OTHER My DIY Birkenstock Repair

Thumbnail gallery
770 Upvotes

While camping in Canada, I left my birks just outside my tent, in the morning I found something had chewed off a strap!

These were not that old so I didn't want to just chuck them, and instead tried a bit of leatherwork.

I tried to find a matching colour, but the two tone has grown on me since.

It has held up well for 2 months now of daily wear!

So my original post on making earcup covers went like fire and I noticed that was 5 years ago. Here's the new version I made. These are removable for washing (and on a newer headset that also flaked)

Definitely not perfect but good enough. I hate replacing things before theyā€™re outgrown!

A drill and some lightweight wire helped me fix up this plastic rolling cart! Quick and dirty fix, but it feels like itā€™ll hold up well. :)

OTHER I hope this is ok! Our dog ripped our cushion cover and I finally found the perfect fabric to make a cover.

So this couch was a wedding gift and the nicest thing in our house šŸ«  our anxious dog had a field day with it one day we were out. We tried to contact the store and an upholsterer. The store wouldnā€™t replace it and both said it would be impossible to match the leather exactly. I thought I probably wouldnā€™t be able to make a new leather cover either because I have a very beginner machine. We kinda gave up for a while and were just covering the couch with a blanket when I finally came across the perfect remnant fabric for a visible mend-esque solution! This is my first home decor project and Iā€™m really satisfied with how it turned out.

I got this carrier as a hand me down with my first born, it was used for two babies before mine. I've got my second on the way and decided this thing needed a little love as it was looking a little worse for wear.

The edges of my fingerless gloves were coming apart so Iā€™m crocheting around the edges to reinforce them. Still gotta do the rest of them, and weave in my ends. šŸ¤

OTHER IKEA stool

Is this what this sub is about? The bits of plastic that attach the seat on this stool broke, so I replaced them with wood (a peg glued into a hole in another piece) and added a cross on the bottom to stop it wobbling. Those bits of oak on the 4 ends of the cross-pieces give it a bit of extra strength, since the softwood started splitting. Quite proud of it!

OTHER fixing my ancient laundry basket (work in progress)

Thumbnail gallery
184 Upvotes

this was my parentsā€™ laundry basket that i took with me when i moved out nearly a decade ago. the handles snapped off years before i even took it with me, and itā€™s been slowly acquiring more and more cracks, but i didnā€™t want to toss it when it was still usable.

i used a candle and a large needle i didnā€™t care about and heated up the needle in the candle flame and poked some holes around the cracks (see pic 4) and then sewed it up tightly with some thread. i had to stop every few pokes and heat up the needle to wipe off the excess plastic, but it worked pretty well otherwise. if you swipe to the end you can see iā€™ve still got a bunch of cracks to mend, but i have a bad back and can only work for so long without it complaining šŸ˜…

iā€™m not much of a sewist and this is the first time iā€™ve attempted something like this so if you have any recommendations for things to change when fixing the rest of the problems iā€™m happy to hear them!

I posted a few weeks ago after my dog mistook a new eevee plush as a toy for his joy. I was bummed, but this community came up with some cute ideas to fix it. My execution is not perfect, and thereā€™s some staining from dirt, but I think it turned out pretty okay. Thank you for all of your help!

My kid uses the side seam "tagged" on his shirts as comfort items. Won't wear shirts with no tags. So I added a ribbon tag to make this cute Yellowstone shirt wearable for him.

The verdict: "I like my new ribbon taggie, mama!

I did the other side, too. Itā€™s nice to not have it snag on things like door handles as easily anymore, and I managed to weave in most of the ends
