2018 Nissan pathfinder cvt issue? ADVICE
Just bought this used a couple weeks ago but got snowed in all of last week so just getting g around to driving it more.
The check engine light came on and it sticks in neutral after reversing out of my parking spot. Seems like CVT issue? Any advice? I’m pretty pissed because I just got the car 2 weeks ago.
Looks like there was a class action lawsuit a couple years ago but idk if I qualify since i didn’t own the vehicle when you had to opt in.
I’m in Virginia if that helps at all.

I hope you bought the extended warranty...

It was used so there wasn’t an option for extended warranty. I do have a limited warranty for 3 months/3000 miles that would cover up to $3000 in repairs.

How many miles are on it? There are plenty of extended warranty companies out there and most decent used dealers are pushing something unless it's a high mileage vehicle. As you now know, Nissan has HUGE issues with their CVT and unfortunately they aren't repairable. If it's broken you replace it with another one for about $6k.
If you haven't put many miles on the vehicle you might try talking to the dealer and asking them to cover it or unwind the deal. They are under no obligation to do anything other than whats detailed in the paperwork you signed so I wouldn't recommend going in and raising hell - but some of them do try to do right by their customers.
If you get it fixed I'd advise getting the trans fluid changed every 30k miles and driving it easy.
Edit to add: Assuming this is a bad CVT because it's a Nissan and.. well.. if it's a Nissan it's always a bad CVT but you really don't know at this point. A dozen other things could cause this as well. Get it back there and let them diagnose the issue. If you get lucky and it's a smaller issue go ahead and get the fluid changed then stay on top of it during your ownership. Good luck!!!

Thank you for the thoughtful reply!
It has about 77k on it. I’ve put on less than 100 since buying it.
If it is the ctv our warranty will cover up to $3k so I guess it’ll be an expensive lesson but hopefully we can stay on top of maintenance and keep it going.
Called a dealership and they think it may also be an issue with the emergency braking system. Guess I’ll find out when I get it to a shop.

You’re most likely SOL unless you bought it with a warranty. I always recommend researching what you’re buying prior to as a quick google search can tell you how unreliable the 4th gen pathfinder is. Go get the light scanned and go from there. That light will tell you more than anyone here can.
