bottom like the large A, and it's sort of stepped at the top 🤔 hmmm I feel stumped
5
u/JeffTrav Jul 17 '24
It’s not well done, obviously. But it’s 100% Allan. Zoom in on the pic linked below, and you can see that some are just as illegible.
2
u/lolihull Jul 17 '24
In that pic though, lowercase letters are written as smaller capitals so you can see names which have "n" written as "N". But in the OP here it looks more like an n. I'm happy to be wrong btw, just not sure that the "an" at the end of Allan look right.

The skyline of San Francisco? The triangular shape could be the Transamerica Pyramid.

I asked chatgpt and it said that it reads "Alvin".
Here is the explanation:
The shape of the Silly Band resembles the individual letters "A," "L," "V," "I," and "N" when viewed in sequence. Here’s a breakdown of the reasoning:
- The first large loop on the left resembles the letter "A."
- The next straight section resembles the letter "L."
- The next part with two peaks looks like the letter "V."
- The following loop looks like the letter "I."
- The final shape resembles the letter "N."
When these shapes are viewed together, they spell out "Alvin."

A mouth? Like a spooky ghouls mouth from a scooby doo cartoon. Especially when you squint at the black line drawing of it

I'm leaning towards rock formations and caves. So could be from a tourist trap or a state park like Red Rock Canyon.

It kind of looks like some of the rock formations and their silhouettes in Moab! I tried to find the matching one, but no luck on my brief search.

It’s a JEEP with no wheels! The bumpy part on the far right is the hood, then the man/woman driving, then the roll bar, then the back seat, then the back bumper/roll bar. Convertible style. The little half circles on the bottom are the wheels! Weeee!

Could it be "Allen"? Or even "Allan" and the second a is a small cursive a?

I found this in 2010 in a bin of loose SillyBands (or Crazy Bands or whatever other off brands exist) at an Ollie's Outlet.
It has plagued me for years and sparked multiple head scratching conversations with friends. I attempted to ask here in the past but my post was removed for some reason.
Multiple times people have suggested Microscope, but although it's similar no microscope actually looks like this silhouette and none of the microscope bands made look like this one.
The struggle is that the abstraction of this item could mean it is just about anything..
Please help.
Attached are every rotation permutations to maybe help
