ADVICE My car is being tracked

Hi there folks, I have a question, purchased a used car back in 2024 in Colorado, and very often when I start driving this one, the previous owner call me or send me messages regarding anything, paperwork, if everything is OK and so, so past saturday usually I don't drive however I did I went to pick up something and when I was in the freeway this guy call me, I never pick up the phone and I have blocked his whatsapp and messages, so my genuine question is, how do I find this tracker device or what can I do?

I found a piece of antenna inside, I just took it off

ADVICE 2018 Nissan pathfinder cvt issue?

Just bought this used a couple weeks ago but got snowed in all of last week so just getting g around to driving it more.

The check engine light came on and it sticks in neutral after reversing out of my parking spot. Seems like CVT issue? Any advice? I’m pretty pissed because I just got the car 2 weeks ago.

Looks like there was a class action lawsuit a couple years ago but idk if I qualify since i didn’t own the vehicle when you had to opt in.

I’m in Virginia if that helps at all.

Unleaded or premium for 2014 lexus is250

So i have a question. I know that Is250 requires premium fuel. but.i have also seen people say that if u start putting unleaded fuel, the computer is gonna adjust to that fuel over time even though the performance is gonna be a bit down.

My question is, is it true? also putting unleaded do any major harm to the car mechanically?

if there is anyone whos been putting unleaded instead of premium, I would love to know your experience too..

Purchased used Caddilac 2016 CT6 88k miles...Need Advice

I purchased a used CPO 2016 Caddilac CT6 88K miles and clean carfax out of my home state. I was going to take it to the dealership for a multipoint inspection but a friend of mine to me it's better to take it to a independent ASE certified mechanic. Should I go dealer or independent mechanic?

Which would be better?

I'm looking for 3rd row suv with awd. I think I've settled on 2. Both are at brand backed dealerships.

2017 Ford Expedition EL limited just under 250k kms. Has had several k of repairs done recently and looks good.

2017 buick enclave leather awd. Just under 230k km. Also looks really good, and has had recent work done.

I had test driven some 2015 acadias with kms from 180-215. The one with lower kms needed thousands in work. It had a leaking strut and was creaking like crazy, the other one already had the work done, but both had rusted bubbling hoods.

I like the idea of the Expedition and extra cargo space which would definitely be used as we live in a rural location, so do large grocery/supply trips , but am a bit concerned about potential higher repair costs should anything go wrong. It recently had several thousand in repairs. Small thing it doesn't have is a heated steering wheel like the buick. May not be a big thing other places but when it's -40 Celsius it's a really nice thing.

Jd ranks the enclave as about 5 points higher in reliability.

The Expedition is almost 3k more.

Thoughts?

ADVICE Toyota Tacoma

I’m looking at buying a used 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport Voodoo Blue. I currently living in California and moving to Wyoming. I’m looking for a 4x4 and other features and this truck fits the needs. Its price is $31,000 with 72k miles on it. It has 2 previous owners. I know Toyotas are reliable but is the price reasonable?

ADVICE what is the best option to get rid of my car junk car buyer vs Market place Vs scrap yard?

I have 2007 ford freestyle. Not in the best condition anymore. 2 oil leaks I think, sort-of loud not sure if muffle or something else is making the noise- sounds like more from under the middle of the car. Back windshield wiper does not work seats do have some staining, mild paint chips. just found out it needs a new battery also. other wise everything else is in good shape (i know that doesn't leave much left in good shape LOL) . I loved this car but came into a good deal for a Branco. anyway, I know I would not get a lot for this car. but I would like to get something obviously. What is the best option? If I go through an online junk car place, which one is most reliable? I have heard mixed things about all of them. Or, would I have any lunch selling it on FB market place in hopes a mechanic might want to buy it and fix it up?

Selling to a cash for clunker type business. Is this situation shady?

I’m selling a non running utility van to a company I found on a flyer… after contacting them we negotiated a price and they said they’ll use Venmo.. they also wanted me to leave the title and keys in the car once payment came through… this sounds shady but my question is, what do you risk not having the buying sign the title? Also, how can they scam me through Venmo? Thank you in advance!

Buying Am I unreasonable?

I have been on the hunt for a used car for about a month now, ever since mine was totaled. It wasn’t worth much to begin with so I didn’t receive a lot from insurance, but I’m trying to use that money plus what I had saved up to replace my car without needing to take out a loan or finance anything. That all being said, it seems as though it’s impossible to find anything that is worth the value of the car. I get that dealerships need to make a profit, but this seems beyond that. My budget is sitting around $13k and I’m looking primarily at used Honda and Toyota (as everyone seemingly agrees those are the best ones to get). I don’t mind higher mileage, since they run for a long time and I don’t drive a ton anyway, but I am looking to stay under 160k.

My problem is that when I look at cars in my area they all seems to be prices several thousand above the value of the car, and they’re not in prime condition to be at full KBB or JD value anyway. Am I crazy to think that I’ll find one at a reasonable price or should I just bite the bullet and buy something at a higher price?

Notes: I really want to stay in that price range, I am not replacing my car by choice and I can’t really afford a payment. Small body damage doesn’t bother me, as long as the price drops correspondingly. I try to research every car I look at before doing a test drive, so I find these numbers and can go to the dealership armed with them. I’ve also been told to try to stick to bigger dealerships, bc they are more likely to have good cars (the prior owners having traded in for a new model by choice, rather than selling their used car as a last resort to a small dealership)

Buying Why are half of used car listings a great deal and why are half a bad deal?

I’ve been looking at fb and offer up to buy a used car and I’m seeing cars 2-3000$ dollars under Kelley blue book that have loads of pictures and no red flags about the listing. Meanwhile I also find cars listed over the Kelley blue book. I’ve heard the rule too good to be true but I’ve also heard the market post Covid for used cars was extremely expensive compared to now. Should I go ahead and try to buy these good deals or do you think I’ll get robbed/killed/kidnapped?

Selling Help! How do I make the most cash from my totaled car?

A few months ago my car was t-boned. Wasn’t a major accident by any means but the frame is compromised and several air bags deployed so insurance deemed it a total loss. Mechanically, it’s in great condition, in fact it’s got a brand new transmission in it. She’s a great car but it’s unfortunately not worth it to get her repaired or keep around, and I could really use any and all money I could make from her.

2016 Ford Fiesta, manual transmission. Without accident damage, she’s KBB’d at around $7k. I’ve gotten a few offers from “Cash for Car” type places, between $400-$600. I feel I could definitely make more than that, but I’m not sure the best way. Should I make a facebook marketplace listing, and if so, how high can I reasonably price her at? Should I contact junk yards? I don’t have mechanical experience but is it possible for ME to strip her parts and sell those individually? I know I could make a pretty penny off something like the catalytic converter alone, just not sure how this kind of process goes and want the most out of it.

She’s been sitting in my driveway for a few months now and I could really use the money to put into my replacement vehicle. I want to get her gone ASAP. Help a girl out! Any advice is super appreciated, thank you in advance!

TLDR: how do I quickly make the most money from my totaled 2016 ford fiesta in perfect mechanical condition?

ADVICE is this a scam: 2022 Mazda CX-5 2.5 S Preferred, 81.3k miles for $19k?? certified pre owned

Though it is certified pre owned, I'm most worried about the mileage on the car, as it's only been 2 years and was used as a rental vehicle by its one owner. its last oil change according to carfax was at 14k miles, which does worry me. However, I will be getting a pre-purchase inspection by a mechanic. also, no accidents.

ADVICE Would love some opinions on these options!

So we are looking at two used minivans.

Opt A) 2019 ~100k miles -in state which is convenient. • Carfax history tells us they got oil changes as needed and a lot of info about the car. They basically went to the dealership for everything, which makes my husband really like this option

Opt B) 2020 ~60k miles -out of state but not a huge deal for the right car of course • Carfax just tells us that it passed safety inspections and that it has a ton of open recalls.

The cars are both Hondas, same trim, same price. I’m not sure, I’m leaning towards option B but the Carfax makes my husband lean towards option A. What do you guys think?

ADVICE Straight up lied .

Recently bought a car from a private party was told it was a lost title but the tags were on the way. Paid $2500for it (Honda Accord 2008) . This morning it was repo'd . The seller lied they had been tits up for 8 months and still owed over $3000 on it . What are my options, aside from making myself a felon. I'm not used to doing things legally but I feel I might have a good case.

ADVICE 2016 Subaru needs $10k transmission, what do we do?

My husband just changed jobs to one where he drives a lot, so he sold his truck and bought a 2016 Subaru with just over 100k miles. (AWD, roomy, off the ground features were important.) He’s put maybe 4k miles on it in the 4 months we’ve owned it. Last week he left home in it and less than a mile down the road the transmission started acting strange. He turned right around and parked it. Today we had it towed to the dealer, and the preliminary conversation with the mechanic (pre-diagnostics) is a “chain” or some other non-replaceable part and most likely will require a new transmission, probably around $10k. We just bought this car, paid cash $14k. I’m praying the diagnostics show something different…. But if this is the case, what do we do? 😭😭

Edited to add bought from a business that sells used imports, not an individual.

ADVICE Would this be a good buy?

So I’m a 17 year old I’m still in school and work full time but my current car (05 Pontiac vibe) is starting to show signs of a failing trans so I have been looking and found a 2008 Nissan Altima 3.5 se with 75k miles for right about 4500 but it’s a salvage title from a very minor accident. I’m just wondering if these cars are reliable and be worth my money haha thank you. Oh yeah I think the price is pretty normal compared to other altimas I looked at with similar year and mileage .

Selling Moving cross country and need advice

I have a Toyota tundra with about 200K miles on it. Second owner, great condition. I’m moving from Tennessee to the Bay Area where I will not need a car. I have a dog, so I’ll be making the move via car regardless. So my question is do I sell before I move and drive a uhaul or drive my truck and rent a trailer? It will save me money to just rent the trailer and not the whole truck, but I’m unfamiliar with selling in a different state or what market value or demand is state to state.
